A word from Dakota's Steakhouse
What's better than a fine, aged wine? How about a fine, aged steakhouse that serves prime aged steaks. Where would one find such a unique combination? Located below the sidewalks of downtown Dallas at the 29 year Dallas icon, Dakota's Steakhouse.

Sit back and take in the many decorative nuances that make Dakota's still one of the most romantic spots in Dallas. Outside the restaurant, the multi-level waterfall, draping foliage and black granite patio bar make dining outdoors a delight. Inside the restaurant, the New Orleans lamps and imported marble floors neatly package the classic theme. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service are always great. Sometimes the noice level is high if crowded which can make a business conversation more difficult. It was fine this time"

  • "I finally got to eat here yesterday after driving by it for most of my life. It was very good! I went for a client lunch and the service/food/ambience was awesome. I had the salmon which was excellent and the mixed green salad with blackberry vinaigrette was incredible. I have been told the steaks are really good here, but I didn't try one. To me, it was even cooler that we were eating underground. It's not claustrophobic or anything as there is an opening to the street, with a manmade waterfall, that allows natural sunlight in. All in all, I would definitely recommend going here for a special occasion or a client lunch."

  • "Best steaks I have ever had, along with the service..."

  • "This is a great place for a nice evening where there is no crowd. It was only half full during the typical rush. Everything was great up until dessert. We had ordered the pecan pie with ice cream but it tasted as if someone had put a hand full of salt on the top. Other than that it was a perfect evening."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Dallas. When we are in Dallas we never miss eating here. The food and waitstaff are fabulous. The piano is a great touch."

  • "My husband and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary the other night at Dakota's Steakhouse. We both had appetizer, salad and an entrée with the corn and asparagus as sides. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly and he said it was very good. I had the tuna that melted in my mouth. Everything from the drink we had before dinner, Jalapeno Gingersnap Caiprioska, bread with dipping sauce and complimentary dessert they brought us for our anniversary had the presentation and quality you would expect. The service was exceptional as well. I would highly recommend for a special occasion specifically due to the prices were not our typically dining out experience."

  • "The food was good but expensive. The wine list is above average, lots of good choices. The side dishes are very large so of course we over ordered. The main entrees are a little small."

  • "Food was middle of road - not memorable. Same for the expensive cocktails. Most memorable thing was that this may well be the loudest restaurant I have ever visited."

  • "We had a great meal entertaining a client. Our waiter, Nick, was very attentive, but not obtrusive. Food was good."

  • "It was a hidden gem under the street. We were in Dallas for gift market and Dakotas was suggested to us by another attendee. We had a fantastic dinner ( steak was cooked to perfection) along with a fabulous bottle of wine. Loved the waterfall and the piano playing added lively energy. Service was good and our waiter was friendly."

  • "Interestly located in a BEAUTIFUL Batcave...Its very nice with a romantic dinning scene. I thought it was a little dark in the main dinning room although I did dine "outside" by the waterfall and that area is a little warm. The bread is fantastic, yes its the little things that matter. I didnt care for the scalloped potatoes beacuse of the baked bacon. My waitress was very nice.. like I said, Its the little things in life that matter and being polite matters. I had a PHAT 22oz Steak that was delicious."

  • "Dakota's was alot of fun -- the waiter was awesome, he was accommodating, polite, and we were thankful that his attitude did NOT change even though we were the last party there. Hope we tipped him enough -- we kept adding tips. The piano ENSURES that we'll be back, and earlier next time. The salmon was great, the rack of lamb was good, too."

  • "Wedding anniversary. Fifth one at Dakota's! Love the ambiance, service, food, friendliness and attentiveness of the entire staff. Romantic evening with the waterfall as a backdrop. Relaxed and comfortable dining in a sophisticated, upscale (but a bit pricey), downtown gem. Will be back"

  • "Best steak I have ever tasted... the Cowboy. AWESOME. The server was simply awesome. She got our attention, was friendly, funny and made great recommendations. We had told them it was an anniversary dinner at the reservation and the entire Server Team signed a card for us. It was a great touch."

  • "Very impressed with our waitress, Lauren. And the food was awesome. Overall a wonderful evening."

  • "This was my first trip to Dakota's. I wasn't overly impressed with my food, as my chicken was a little bland and my potatoes (hash) was over salted. My wife did enjoy her salmon, though. The service was friendly and very prompt on everything we asked for. It was also my wife's birthday and they chipped in a free dessert. The pecan pie was pretty good, in my opinion, but I didn't know that it was coming so I was kinda stuffed by the time it came out. The pricing was very good considering it is a steakhouse. I'd definitely give it another try."

  • "This restaurant has a great atmosphere, with piano on the weekends. We love it because it is so close to the Symphony and Opera Halls. We've had great service and steaks cooked perfectly. My husband had salmon and it was cooked on a plank and it was perfect also."

  • "The cowboy steak was not edible. The piano music was so loud we could not have a conversation! This was my second bad experience! "
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "I went in thinking the atmosphere would be snooty, but it wasn't. The waiter was attentive (Jeffrey with a J), he gave excellent suggestions as far as the menu goes. The drinks, food, desert came out in a timely manner and were all delicious."

  • "Place was nice and had someone playing the piano all night. The girlfriend and I wanted to check it out since all you see at street level is an elevator and you go down to the restaurant. I think for around the same price I could have about the same food and service at many other places downtown, and though the food was good, could probably find a nicer place for around the same price."

  • "My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner at Dakota's three years ago and we decided to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary here. We had another specacular experience, from the service to the meal and everything in between. We'll be going back again for sure. Many thanks for the complimentary champagne and hand signed card for our anniversary as well. Touches like that make a big difference. I am from New York and have been to many of the great steak houses back East, and Dakota's is right up there on top of the list of those great places, even surpassing the great Peter Luger's in my opinion."

  • "We went to Dakota's to celebrate my birthday. We were seated in the atrium area which was perfect for a romantic dinner. The service and timing were perfect. It was our first time dining at Dakota's and we will definitely be returning."

  • "I wouldn't describe this restaurant as a hip, new restaurant, but it's definitely a timeless classic. The restaurant has been open for decades, and the service and food are incredible. My waiter made it a lot of fun. We sat on the "sunken" outdoor patio next to the waterfall fountain - highly recommend."

  • "Great food from appetizers through dessert - definitely don't miss the steaks! Prices were somewhat high, and it seemed like most of the people there were from out of town - business dinners from conferences, etc., as were we - for that purpose, it was perfect. "

  • "Very nice dinner, steak was excellent, prices a bit high but water fall was very nice. Waiter was excellent. Wine was a bit disappointing for such an upscale steak house. "

  • "My wife and I use special occasions as reason to frequent some of the better restaurants in DFW. After dining at Dakota's for my wife's birthday, we rank Dakota's near the top! The food was incredible, and the gentleman waiting on us, (Bradley) was superb! We will be dining there again soon."

  • "Second visit, and if possible, even more disappointing than the first. We had a larger group the first time. Somehow they managed to get everyone'ssteaks mixed up...nobody had the steak prepared the way they had requested. Unacceptable when payiing $30/$40 per steak. Service uneven. Thought I'd try again for Mother's Day Brunch. We were seated in this remote area by the bathrooms though the main area was not crowded. Food was terrible and service, though efficient, was very cold; server seemed almost hostile towards us. Horrible experience and wont be back."

  • "Have driven by Dakota's for years and finally decided to make dinner reservations for my wife and I. Great little bar area, good appetizers, healthy pour. Sat in the courtyard for dinner. Great steaks and sides. Service from Bradley was fantastic. Top notch little underground spot. "

  • "Our dinning experience here was wonderful! We didn't feel rushed, food was amazing, ambience was perfect. Thank you thank you! "

  • "We dined at Dakota's on our wedding night 20 years ago. We have returned periodically for special occasions and it never disappoints. For our recent 20th anniversary celebration, we returned to Dakota's on a pretty May evening. We were seated outdoors and at some point mentioned to our waiter that we had eaten there on our wedding night and were back for our 20th anniversary. The food, ambience and service were impeccable during the evening, and at the end of our dinner the waiter surprised us with an anniversary card signed by the entire staff. They also treated us to a complimentary dessert and called up our car so that there was no waiting at the valet stand. Just a class act all the way!"

  • "Everything about Dakota's is classic. It was a good meal with a good feel throughout. I would go back with a smile."
    Dined on 5/5/2014
  • "We enjoyed our experience, but the seating arrangement ( two round tables pushed together) did not serve well with children. The food was good, but my dinner experiences have been more memorable. The staff was very friendly and professional. I am going back for dinner this everning for a 70th birthday celeberation. The location is great!"
