Da VinciGreat restaurant!This was my first time eating at da Vinci's restaurant.
The food was excellent. I had the Indian Italian ravioli. It was a great fusion idea.
My mother had the lamb with sweet potato and rabe.
She loved it, but the rabe was a little bitter for her.
Our salads with the pears and candied pecans were excellent.
And the Tiramasu was awesome. It was layered and very light,
(And on the house!)
The service was very attentive and personable.
Excellent idea to have menus that light up so you can read them
more easily.
The decor was very nice and classy. High ceilings keep noise down.
Will definitely be back.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA Keeper!DaVinci is a bit out of the way, i.e. no other restaurants nearby, but it has been around for a while, and for good reason. Lovely space, gracious service, Chef Peppino comes by each table to chat, and his food is wonderful! We shared a tasty yellow beet salad - mmmmmm, then each ordered an entree. The Chef sent out a substantial portion of gnocchi bolognese for each of us. So good that we ate most of it, then had to take home part of the very substantial entrees! She realized we were there to celebrate 2 special graduations and she went out of her way to tell the chef. He sent over a lovely appetizer and a champagne toast!!!! Our graduates were made to feel special, welcome to celebrate and loved every morsel of food. Really we had a lovely, delicious, meal and would recommend it in a second. Lamb presented beautifully and tasted wonderful cooked to perfection. The choc. souffle was so delicious, molten inside, with home made gelato = superb!!! Tiramisu to die for.... The food is very good and the prices relatively reasonable for this area. With a larger table, the service was not quite as attentive but there were three or four large parties there that night and we were all engaged in conversation so the waiter may have been holding back on purpose. Two small quibbles. The wine was placed on the table without any opportunity to taste it. Also, the bar had no bitters, which was quite odd. The bartender seemed proud of this fact, much to the irritation of our guests from NYC. Everyone liked their food. Excellent flavor sauce with them! I had the roasted rack of lamb with a pesto sauce - WOW! Melted in my mouth! My husband tried the Veal chop - again, such amazing flavors!!! The waiter, Daniel, was very attentive to us. It came up in conversation that we were at the restaurant celebrating my birthday, and when the Pears Crustini dessert (which again was just wonderful!) arrived, Daniel had them write "Happy Birthday" in CHOCOLATE on the plate! And ingeniously had one candle inside of a sliced strawberry!! I was so overwhelmed by their thoughtfulness and attentiveness! Compared to Davios and Erbaluce which are within a block of DaVinci and also Italian, I'd say the service and food at DaVinci was superior. Rigatoni Bolognese is possibly the best in the city and maybe best I have ever had (other than when I had it a the top restaurant in Bologna Italy). Beef Tenderloin was fantastic (regular menu) and Black Sea Bass (special) was great too. Portion sizes were perfect. It is a little noisy, some of the noise came from a couple watching a basketball game at the bar and cheering rather loudly. fortunately the game ended about 15 minutes after we were seated. The Chef suggested items for our meal, and was happy to accomodate a vegetarian. For starters, a burrata with tomato, a small green salad and cheesy arancini were all excellent. Next, the Masala raviolis were an inventive Indian/Italian fusion, bursting with flavor, and the gnocchi con funghi were soft and comforting, rich and truffly. Main courses of haddock and melt in your mouth beef tenderloin were also top notch, as was a molton chocolate cake dessert with vanilla ice cream. There were no flaws, and no shortcomings in our meal. A personal visit from the chef was a special treat. We went during restaurant week and at the top of the menu it said ask your server about gluten free options. Our server did not seem at all knowledgeable.
