A word from Dakota's Steakhouse
What's better than a fine, aged wine? How about a fine, aged steakhouse that serves prime aged steaks. Where would one find such a unique combination? Located below the sidewalks of downtown Dallas at the 29 year Dallas icon, Dakota's Steakhouse.

Sit back and take in the many decorative nuances that make Dakota's still one of the most romantic spots in Dallas. Outside the restaurant, the multi-level waterfall, draping foliage and black granite patio bar make dining outdoors a delight. Inside the restaurant, the New Orleans lamps and imported marble floors neatly package the classic theme.

Had wanted to go here for a while and we were not disappointed. However we would like to try again when the patio is open to the fresh air and waterfall (way to hot in August for that) but the view was still nice. Our server Lauren was excellent, food was well presented and great tasting.

The food is ridiculously great! Beautiful candlelit seating, a little noisy, but not obnoxious. The only bad thing overall was the prices. It was worth it for the occasion, but be prepared for a check of $200 or more!

Very nice. Our waiter Renee' was very attentive and quick to fulfill any requests. The atmosphere was elegant and with a piano player in the background. Very clean. Food is top. Had the Calamari appetizer, then wife and I split 14oz Rib-eye, side of the wild mushrooms, and ordered the sea scallops for our son. Plenty. Nothing to complain about. Stayed at the Fairmont 100 yrds away. Yes took our nine year old son with us. Waiter was very attentive to him too. Not too expensive in my opinion. Other reviews complain about the price, or the food. Unfounded. Eat at a café if you want cheap food. Our tab was $190. Have dined at the best, Dakotas ranks in the top. Going back soon for a romantic evening, no kids. Great place for a dress-up nite.

I brought my team to Dakota's to celebrate meeting a business goal. The service was great, food was excellent (mac n cheese is to die for) and the waiters paced the evening very well from drink orders through the end of the meal. And they were very gracious when we showed up with 10 people instead of 9, as our reservation said. Would definitely recommend it!

Although the waitress was very friendly and talkative, she did not come back to check on us. We had to wait over 5 minutes to get pepper for the salad, had to ask one of the guys to refill our water glasses. The food was ok however, medium well should have a slight pink center not tough and dry. Music was great and the scenery itself wonderful.

Dakota's is one of my favorite restaurants when I visit downtown Dallas. The steak is dry aged and tastes incredible. The sides are fabulous. The appetizers are good and they have a good wine list. The waiters are friendly and attentive. I have dined alone and taken various sizes of groups there. Dakota's has an interesting history - they are below ground and you take an elevator to get there. Ask about the history. A definite "must dine here".

I have always wanted to go to Dakota's. I was finally able to make it during restaurant week this year and everything was excellent. The best meal we've ever had!! The setting was gorgeous. We were seated on the air conditioned patio next to the waterfall stairs. The staff was gracious and attentive. The food was out of this world. I had the pork chop and my date had the scallops. The wine was delicious and the calamari to start was divine. And they bring you a little basket of bread with olive oil and garlic mix so you are not sitting there starved! A must for any special occasion.

Went for restaurant week. The waiter seemed put-out that we asked for the special menu. Crab cake was fishy, salad dressing on the Caesar was bland and tasted like mayo, the tenderloin was delicious and cooked perfectly, potatoes were bland and the creme brûlée was very runny. Waiter didn't send for the valet as promised. Disappointing overall.

Went for dinner with my wife on a Friday. Lots of convention attendees everywhere. The table we got was so annoying I switched seats with my wife who couldn't stand it either. There is a mirror at eye level on one wall that is very distracting as it's only about a foot high. Very annoying if you get the seat and get to watch yourself eat. Calamari appetizer was good, wine was good, salad was good. Pork chop was absolutely horrific. Way, way over cooked and tasted like a salt lick. I like salt but this tasted like someone spilt the salt shaker on it and then cooked it 3x longer than necessary. Chocolate dessert was amazing. Waiter was good, not too fast, not too slow. Could have sped things up just a notch but overall good. Gave him 20%.

Hadn't been to dinner here in years, and probably wouldn't have without Restaurant Week. Food was great, service good. Only negative was the noise level, and am sure that was because of the packed house due to Restaurant Week. But, this restaurant is convenient to our home, and we'll be back to see if we can find a good resuaurant with a quiet bar.

Honestly, I would have enjoyed the evening more if the service was better. The waitress went on and on about the truffle mac and cheese and talked us into adding it to the evening. She said it would take 15 minutes and to add it to the entree portion of the evening, and that it was baked with a crust on top. As the waitress brought the entrees the mac and cheese was not delivered. It was obvious it she forgot to include the mac and cheese and she stated we would have it in 2-3 minutes. What was brought to the table was an insult. It was obvious she brought the uncooked mac and cheese, with the noodle not properly cooked and no crust on top. She passed off unfinished food to cover her mistake. That is what sticks out in my mind.

The food was excellent, the service was excellent as well. The prices for food were a little high, but was expected. The only complaint I had was paying $12 for a highball drink. That's way to high for the amount and quality of the drink. Other than that, it was a good experience.

Our meal was just good, but the price point and reviews led us to believe it would be great. My husband had the aged ribeye, and it was so chewy and full of tendons that it was difficult tone eat. It also was not cooked to the requested temperature. The manager apologized and sent is dessert for free, but that was little consolation after paying $59 for a hardly edible piece of meat.

Went to Dakota's based on a recommendation for our first year anniversary from a close family member. We knew the prices going into the restaurant so we figured we would be getting amazing food, service and experience, with the latter being all we got. The food was mediocre at best, maybe it was because we were there when they opened, and were the first ones served out of the kitchen, or maybe it could be from being raised in West Texas where beef and steaks are of the highest quality. I've had 9 dollar steaks that would put the 40 strip to shame. I loved the service thought, our waitress was awesome, and so was the management staff. Maybe we were buying the service and atmosphere and the food came free?

Brought my wife here for her birthday. Fantastic service all around! Very personable yet professional. We sat on the patio by the waterfall on a unseasonably cool summer's day, which was perfect. We split a giant 22oz dry-aged steak, delicious. Scalloped potatoes and corn, awesome. The sides are massive by the way. They had a pianist performing that night, very nice. Not too loud which is good, but better than a too quiet restaurant. Overall what I expect but hardly ever find from a high-dollar restaurant. Worth every penny.

Went to Dakotas for our 5 year wedding anniv, started out great but went downhill when our food arrived. Wife & I both ordered med rare filet mignon, food came fast & when I cut into my steak it was purple & very rare. My wife's steak was perfect, pink on the inside and done on the outside. What annoyed us was our waiter never asked me to cut into my steak & didn't check on us for 10 min, when he did I asked to get my steak cooked more & he argued with me politely that it was how a med rare steak looks, when I showed him my wife's he then grabbed my plate & said he would cook it more, never once saying sorry, manager came & also didn't apologize. Spent $200 on one salad, 3 drinks, two steaks, not one I'm Sorry!! DO NOT RECOMMEND DAKOTAS.

Waiter was ready when needed but not hanging over us. Manager checked on us. Piano player wished us a good evening. In sum, everyone made us feel appreciated. Dakota's is expensive so it is for special occasions only, but the staff and the food made for a special night out.
