I had a great experience. I was caught off guard at how small the portions were. That should be something that the staff mentions from the beginning. Also, please get warm sake! It would have been perfect!

The food here, mainly small dishes is hard to describe- Japanese based but roaming far from that base. For example, we had a delicious grilled Brussels sprout & pork skewer. A dinner can be cobbled together with several small dishes but really it seems to be more heavy bar food- think tapas but Japanese inspired.

Love this place! It's small enough for intimate get togethers but big enough for groups of 6's and 8's. The fun dishes are very modern and very well put together in terms of texture and taste. Will definitely be back!

A friend told me about this spot, and I brought an out of town friend with me to check it out on a Sunday night. We made reservations for the izakaya. The food was delicious! My favorite was a special that night - tofu & mushrooms. I don't have words to describe it, amazing. The vibe is friendly and you can make friends with your neighbors, if you're so inclined. We tried to order the mac n' cheese special but were told they had just sold the last dish. A neighbor, two tables down sent over a few bites when they heard we couldn't get any from the kitchen! How great is that? Can't wait to check out the ramen.

Izakaya was delicious, but we also wanted to try the downstairs Daikaya ramen shop. Since the downstairs doesn't take reservations, we put our names on the list for the downstairs, and then enjoyed both types of meals!

The food is fantastic. We loved everything that we ordered and had a hard time picking a favorite dish at the end of the night. The only potential negative is that it is incredibly loud and can be difficult to hear the people you are with. Although, I love that they have a DJ and the atmosphere is energetic.

We had a fabulous time dining at Daikaya Izakaya. The service was wonderful, the food was absolutely delicious-- especially the Japanese beef hamburger steak with the sunny side egg on top. If you are sensitive to spice, beware-- everything seemed to have a bit of a kick to it, but even I, who generally am very sensitive to spice, didn't mind it because everything was so flavorful. Their specialty Arnold Palmers were a real treat too. Fun atmosphere and great service. We'd definitely go back.

Went thinking the tapas sized dishes were going to be spectacular based on reviews. How wrong we were. The dishes were overpowered by the saltiness or overcooked that it was rubbery. Fortunately, the selections of Japanese whiskeys, sakes, service and ambiance made up for the absence of flavor. Although, the ramen spot downstairs is spot on! Maybe they were just having an off night. I'll give it another go in the near future.

If our server wasn't so well versed on the menu - and utterly entertaining - I know our whole experience would have been very different. The menu is highly imaginative and the food very well flavored ... really the only thing I didn't enjoy was the Rocky Balboa. But I was also dining with less a adventurous eater and many of the items did not strike her fancy, BUT thanks to our server (and our friendship!) she tried many things she had never tried before and found that she actually does enjoy sake! My husband and I will definitely be back to try more of this truly interesting menu!

I've heard so many great things about this place - but was so disappointed. The grilled octopus was too tough to chew, many of the dishes were without unique taste. The final bill for three was over $100 for a few plates and a round of beer. On the plus side, service was very good and the place has a great vibe. Maybe we were there on an off night.

The food was phenomenal, portions a little small but it's tapa style and prices were reasonable for dinner. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about every dish on the menu, made great recommendations, and was very attentive. Decor is super cute, however it got a little loud in the dining room. I would definitely go back for the Enoki mushrooms, pork and cabbage skewers and the smashed fried potatoes!

I'm the designated "restaurant picker" for a group who all enjoy good food, drink, and each other's company. We get together monthly. I selected Izakaya on a whim, because of the stellar reviews, but was a little worried that it might be too "exotic" for a couple of the gals within my group. Not to worry! Tom took fabulous care of us, with great drink and food recommendations, and worked around everyone's food preferences. Yum! We all had a great experience, and it was a lovely evening. I'll definitely be back! ;-)

Excellent, really. The food is interesting and delicious and varied and just really great. Make sure to order some rice to go with it, though. Flavors are strong and intense at times, but the portions are small. Lighting was low and woody. Not so pricey as to break the piggy bank, either. Down side: we sat under the A/C and it was really cold.

My niece and I sipped a $40 bottle of Sake while sampling mambo wings, mushrooms, edamamme, miso salmon, and grilled avocado. Everything was prepared well, though the mushrooms were a bit on the salty (like way salty) side. Not sure this is a place I would go often, but it was nice to try!

I have never been a big fan of the "small plate" food scene but Izakaya makes the experience enjoyable with slightly larger portions. Our server Tom was amazingly knowledgeable about all the food options and selected a fantastic sake (G Fifty-one) for the meal. The ramen at Daikaya was great! However, I was disappointed by the food at Izakaya. The biggest disappointment was the Takowina. Maybe i should have paid more attention to the description-however, I am pretty sure it the menu did not describe it as a hotdog shaped into a baby octopus. I only realized it was a hotdog when I bit into the "head'. It then dawned on me why it was served with ketchup and mustard, which I thought was really odd for Japanese food. The second disappointment was the Croissant sisig. I am Filipino and found it odd to have the sisig as a sandwich on a croissant. What is Japanese or Asian about a croissant. I gave it a chance by ordering it. Huge regret. The basic review for Izakaya-it is not AUTHENTIC Japanese food.

This is only my second time at Daikaya Izakaya (I've been downstairs to have the ramen as well) and I really like the vibe of the whole place. The food is nice, since I'm vegan, there are only a few options, but the drinks list is nice. I had the ginger beer (non-alcoholic) and an ume rice ball. The rice balls at Kushi are better, in my opinion. For whatever reason the ume didn't come inside of the rice ball (???) and instead it came on the plate next to the rice ball. This is a great place to bring a first date because there's so much energy in the place. You also have small plates which are great if things go south, hahaha!

This is definitely an izakaya - which means food to have with drinks. While the feel is Japanese many of the dishes are far beyond what a Japanese Izakaya would serve - many interesting flavor combination for example roasted eggplant with a lamb sauce. Vritually all of the small dishes can be easily shared by two allowing one to sample more dishes. Desserts which are not a feature in more authentic Japanese spots are notable here - try the black sesame panna cotta - unusual and delicious.

Was expecting more ... more vibe, wider selection, better food. My meal was fine - ordered the pork belly with kimchi rice bowl - but it was a bit too salty and the kimchi was mediocre (but I'm Korean and pretty picky about my kimchi); my friends ordered the salmon sandwich (tasty but fish was overcooked), and a salmon rice bowl (no complaints). Had read about the vibe and perhaps there's more at night; but at lunch time, with only a few other tables occupied, it was all a bit lackluster. Willing to go back and give them another shot; perhaps my expectations were too high. I did just return from a short trip in Kyoto.

Decent food but service was less than desirable. I had reservations for 815 in the evening. We arrived at 805 and was told that they are clearing tables and to please have a drink at the bar. Twenty minutes later after seeing two tables get cleared with 1 seated and 1 open I asked the if our table was ready. The answer was no, when asked about the open table, she replied that they were 'saving it for a table for 3' . After another 10 minutes I was left with ordering from the bar when they finally offered the table to us. While the food was good I do not intend on coming back here again.
