A word from Da Marcella
We source all our meats from Pino's Prime Meat, located right across the street from Da Marcella since 1903, including the organic free-range chicken in our menu. All our pastas are made with the best durum wheat using the classic bronze dies that leave the surface of the pasta rough and porous to perfectly absorb our slow cooking sauces. At the same time, most of our pastas are organic and very...soon all of them will be. We believe that great food should be affordably priced.

We have a passion for good food and excellent service utilizing the best ingredients. Most importantly we have a love for food, service and quality.

Our philosophy is simple: cook with real food to create unbelievable results. Authentic food, authentic service. You deserve it.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our party of three very much enjoyed the authentic Italian food. I would continue to recommend Da Marcella, but you should note that they only serve beer or wine, no other alcohol."

  • "Based on other reviews on Open table I made a reservation ! I had been looking for a while but there was something that said "try this restaurant". What a great choice. All of the servers and everyone associated with the restaurant were as pleasant as could be. I felt so comfortable there. you almost got the sense that you were dining in someone's house. The food was excellent. There were three of us that went to dinner. We each had something very different, from pasta, to fish and chicken. Each of the dishes were so delicious ! Everything came out hot! No one rushed us and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic. When we move to NYC, Da Marcella will be my weekly visit. I recommend it highly!!!!!!"

  • "The food was all well prepared. Our service was top notch. We have 4 pre-teens to teens and all of us enjoyed the meal. It is very good food for the price."

  • "superb food, esp. pasta, and lovely Valmira to be the hostess and run the room. Just a wonderful dining experience, as always."

  • "I grew up eating Italian food, and have been to Italy many times. The meal at Da Marcella was absolutely delicious. The authenticity of the food was surprising. I could have been in Rome eating cacia e pepe. Friendly and attentive staff. Overall, great experience and I will definitely return to try more of the menu items."

  • "Had a very good time at Da Marcella the other night. Staff was friendly, seemed to know many of the other customers by name. Was there with my girlfriend for a romantic dinner and discovered that this restaurant seems more suitable to groups than to couples. Candles and wine were pleasant but most of the tables were meant to seat 4+ patrons and the somewhat loud (though not bad) music wasn't quite the atmosphere I was expecting. No marks off for that however, just a note. Most importantly, food was extremely good. We had the spanish octopus appetizer, ravioli, and whole sea bass; all three were excellent."

  • "Found this restaurant while walking in the east village and was able to make a reservations for later that evening, delicious food, reasonable prices, affordable wine list, loved the wild boar ragu and the Bronzino."

  • "A real find. Very good food at reasonable prices in a pricey neighborhood. Will go back."

  • "Well, if it's not a perfect Bolognese, it's close. The two best in New York are at Balloto's and at Da Marcella. The chef takes his sauce seriously. Portions are perfect. The wine list is varied and well-priced. Service was erratic; the waitress was intent upon conversing with the other staff and with the boss rather than recognizing us, providing water, and menus. When she got around to it, all went smoothly. One of our party had the Pappardelle al ragu' di cinghiale; I had a taste. It was perfection. Would we return? Of course. The place is small, with a few tables a step down from the sidewalk. It can get noisy, with the hard surfaces. The prices are very reasonable; the owner gets a neighborhood crowd. Go for the food; it is wonderful."

  • "Incredibly reasonable Italian restaurant with very good pastas that fill you up without leaving you stuffed and won't break the bank. Go for the wild boar special! Also, the Octopus appetizer was incredibly tender. I'm not sure if they were understaffed but the waitress seemed to also be the hostess and was running around a lot so our food came out before we even got our wine. Will definitely go back when in the area."

  • "Lots of energy, popular. Great Italian food. Reasonable prices for New York. This Restaurant should expand to double their business."

  • "Do you love food? This is one of those spots then...pasta is creative and al dente. Cost is so very affordable. Love the environment, but don't go when it's hot out since it will be hot inside as well. Staff is eager to please but will forget the extra requests -- balsamic vinegar, a glass of ice and so on. Is that a deal breaker? Certainly not, but asking 3-4 times to different staff should engender a faster response. This is a must spot to visit because of the affordability of well-prepared food. It's also situated on W. Houston -- just across the street is SoHo and NYU is all around."

  • "The two of us had an early dinner on a Monday evening. We shared an appetizer Bruscetta, and two salads: the Mozzarella with Roasted Red Peppers, and Red & Golden Beets Carpaccio with Endive, Arugula and fresh Feta. A pretty plate and a highlight! We don't eat meat or seafood, so we also shared our mains: Homemade Gnocchi with fresh tomato, and the absolutely-I-wanted-to-lick-my-plate ricotta and spinach ravioli with a hearty wild mushroom ragu with fresh tomato. Nom nom nom! Too stuffed to have dessert. Service was perfect. Can't wait to return on our next trip to NYC. Delicious, and incredible value for the price. Thanks Open Table for pointing us here."

  • "I had been to Da Marcella many times and loved it; but the noise level on Friday evening was unbearable; we wanted to stay and chat after our meal but had to leave and go outside to find a place to sit and talk Not sure I will return."

  • "I took two friends and my husband to dinner this week to celebrate my husband's birthday. All of us have travelled extensively in Italy and know Italian food well. Da Marcella had been recommended by knowledgeable friends as an very authentic Italian restaurant. It did not disappoint. We will definitely be returning there soon for the good food, the excellent service, and the welcoming ambience."

  • "awesome, simple and authentic italian food. Not a huge menu but at least I wasn't overwhelmed by choices. Great service by people who cared."

  • "The food was very good; the staff very pleasant and accommodating; when our table wasn't ready, we were given complimentary glasses of wine. But the service was slow and haphazard - the table was cleared and we were given dessert menus before our main course arrived, and the noise was horrific."

  • "I tried the dim sum for the weekday lunch. the food was so nice and staff is really kind. And the place is good to access the Lincoln center."

  • "We had a delicious early dinner after a long day of shopping in SoHo. We had a craving for Italian food and found Da Marcella on Open Table. The food was simple but wonderful: appetizer was burrata and prosciutto and then pasta Bolognese for the main course. The service was warm and personable. The wine was delicious. And the bill was a fraction of the price of most places in the Village. Nothing fancy, but everything was perfect for what we wanted. A good option when you want a simple but tasty Italian dinner."

  • "This restaurant is a find if you don't mind noisy. It does get kind of earsplitting load at times. However, the food is really special. We had 3 appetizers, 3 mains and 3 desserts for 4 people. Every dish was outstanding and the prices were really low for the quality and outstanding taste of the food. It got kind of hard for 4 people to talk at times, but we sure enjoyed the food. Better to go with just two because it doesn't make for a great social evening when you have trouble hearing people. Would definitely return because it was a great value with delicious food."

  • "Small excellent Italian on Houston St. on the edge of the village. Not a large menu but what they serve is superb. When the bill comes you will be pleasantly surprised. I will be returning soon."

  • "Have gone here many times for dinner. 1st class food and service at a great price! The staff is wonderful! The tall elagant hostess is amazing! One day I will ask her name! Best grilled octopus and short ribs around! Also the pasta with the wild boar ragu is out of this world! This is my first pick whenever wife and I go out for dinner and when we have out of town guest, we always take them there for dinner! No one has ever been disappointed!"

  • "Wonderful food. Patricia was attentive, even though she was basically the only server in the restaurant and the place was full. The noise was excessive at times...could barely hear conversation at our own table. Will definitely return"

  • "It remains a popular spot in the neighborhood and the quality of the food and service is still as good as the first time I visited this establishment. It's Italian food the real Italian way - simple, fresh and delicious."

  • "Warm & welcoming and as comfortable as a well-worn Henley shirt. No rushing, wonderful fried zucchini for appetizers, and for mains: perfect pastas, and crispy Cornish hen. Wallet-friendly bottles of wine, amiable ambiance, smiles all around..."

  • "I always like my visits to Da Marcella and this time was no exception. Came in a group of 4 for a round of 'gentle' food and drinks. It was a muggy evening and the temperature was a touch hot so we opted for white wine and the manager recommended bottle was a good one. We ordered the pasta with the pink sauce and pancetta (delicious), the lasagne (pretty good), the beet salad (a good balancing element) and the calamari (well made but not out of the ordinary). The desert was tiramisu and the pana cotta. Everything was above average and some things were delicious. The service was a little frenetic but pleasant. Another good evening at one of my go-to places."

  • "Food was outstanding. As a comparison, the restaurant next door was empty, and this one was packed with people. It tells the story. The food, service and ambience is so good and such good value (two mains, two desserts, two glasses alcohol) all for just over $50! They truly live up to their vision of serving great authentic food at a reasonable price. I would recommend to everyone going to NYC to head on down to the village to this tiny gem."
