Diner Reviews
  • "The Patio at Dakota is the best place to eat. Without the patio I think the restaurant wouldn't make it although the food is really good. They have been open for a long time and it's time for a little renovation. The inside is starting to look shabby."

  • "Once again, Dakota's patio provided a lovely place for friends to gather and catch up. The food is good, the service helpful, and the ambiance is peaceful."

  • "I met with two old co-workers who remain my friends for a birthday lunch celebration. We ate in the far eastern edge of the beautiful patio on a breezy and cool spring day. With the heat just weeks away, it was a pleasant experience. Lunch was great as was our wait-staff."

  • "I chose Dakota because it was a local restaurant and I was really looking forward to it. I was seated within a few minutes, given a menu and water and that was it. I waited almost 15 minutes, and while servers walked past me, no one acknowledged me. I got up and left and no one even noticed. I'm sure it's a good restaurant but my experience was not good."

  • "The patio and garden are quiet wonderful places to eat and chat with friends. The food is excellent, better than ever."

  • "New server needed more tips from experienced ones but the food was good- A cheese and fruit plate should have come with some type of bread or crackers but it had nice fruit and salad was fresh - Dessert was tasty It is a delightful evening with a bit of western atmosphere when you hear gunfight and train. So fun and pleasant still - A couple of cats roaming the village area make it interesting They have a nice selection to choose from to appeal to a variety of tastes"

  • "We went as a group of four. We reserved the day before and did indeed have a patio seat but at the far end of the patio that is fully in the sun. All the outdoor "good tables" were given I assume on a first come first serve basis. We said we only had an hour (at 1:30). We were served water and drinks and then no one came for over 30 minutes to refill our waters, I needed to go to the Hostess to ask for service. Our meals came 45 minutes later. Everyone was quite satisfied with their meals, not overwhelmed, but a few of us had salads which are often difficult to 'jazz up". Would come here again, but request a better table. It appeared they were under-staffed for a very busy lunch hour."

  • "I met a friend for a business lunch and it was great. The service was very good and the food was outstanding. The restuarant was booked but they didn't rush us through. If I had not made the reservation on Open Table I don't think we would have been able to eat at Dakota on Tuesday."

  • "Food was inconsistent. Some was good, some seemed to have been sitting around/not fresh. Not worth the price."

  • "Had a 17 year break from visiting. Just hadn't made it back to that side of town. Forgot how good it was. Will get back more often going forward."

  • "I didn't think of Trail Dust Town as a dining destination, but Dakota's food is very good and the setting is pleasant and entertaining. Great burgers and a nice patio and garden."

  • "While Dakota is great for brunch and dinner, it is just the most wonderful place to dine for lunch. It serves such a great variety of delicious salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I love to sit outside on a warm sunny day. The staff is efficient and you always receive excellent service."

  • "The food was served hot and tasted very good. Time from ordering to serving was reasonable."

  • "Was very tasty but very little steak in the sandwich. Liked it on ciabatta bread and it wasn't too HUGE."

  • "We were a little early for our, reservation but they were happy for us to sit at the bar with only water. Great service and wonderful menu choices. Quiet enough for old friends to catch up. Finally, we had a coupon, which really made the meal quite a bargain. We'll remember to go back often."

  • "The food and service Thursday at lunch was excellent. We had friends from Monterey, CA visiting and some had ties to Tucson. They thought it was a great experience and we did as well. The food was very seasoned - not too much - not too little. The staff was present when needed but not intrusive. We were able to have our meal and a conversation at the same time without interruption or too much noise. Had it been about 5 degrees warmer we would have taken a table outside."

  • "While the atmosphere and service are nice, the food is spotty. The Dakota burger is quite good (was evern better with the "old" ciabatta bun). The manicotti was disappointing. Sauce tasted like it was out of a can, acidic, tinny. Surf/turf and scallops were good, not great. So much potential here ... neat atmosphere, wish the food was a notch better."

  • "For a change, we decided to try doing the happy hour between 4-7PM. A nice selection of appetizers is half price, with drinks at a reduced price. Service and food were both great."

  • "My husband and I like to go to Dakota Café for special occasions. We decided to go New Years Eve and the waitress recommended the couples I had the surf and turf which was excellent and my husband had the steak very pleased with his as well. The spring rolls and sauce were very good and the desert, Bailys cream cheese cake was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for their outstanding service, food and ambience!"

  • "Great value and nice location. I believe it's right on the grounds of some museum (tourist attraction). Went with my daughter and mother. I had the shrimp enchilada. Nice baby shrimp is a tasty cream sauce. My mother had the hangar steak for the first time ever and fell in love with it. Tender and juicy. My daughter had the meatloaf. She thought it was great and very different from what we're used to. She mentioned it had a southwestern spice which made it quite enjoyable."

  • "We'd never been there before. Picked it out online because it had a TG special dinner and 4 stars. We were not disappointed. Great variety to choose from, food was terrific, staff was friendly and courteous and we felt right at home in a new city where we met family halfway for the holiday. What a fun time! Thanks for the experience."

  • "My husband and I went for dinner on Thanksgiving, as we were on our own. The meal was very good and the service was excellent. We had looked the menu up on line so we knew what we were having and the price. It was a bit high, but it was a holiday. The only thing we thought was over priced was the drinks. We only had 2 glasses of wine and a pot of tea and the all inclusive meal was $28each. That would be $56 + drinks and the bill was $80. That seemed a bit high to us, but we did not question it, and we will go there again, because it has good food, it is quite, in a nice location and only 4 miles from home."

  • "I don't usually think of Trail Dust Town as a dining destination, but Dakota was perfect for a an al fresco lunch. We sat outside (inside might have been a bit noisy) gazing at the flowers and peaceful setting. The food was a really pleasant surprise. I had the chili with cornbread, which was delicious. My friend had the Dakota burger, which looked great and was devoured with much enjoyment. [She didn't offer me a bite!] Service was helpful and efficient."

  • "Traildust Town is a beautiful, well-kept replica of a quaint Wild West town. Very very special and a cultural landmark for Tucson. On one end is a gorgeous touristy steak place with poor quality food and on the other end sits the Dakota with excellent food, good service and delightful outdoor patios. Pet friendly. Live music. Entrees from $11 to $28 with most $20 or less and excellent values. Love the scallops, the chicken enchilada, the salmon, the steaks and husband says the burgers are best in town. So, we basically love this place."

  • "I have eaten at Dakota twice in the last three days and it remains one of the better restaurants in Tucson. The service was outstanding and I don't rate all wait staff the same but Dakota's staff was always available, attentive and never needed to be called. The food was very good. I have had almost everything on their menu over the past several years and the meals this week tasted excellent and their portion sizes seem to be right on the money."
