Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients. The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of California and Oregon while offering a few of the traditional styles of Europe and Australia. Rich mahogany millwork and earth tone colors set the stage for a comfortably elegant dining experience.   • "Took my son and his fiancé to Dakota's for his birthday dinner. He had never been and chose the restaurant based on reviews. Robert was our waiter and service was excellent. Chargrilled oysters and lamb nachos were delicious. Son's fiancé had the tuna and thought it was delicious. We had a very leisurely dinner, were not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed the food and ambience. Would definitely go back."

  • "Neither my wife nor I are picky eaters, so we always have the chef's tasting whenever possible. It's not on the menu, but the chef's tasting is worth every penny and your palate will be excited with every course and every bite. It was absolutely a fantastic tasting/dining experience from start to finish. We even asked to speak to the chef so we could personally thank him for such an exquisite experience. This isn't the first time we have had the chef's tasting at this restaurant and everytime it has left us wanting to experience it again and again."

  • "An evening to remember. Since it opened Dakota remains one of our top white table cloth choices in all of New Orleans. From the Crab and Brie Soup to the sautéed Red Snapper with Andoullie creme the food nearly ate itself. Our friend Robert took amazing care of us and saw to every last detail. Bravo!"

  • "I took my wife and daughter for dinner on Valentine's Day. The restaurant was VERY busy, which may have been the reason for the INCREDIBLY slow service. The four-couse dinner was good overall. The crab and brie soup was the best dish of the meal by far. The Bleu salad was really good, too. However, my Filet was overcooked and my wife said her Grilled Lobster was bland. Dessert was not that memorable. My main problem was that we had to ask for bread and tea refills several times, and the meal took about 2 hours, which seemed really long for just the three of us!"

  • "We have dined here many times, and generally love the place. We thought we would have our Valentine's Day dinner on the 13th, in order to avoid the large crowds on the 14th. We arrived at 6pm, and there was only one other table in our section occupied. However, service was still very, very slow. I am not sure whether the problem was with the kitchen, or the wait staff. They may have just been shorthanded. To their credit, everyone from the manager (thanks Robert!) to the hostess pitched in to try to keep everyone happy. By 7pm the place had filled up and food delivery had slowed even more. But, the food was delicious, as usual, if not always as hot as it should have been. We have had some fantastic meals here, but only average tonight."

  • "I love this place. Each and every visit has been great. I always have to start with the crab Brie soup. Like creammy butter melting in your mouth. The nightly special was a wine basted slow cooked boneless beef rib. Fantastic. So much meat, I needed a doggie bag. The dinner was very filling so I ordered my coconut cake to go. I cannot visit without getting my cake. Good bottle of Malbec topped off an excellent meal. If you are in the area, try it. And the service and staff are great also."

They overbooked and we waited an hour and a half to be seated and ended up leaving because there were STILL people ahead of us waiting. Dakota actually ruined my family's Christmas Eve. At this point there wasn't anywhere else to go eat so we just went home. Absolutely unacceptable, especially on Christmas."

  • "My daughters and i dined at Dakota on Christmas Eve. While the food was good, the service was poor. It was not our waitress' fault, but rather the fact that they did not have enough wait staff. It took forever for our entrees to come out and when they did they were cold. Then we had to wait to catch the waitress to have them sent back. I had ordered a steak and when it was returned, it was no longer medium rare, so it had to go back AGAIN. So my daughters started eating theirs while I sat waiting for my entree. There were long waits between courses. I fully expected some compensation to be offered due to our having to send back the food, but none was made. Suffice it to say, that I will not be returning nor recommending Dakota!"

  • "Christmas eve reservation week in advance. confirmed with restaurant day before Christmas Eve. Arrived exactly on time, place was a zoo. Hostess stated they double-booked and everyone, more than 30 people, were waiting in the bar area. Everyone was told 30 min. or more delays! Once seated, took 45 min. before bread , drinks. Once drink service began, it appeared to function a little better! They really screwed up, and it seem like a cattle call for what is normally a refined, traditionally elegant, restaurant"

  • "We go to Dakota for special occasions - it that kind of place - this one was my wife's birthday. The food and service have always been outstanding. Unfortunately, this meal was marred by the poor level of service. I don't know if it was the fact that it was a Monday and the A-team was off, or just mix-ups in the kitchen, but the waiter, Jesse, had to ask us twice if we had gotten our order. We both ordered appetizers and salads along with the entrees. We had the brie soup and the shrimp and grits - both outstanding. For the entrees, we had the seafood mixed grill and the seafood special (red fish - again, outstanding preparation and presentation. I will still go back for the food, as this was the first time we had such poor service."

  • "Agree with the other positive reviews that this restaurant is unique in its outstanding service-- they make everyone feel special. Food was innovative and well prepared-- highly recommend the shrimp and grits starter, strawberry, goat cheese and arugula salad, and grilled redfish. Truly amazing how great this restaurant is, yet it is hidden on a busy highway between a Best Western and Burger King. Will admit we were concerned due to the dress code, as we were on a road trip with only casual clothing, but not a problem-- and there were people even more casually dressed than we were. Hope to return here again on our next road trip."
