We scheduled brunch after an exhibit. It was a lot of fun especially the Bloody Mary and candy bars. Food was the exact amount and good. We left satisfied knowing we'd soon be taking a nap. We'll be back.

It was really nice and convenient to have lunch at the cafe before we saw a special exhibit at the DMA. It was helpful to have a reservation and we didn't have to wait in the line to get a table. The lunch menu is well balance and we were all able to find something we liked. The split pea and the tomato soups were terrific . I also had half a chicken sandwich that was delicious and very fresh. The service was a little bit slow but the staff were all very pleasant at the cafe.

The menu was limited, but our choices were well prepared. Surely we weren't seated in their main restaurant as it was just a large room with plastic chairs and tables. Our server wasn't around enough for us to ask him this. Interesting place to people watch

The service was not good. I believe there was one waiter for the whole place. The food was ok. No--I wouldn't go back to eat there. The museum exhibit of Jean Paul Gautier was spectacular. I would recommend that to anyone.

The real DMA restaurant is closed and you are now seated in the open cafe in plastic chairs. Service was horrible and we did not get the food that we ordered, basically mistakes made at all levels. This is not a real restaurant, it's more like a fast food restaurant that is not fast. I was told the real restaurant was closed 6 months ago, but those who make opentable reservations don't know until they show up.

  • DMA bad choice for Mother's Day
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 5/8/2011
We made reservations for Mother's Day brunch at 1:00. When we got there, the brunch turned out to be in the big atrium -which is more like a cafeteria - instead of the nice restaurant. In addition, there were probably 20 people in line ahead of us and all of them were for people who had reservations. We waited 5 minutes and never moved an inch. Finally, I tried to find the hostess, who eventually came running up to the check in desk. She said they were "doing the best they could" with the crowd and were trying to get tables cleared off as fast as they could. We waited a few more minutes, then went somewhere else. In short, this was a really bad choice for Mother's Day brunch.

I took my Mom here for Mother's Day brunch. The food was good, although the menu was fairly limited. The waiting staff was very friendly. I had a gentleman named Bernard that was great at making sure everything was taken care of. My only complaint (besides the limited selection) was the decor was pretty lackluster. I was expecting to be wowed by the atmosphere at the DMA, but found it to feel like they called a catering service and just set up a buffet table. The table decorations were almost non-existant, and for the price I was hoping it would be nicer. Still good food though, just a little pricey for the lack of ambiance.

This was a nice, casual place for a relaxing Mother's Day brunch; however, based upon the site description we expected a little bit more (in quality and variety) of the buffet offerings. It was also nice to be able to wander the museum; however, it appears that full access to the DMA was not included. Given the price of the brunch, it should have been. If it was included, they failed to let us know. All in all, the idea was right, but the execution and value proposition were lacking. Also, free garage parking (rather than $10) for brunch attendees would have been a nice perk to add to the package (which cost $45 per person).

I am so glad I decided to check out the DMA website for Easter brunch. We really enjoyed it. The meal and service were wonderful and it was the best kept secret for Easter brunch, which means you should advertise. This city is about eating and shopping and you have both plus members receive 10% discount. We are rejoining the DMA in part because of our Easter brunch experience. Thank you.

Had Easter brunch at the Atrium cafe. Food was very good with lots of variety. Many kid-friendly options as well. I will say the brunch was a little expensive, especially the children's price. Loved the bottomless mimosas, though! The ambiance felt a little stark. I suppose I was expecting more decorations or something more festive for Easter. Overall, a good experience and we would probably go back.

  • Wait for the Woodall Rogers Park
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 4/1/2011
Previous experiences with 1717 were more favorable than my last on April 1, 2011. The upstairs dining location closed and is now used for special events only and one is now served in the cafe area near the museum shop. I had the rib-eye sandwich and describe it as just OK. The vegetable chips were stale. The service was adequate. There was nothing exceptional about the meal or experience I understand that once the construction of the park over Woodall Rogers is complete that the dining experience of 1717 will have more ambiance and include al fresco dining. I will try it again once that feature is available to diners

The loss of 1777 and now only the Atrium is a big disappointment. This is for convenience eating only, poor menu, poor execution - the DMA deserves better.
