Pasta dishes were clearly appetizer size but waiter neglected to tell those in our party that they were - result being that two left table hungry. Always was expensive but quality of food and service made up for it - not this time! Don't think I will return again."

  • "Silvano is almost always there to greet his guests and talk to them about whatever fresh food they have that day. The whole staff is warm and welcoming and the food is just awesome. The seating is comfortable and the tables are not on top of each other. Da Silvano has so many wonderful qualities, so it's no surprise this restaurant has thrived since 1975, in a city where most restaurants fail in the first year. All the pastas are cooked perfectly. He imports some of the best burrata you'll find and they always have something new and interesting on the menu to offer. It's the perfect place for a date or a group of friends, whether you're sitting outside, watching the people stroll by or inside this charming restaurant."

DaSilvano is the only place that serves the pasta truly al dente and the portions are just right. Service in wonderful as well. I would go back and recommend to friends."

  • "We did not know that the nextdoor Da Silvano was trendier and bigger,it would have been so much better to eat there. We went in to the corner one and asked them if the other place was the same. They said it was so we stayed on although we were taken back by the ordinary-looking small space and could not understand why the place had such good reviews. The wine list was impressive- they even had Petrus. The owner came twice to say hello to some people he knew, all in all the service was good, the meat was good but we were in the wrong side unfortunately. We were told Yoko Ono and her son had eaten there that day as apparently the famous preferred to eat in the smaller part."

  • "This is very trendy Italian restaurant. If one orders from the "specials", very original and interesting offerings are available which are not usual in most NYC Italian restaurants. The prices are on the high side, especially from the "specials", but it is worth it. The service is attentive especially if the wait staff is not too distracted by "notables" among the clients."

  • "I've been eating at this restaurant for 40 years. This was a Valentine's Day Prix Fixe meal and it just wasn't very good. The cauliflower steak with burrata was OK, but not much and carelessly presented. The mixed grill was a bunch of meat on a plate. Not bad, but they can do better. Drinks were served in random glassware, prosecco in a white wine glass, vin santo in a bar glass, grappa in a prosecco glass. My only regular complaint is Silvano's wine list. It is very limited and very expensive. The mark-ups are extreme and the choices are few. There is maybe only one or two wines under $60 and only a few more under $100. If you want to spend $2800 for Chateau Petrus, go for it. I'll try it again, a la carte."

  • "On my second visit, this past Valentines day, the experience was not very favorable. We booked an early seating (6:30pm), knowing that the day would be crazy there. We got there 5 min before our reservation, and we were seated right away. However, we were seated on a two person table in the corner, but on the outside blocking the inside table. They moved our table back and forth several times to get food to the inside tables. They were not very helpful and when we asked to move and they said nothing was available. There were eight 4 person tables open the entire hour and a half we were there! They were very rude about it too. At minimum, do not go on a pre-fix menu night. Very disappointed."

  • "Although the food was very good, and we were always tended to, the waiters came over TOO much. Every 5 seconds they asked us the same questions over and over and I felt sort of rushed to order my food. My friend and I were catching up, and I did not want to rush. I had to keep repeating that I had not yet decided what I wanted. The one other thing I did not like was I had left a bag there, and returned to the restaurant to get it. When I got there, they were rude and pushed past me instead of helping me. So, I wandered to the table I had sat at earlier and got my bag."

  • "There are too many other good Italian restaurants in the Village to recommend this one. They initially tried to seat us by the door on an evening when it was below 40 outside so the wind would blow in every time the doors would open. This despite that we were one of the first tables in that evening. The service was shabby at best. On a $200+ tab (where they charged us $6.50 for a small amount of extra pasta sauce my wife requested for my daughter's gnocchi), after 10 minutes I had to ask the waiter to bring change for the $250 I left (like he was expecting a $50 tip)? The food was, at best, average for this area, and definitely below average for the prices charged. The quality/treatment has definitely declined in the past few years."

  • "We had a group of 7 and were seated at a round table, which I love. It's holiday time , our table was located by the window where we could view the Xmas lights. The service was fantastic and with between all of us I think we had a good sampling of the menu which everyone enjoyed. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. However I do think their wine list is a bit overpriced."

It was the first real cold day and the year and we felt so warm and protected enjoying our lunch inside. Most of our choices were from the Daily Specials-zuchini blossoms, Oxtail Stew with polenta, rabbit stew, lamb with mashed-there was not a drop left on anyones plate!!"

The small family-run restaurant made us feel as if we were dining as family guests in a very relaxed environment. Service level was very high, and the personal attention afforded was top class.   • "I made an open table reservation for Da Silvano one month before we arrived in NYC. This restaurant came highly recommended by friends who dined there several years ago. The maître d attempted to seat us at a crowded community table near the front door. We asked to be seated at a private table elsewhere and he seemed "put out" but moved us anyway. Our waiter, Fancisco, was very brash, hard to understand and quite bluntly, ruined our evening. He had very little patience when we asked questions about the entrees and wine. When our food arrived we were totally disappointed. Each person in our party ordered something different and not one item was a stand out or delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurants."

  • "Went on a Friday night, ordered Belgian endive and beet salad (excellent, the slight bitterness of the endive balanced the sweetness of the beets nicely) and kale salad (also very good). Then rabbit "stew" which was not stew but a leg quarter on a bed of polenta delicious, osso bucco (excellent, very succulent on a bed of perfectly cooked risotto). We also ordered a bottle of wine and dessert. My only complaint, and this is minor, is that our waiter was constantly trying to up-sell us on everything. He asked us if we wanted "sparkling or flat water" I said "still" meaning regular tap water, he brought the $9 bottle of water. It was pretty clear that his primary concern was to get the bill as high as possible. Hats off to the chef though."

  • "This was comfortably our worst dining experience in New York. The omens were bad when we were served Prosecco in wine glasses instead of flutes and presented with a menu which had a list of far too many specials. As we all know, this is how restaurants try to shed stock. Then came the food itself. Shrimps which were dry and tasteless and fegato which was gloopy with butter and accompanied by reheated roast potato, bland spinach and a limp lettuce leaf for "garnish". Just as bad was the service: lots of bland gushing but no warmth, and an indecent and obvious haste to push us through. We left feeling seriously angry. If you want a really good Village restaurant, go to Perry Street. They really know what they're doing."
