Diner Reviews
  • "We have lunch here prior to theater when we are at Studio 54 shows. Always have the most wonderful vegetable soup - like fresh fom the garden - salads are excellent. Don't understand why it isn't more crowded - it is a gem."

  • "We had dinner again last Saturday and it's always delicious! The service is friendly and helpful but very professional! Will suggest ideas off the menu. The food is homemade and fresh."

  • "This was recommended by a friend and the experience was wonderful Specials are unique and excellent. Menu has a good variety also. Small intimate setting with excellent staff."

  • "We were referred to Da Tomasso by a friend who worked at the comedy club around the corner. Our waiter was so attentive and knew a large amount of specials by heart. One of us had the pork which I belie was a special and it was excellent. One of us had the ravioli which was a special and was also fabulous. Had a great bottle of wine with dinner as well. Small place but what a find."

  • "The restaurant is a perfectly adequate spot for a solid if not amazing Italian dinner, particularly good for pre theatre eating. The prices are quite reasonable. They are always very busy, which speaks well of them. The service on our last visit was less attentive and slower than on our first visit and the wait staff can express opinions not actually requested. I would recommend it for a casual NYC meal"

  • "It's great to find this restaurant still there and still up to its usual standards. It was perfect for dinner before the theater."

  • "My out-of-town friend and I decided to go to Da Tommaso after reading some reviews. We should have paid more attention to the negative ones. The food was both mediocre (mine) and truly inedible (my friend's). I had the rigatoni Amatriciana which wasn't bad, but my friend had the fussili with spinach, prosciutto, & parmesan cheese. She took two bites and left the rest....that's how bad it was. Service was good and our waiter delightful. But...that didn't make up for the poor food. Please don't make the mistake we did....stay away."

  • "We love this place, especially for nights at the theater. Not a hot spot just delicious food and great service."

  • "I've been coming here for over two decades and have sent my family and friends here every chance I get. I absolutely love Da Tommaso! The food is consistently excellent, prices more than reasonable for the neighborhood, and the service is outstanding. My wife and I arrived over a half hour late for our reservation due to traffic coming in from NJ, and we were still seated promptly. When I told the waiter we were now in a rush to get to our show, he said "no problem" and the food was prepared (perfectly!) in a flash. the check hit the table the minute I said we were finished, and we made the curtain with time to spare! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"

  • "I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It was not horrible food but it was nothing to rave about. The waitstaff was nice."

  • "On a recent après-snow evening we stepped into the entrance of Da Tommaso and we were greeted and seated right away. Our drink orders were taken and without delay we had our cocktails and a warm basket of bread. When we placed our order we asked that the kitchen please delay our order so that we could relax and enjoy our surroundings. They were happy to oblige and when we did ask for our dinner it arrived hot and yummy. The stuffed mushrooms were a great start. The salmon and chicken Milanese entrees were perfect. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I am ready to go back ."

  • "Went there before theater and the service was very good. Three of us had the special of Chilean Sea Bass which was very good. Another pasta dish was ordered which was just OK. The mussels appetizer was very tasty. Overall, the price was very reasonable and the food was good."

  • "Da Tommaso NYC was a nice enjoyable establishment. Stayed on 47th Street and it was just short walk from there. The waiter was very professional and not pushy. Food was good and just the right portion for me and my guest. The waiter and bus staff were always available, but they did not bother you. Would definitely return here when in NYC. Thank you very much. I found Da Tommaso on the internet looking for Italian restaurants in NYC and glad I did."

  • "There were eight in our 5:30 pm dinner group, and we were glad they seated us in their back room, where there was more privacy and less noise. The menu is extensive, with enough variety to please even the fussiest palate. I felt that the appetizer portions were somewhat small for the price, and was disappointed with my mixed green salad. The tomatoes were tasteless and mushy. I had asked for my salad dressing "on the side", and was given bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Not what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Several in our group ordered the fillet of sole special and were quite pleased with it. But the salmon dish was judged to be over-cooked, and the vegetables in my pasta were too soft."

  • "Very cool small Italian restaurant....sweet waiters....delicious wine.....delicious lasagne....I had chicken with sausage and veggies...he was happy to substitute anything which I love..... the sausage didn't taste super fresh....everything else delicious.... dimly lit, great ambience....good for intimate duos or groups..... music nice but would be better if Italian..... Absolutely best lasagne I have ever had...."

  • "I have been coming to Da Tommaso for a number of years, but it had been several since I had dinner before this evening. I was not surprised, however, to see that the range of offerings, excellent preparation and presentation, and outstanding attentive service had not changed. This is consistently one of the better restaurants in the Midtown West area, won't destroy your budget, and won't disappoint in any way."

  • "In the hustle and bustle of Times Square with lots of fast food outlets we walked past this little beauty and decided to eat there after watching a Broadway show. They were open until late and were very happy to accommodate us on short notice. The food was authentic Italian. The decor was very inviting with lovely little tables for two in the decorative windows overlooking 8th Avenue. As an Australian visitor, I enjoyed this little taste of Italy in the Big Apple. My American Family said they will return to the restaurant and would recommend it."

  • "We were seated right away, not sure if we even got to tell them we had reserved a table. There only seemed to be one server (who's accent was very tough to understand), one gentleman filling drinks and delivering bread & dinner, and what appeared to be the manager on duty floating around. Overall It's a quaint little Italian restaurant in the City and the food is very good. I'd go again."

  • "We had a nice traditional style Italian dinner. The highlight was the desert - the cheescake was outstanding, and the whipped cream was to die for."
    Dined on 12/26/2013
  • "Very good food. However, the unprofessional and discourteous demeanor of some of the wait staff totally ruined the overall experience."

  • "We went visited this restaurant prior to attending a show on Christmas night. The food was delicious, however we were not thrilled with having to order all of our food at once (I.e wanted to order appetizer before deciding main course). Otherwise, we felt that our experience was really very good. The dessert menu was something we could have taken or left, as we weren't overly impressed with the quality of the desserts for an Italian restaurant. If you're looking to have a quality dinner with a calm and quiet ambience, this is the perfect place."

  • "That's pretty much all you need from a good restaurant. The restaurant might seem a little cramped with all the tables and chairs very close together, but other than that, the great food and very attentive service makes up for it. I'd come back again anytime!"

  • "We arrived exactly at our appointed time, and although the place was very busy, we were seated immediately. Our waiter was friendly and aimed to pease. We were not rushed, and since this was Christmas Day. we had the opportunity to chat with our guests and linger over our meal. I will definitely return to this restaurant and will certainly recommend it to our friends! It was a very pleasant dining experience!"

  • "Completely enjoyed our Christmas Eve dinner! Service, food and ambience were excellent. Kid friendly, but definitely not a chain restaurant, so our children enjoyed dressing up and eating out. Staff very attentive to all. Would definitely recommend and will be back next year."

  • "The food was delicious . The service was good. Great spot for before a show"

  • "We selected the restaurant because it was one of very few open on Christmas day and glad we did. We loved the authentic Little Italy ambiance without the time to travel to that section of the city. The owner answered the phone, checked our coats,, and helped deliver some of our meal. The bread was nothing special, but we greatly enjoyed the special (stuffed pork chop in marsala sauce) and eggplant parmesan which arrived quickly after a rather fair caesar salad. Unfortunately,we were late for the theater and didn't have the time to finish our meal. Note: if you want pasta with your meal rather than potatoes and vegetables, it is an extra $12. Way too high for an inexpensive meal component!"

  • "Food is consistent here sometimes it can be a bit noisy if to u have a large party close to you. has more of a local field and touristy"

  • "The laughably bad service from start to finish ruined our evening - and other than one good busboy was the only one not completely clueless. Food mediocre"

  • "Our waiter was preoccupied with another table and seemed annoyed by us. The food was very unexceptional. The staff kept trying to remove our food and/or drinks before we were done, All in all...a very marginal experience."

  • "This is a good convenient Italian restaurant for the Times Square and upper theater area dining. Food was good, well prepared and the staff was friendly and attentive."

  • "We were so delighted when we tried this restaurant for the first time. I am a picky eater and my husband is the opposite, yet we were both able to find absolutely delicious dishes to satisfy our different palates. The atmosphere was nice with tablecloths and cloth napkins. We had one waiter who was working the entire back room and did so impeccably. There was a routine that existed between him and his helpers, where he communicated a flawless system of operation. Water glasses were continually filled with that delicious NYC water. Also available was bottle water and various wine choices. We did not feel rushed at all - and YES the accent of the waiter made us feel like we were in Italy!!! Don't miss this one! Enjoy!"

  • "Had dinner prior to seeing Wicked for wife's 50th B'Day. Fabricio was great and the Food better. The experience was more than I expected. Was recommended to me. I would recommend it to anyone. Found out it is Cal Ripkens favorite Italian Restaurant when he visits NYC"
