Diner Reviews
  • "The decor is outdated, and it seems like they are trying to be fancier than they are. The service was attentive but a little pushy. The host and waiter both asked what we wanted to drink before we were given a wine list, and when we asked for one, the waiter demanded to know whether we wanted a bottle or glasses of wine. We weren't sure yet; we wanted to see the list! He then tried to get my boyfriend to order a different special than he wanted, and encouraged us to add-on appetizers and salads. I felt like I said "no thanks" about 10 times. The entrees were pretty good though, despite the bread on the table being a little dry/stale."

  • "Not impressed. I expected a better meal. House white wine was too sweet. Fish tasted like it was reheated."

  • "Every time I come to NY I come to Da Tommaso and it never gets old. The food is excellent."

  • "The restaurant looks a bit tired but the food is very good Italian. You cannot go wrong. Lots of old standbys and good prices and portions. Service was good. Got to theatre on time."

  • "Better than we expected, they were very accommodating with the menu. Our waiter was great and basically told us they could prepare just about anything we liked. A real home cooking feel to the place."

  • "We took our granddaughters to see Wicked. Da Tomasso was right near the theater, the food and service were great."

  • "This restaurant is a wonderful find. Went there on a Monday evening with several friends. We were warmly welcomed and the good vibes never faltered. The waiter was extremely helpful and the food--lasagna special for two of us and the seafood pasta for the other two-was delicious. We were given ample time to enjoy ourselves and never felt rushed. We will be sure to return."

  • "Been eating here for years and have never been disappointed--the food is great and so is the service."

  • "Fine for before theater. Meal was good, not spectacular, somewhat pricey. No complaints."

  • "Waiter didn't inform me that I could have substituted asparagus without an extra charge of 11.50, which was a surprise when we got the bill. Food was good but not as good as I remembered. Red sauce restaurant."

  • "The food was very good but the waiter we had was not very attentive. The dining area we were in was on the small side and the tables were jammed in which made it a little uncomfortable."

  • "Was a little hesitant from its appearance from across the street as it looks like it's part of a strip mall. Once we tasted the food, however, all doubts were gone. Appetizers were excellent. Salads were good and my wife's dinner wa the bet salmon she had in a long time. My dinner was chicken piccatta which was very good although not outstanding. The waiter was execellent, very attentive and helpful with suggestions. The only thing in found disappointing for an Italian restaurant was that the bread before the meal was rather ordinary, not warm and no dipping sauces. On the other hand, I ate less of it and had the room to finish my meal."

  • "Small and hidden but outstanding food. Friendly staff but the food is the star. Veal special and homemade ravioli were outstanding."

  • "We enjoyed the evening. Everything was great. The food, the ambience and the service was excellent."

  • "We had dinner before seeing a Broadway show for Mother's Day - although a few block walk from the heart of the theatres, the dining experience was very nice and reasonably priced for a NYC restaurant. Would definitely go back. "

  • "While this restaurant has a great location, food is good, prices are a bit steep. If you don't mind the price you can certainly have a great meal."

  • " Service was excellent. Waiters were attentive. Cozy atmosphere. The Brass was enjoyable and tasty. Stuffed Mushrooms outstanding. Spinach Ravioli amazing. Love the feeling of not being rushed. Da Tommaso's is a hidden gem!"

  • "I reserved dinner here for myself and girlfriend hoping to be blown away by the food and ambiance. While both were good I left longing for more. I'm not sure if it's because the portions weren't as big as I expected or maybe it was because the food was just good and didn't knock me off of my socks. I can definitely say that the food tasted like authentic Italian which was definitely a plus."

  • "Fell into this dreary tourist trap due to its proximity to Studio 54. Big mistake. "

  • "We had dinner at Da Tommaso on 5/1 before seeing Wicked. My wife's girlfriend had recommended it to us that's how we found it. We had a 6pm reservation and were seated right away when we got there a little early. Our waiter was a very nice guy and was also very knowledgable about the food. He recommended the avocado salad and the stuff mushrooms which we both enjoyed. We both ordered a special of the evening not off the menu. I had a very good chicken dish and my wife had the stuffed pork chop. The entrees were both were very good as was the service and we would definitely go back if we were in that area on the city again. "

  • "We love their food before theatre or any other time. They have spedini which is my favorite dish. Everything they make is delicious. The restaurant looks a little tired and so do the waiters! Ambiance is zero. Food is fabulous."

  • "We have lunch here prior to theater when we are at Studio 54 shows. Always have the most wonderful vegetable soup - like fresh fom the garden - salads are excellent. Don't understand why it isn't more crowded - it is a gem."

  • "We had dinner again last Saturday and it's always delicious! The service is friendly and helpful but very professional! Will suggest ideas off the menu. The food is homemade and fresh."

  • "We were referred to Da Tomasso by a friend who worked at the comedy club around the corner. Our waiter was so attentive and knew a large amount of specials by heart. One of us had the pork which I belie was a special and it was excellent. One of us had the ravioli which was a special and was also fabulous. Had a great bottle of wine with dinner as well. Small place but what a find."

  • "The restaurant is a perfectly adequate spot for a solid if not amazing Italian dinner, particularly good for pre theatre eating. The prices are quite reasonable. They are always very busy, which speaks well of them. The service on our last visit was less attentive and slower than on our first visit and the wait staff can express opinions not actually requested. I would recommend it for a casual NYC meal"

  • "It's great to find this restaurant still there and still up to its usual standards. It was perfect for dinner before the theater."

  • "My out-of-town friend and I decided to go to Da Tommaso after reading some reviews. We should have paid more attention to the negative ones. The food was both mediocre (mine) and truly inedible (my friend's). I had the rigatoni Amatriciana which wasn't bad, but my friend had the fussili with spinach, prosciutto, & parmesan cheese. She took two bites and left the rest....that's how bad it was. Service was good and our waiter delightful. But...that didn't make up for the poor food. Please don't make the mistake we did....stay away."

  • "I've been coming here for over two decades and have sent my family and friends here every chance I get. I absolutely love Da Tommaso! The food is consistently excellent, prices more than reasonable for the neighborhood, and the service is outstanding. My wife and I arrived over a half hour late for our reservation due to traffic coming in from NJ, and we were still seated promptly. When I told the waiter we were now in a rush to get to our show, he said "no problem" and the food was prepared (perfectly!) in a flash. the check hit the table the minute I said we were finished, and we made the curtain with time to spare! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!"

  • "On a recent après-snow evening we stepped into the entrance of Da Tommaso and we were greeted and seated right away. Our drink orders were taken and without delay we had our cocktails and a warm basket of bread. When we placed our order we asked that the kitchen please delay our order so that we could relax and enjoy our surroundings. They were happy to oblige and when we did ask for our dinner it arrived hot and yummy. The stuffed mushrooms were a great start. The salmon and chicken Milanese entrees were perfect. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I am ready to go back ."

  • "Da Tommaso NYC was a nice enjoyable establishment. Stayed on 47th Street and it was just short walk from there. The waiter was very professional and not pushy. Food was good and just the right portion for me and my guest. The waiter and bus staff were always available, but they did not bother you. Would definitely return here when in NYC. Thank you very much. I found Da Tommaso on the internet looking for Italian restaurants in NYC and glad I did."

  • "Went there before theater and the service was very good. Three of us had the special of Chilean Sea Bass which was very good. Another pasta dish was ordered which was just OK. The mussels appetizer was very tasty. Overall, the price was very reasonable and the food was good."

  • "There were eight in our 5:30 pm dinner group, and we were glad they seated us in their back room, where there was more privacy and less noise. The menu is extensive, with enough variety to please even the fussiest palate. I felt that the appetizer portions were somewhat small for the price, and was disappointed with my mixed green salad. The tomatoes were tasteless and mushy. I had asked for my salad dressing "on the side", and was given bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Not what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Several in our group ordered the fillet of sole special and were quite pleased with it. But the salmon dish was judged to be over-cooked, and the vegetables in my pasta were too soft."

  • "Very cool small Italian restaurant....sweet waiters....delicious wine.....delicious lasagne....I had chicken with sausage and veggies...he was happy to substitute anything which I love..... the sausage didn't taste super fresh....everything else delicious.... dimly lit, great ambience....good for intimate duos or groups..... music nice but would be better if Italian..... Absolutely best lasagne I have ever had...."
