A word from Da Marcella
We source all our meats from Pino's Prime Meat, located right across the street from Da Marcella since 1903, including the organic free-range chicken in our menu. All our pastas are made with the best durum wheat using the classic bronze dies that leave the surface of the pasta rough and porous to perfectly absorb our slow cooking sauces. At the same time, most of our pastas are organic and very...soon all of them will be. We believe that great food should be affordably priced.

We have a passion for good food and excellent service utilizing the best ingredients. Most importantly we have a love for food, service and quality.

Our philosophy is simple: cook with real food to create unbelievable results. Authentic food, authentic service. You deserve it.

WINE and BEER ONLY!

Da Marcella is a must try. The food is excellent. I enjoyed the chicken liver pate and the tagliatelle pasta. I had never had pate served warm before - it was delicious! And, the tagliatelle was fresh. The restaurant is small and can get quite noisy but it's a great spot.

Food was excellent, but I suggest that on hot and humid days (like this past Friday) they should close the front doors so that it's cool inside, making for a more enjoyable dining experience.

This is a fantastic restaurant that serves legitimate Old World style Italian cuisine. That said, be sure to order something alongside the pasta dish, which in Italy is more like a first course than a meal in itself. The pasta was wonderful, not drenched in sauce like many American restaurants. They even offered gluten free and whole wheat options, which is surprising given the traditional nature of the restaurant. It's small and cozy and is great for small groups (~6 people) and for romantic nights out. On top of the great food and ambiance, the price was right.

What a well kept secret, or not. I arrived at 6:30 with a reservation, all tables full, sat at the bar for 10 minutes with a wonderful glass of pinot noir. Worth the wait! Had a delicious salad, pasta bolognese just like my husband's sister-in-law, who lives in Pisa makes - wow I was transported back to that delightful meal in Italy, more wine, tiramisu, decaf cappuccino; the bill for two people was $66.00! Best meal, best price and delightful. I met the owner, who was busily working busing the meals from the kitchen. I also recommend the mediterranean sea bass, expertly deboned and served with fresh vegetables. Real Italian food with fresh ingredients for real Italian food overs. what a wonderful way to punctuate my visit to NY. Thank you

Based on other reviews on Open table I made a reservation ! I had been looking for a while but there was something that said "try this restaurant". What a great choice. All of the servers and everyone associated with the restaurant were as pleasant as could be. I felt so comfortable there. you almost got the sense that you were dining in someone's house. The food was excellent. There were three of us that went to dinner. We each had something very different, from pasta, to fish and chicken. Each of the dishes were so delicious ! Everything came out hot! No one rushed us and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic. When we move to NYC, Da Marcella will be my weekly visit. I recommend it highly!!!!!!

I grew up eating Italian food, and have been to Italy many times. The meal at Da Marcella was absolutely delicious. The authenticity of the food was surprising. Had a very good time at Da Marcella the other night. Staff was friendly, seemed to know many of the other customers by name. Was there with my girlfriend for a romantic dinner and discovered that this restaurant seems more suitable to groups than to couples. Candles and wine were pleasant but most of the tables were meant to seat 4+ patrons and the somewhat loud (though not bad) music wasn't quite the atmosphere I was expecting. No marks off for that however, just a note. Most importantly, food was extremely good. We had the spanish octopus appetizer, ravioli, and whole sea bass; all three were excellent.

  • A Perfect Bolognese ? Close.

    Dined on 7/26/2014
Well, if it's not a perfect Bolognese, it's close. The two best in New York are at Balloto's and at Da Marcella. The chef takes his sauce seriously. Portions are perfect. The wine list is varied and well-priced. Service was erratic; the waitress was intent upon conversing with the other staff and with the boss rather than recognizing us, providing water, and menus. When she got around to it, all went smoothly. One of our party had the Pappardelle al ragu' di cinghiale; I had a taste. It was perfection. Would we return? Of course. The place is small, with a few tables a step down from the sidewalk. It can get noisy, with the hard surfaces. The prices are very reasonable; the owner gets a neighborhood crowd. Go for the food; it is wonderful.

Incredibly reasonable Italian restaurant with very good pastas that fill you up without leaving you stuffed and won't break the bank. Go for the wild boar special! Also, the Octopus appetizer was incredibly tender. I'm not sure if they were understaffed but the waitress seemed to also be the hostess and was running around a lot so our food came out before we even got our wine. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Do you love food? This is one of those spots then...pasta is creative and al dente. Cost is so very affordable. Love the environment, but don't go when it's hot out since it will be hot inside as well. Staff is eager to please but will forget the extra requests -- balsamic vinegar, a glass of ice and so on. Is that a deal breaker? Certainly not, but asking 3-4 times to different staff should engender a faster response. This is a must spot to visit because of the affordability of well-prepared food. It's also situated on W. Houston -- just across the street is SoHo and NYU is all around.

The two of us had an early dinner on a Monday evening. We shared an appetizer Bruscetta, and two salads: the Mozzarella with Roasted Red Peppers, and Red & Golden Beets Carpaccio with Endive, Arugula and fresh Feta. A pretty plate and a highlight! We don't eat meat or seafood, so we also shared our mains: Homemade Gnocchi with fresh tomato, and the absolutely-I-wanted-to-lick-my-plate ricotta and spinach ravioli with a hearty wild mushroom ragu with fresh tomato. Nom nom nom! Too stuffed to have dessert. Service was perfect. Can't wait to return on our next trip to NYC. Delicious, and incredible value for the price. Thanks Open Table for pointing us here.

We had a delicious early dinner after a long day of shopping in SoHo. We had a craving for Italian food and found Da Marcella on Open Table. The food was simple but wonderful: appetizer was burrata and prosciutto and then pasta Bolognese for the main course. The service was warm and personable. The wine was delicious. And the bill was a fraction of the price of most places in the Village. Nothing fancy, but everything was perfect for what we wanted. A good option when you want a simple but tasty Italian dinner.

This restaurant is a find if you don't mind noisy. It does get kind of earsplitting load at times. However, the food is really special. We had 3 appetizers, 3 mains and 3 desserts for 4 people. Every dish was outstanding and the prices were really low for the quality and outstanding taste of the food. It got kind of hard for 4 people to talk at times, but we sure enjoyed the food. Better to go with just two because it doesn't make for a great social evening when you have trouble hearing people. Would definitely return because it was a great value with delicious food.
