A word from D Bar San Diego
The D in D Bar stands for Drinks, Dining, and Dessert.

Drinks: We have an excellent wine, beer and cocktail menu that suits all price ranges and occasions. Not to toot our own horn (toot toot), but we even have a wine made just for us called Mr. Cupcake by Charles Smith, so fun! We also have an awesome Happy Hour called Nibbles and Sips with great food and drink specials (6 days a week from 3pm-6pm).

Dining: D Bar isn't based on one particular "type" of dining. As chefs, we pull from what we personally enjoy eating. Thus, our menu is based on our childhood favorites, inspiration from travels, and just simply things we like to eat!

Dessert: Our passion and background is pastry and that is why we have our very own dessert bar! It's kind of like when you go to a sushi bar, but instead of raw fish, we have delicious desserts being made right in front of you.

  • "Considering I am a chef and past restaurateur, this place wasn't at the top of the food chain but I thoroughly enjoyed those Crue Fries and the Salmon and poached Lobster I added to the basic salad made it exceptional (Salmon was cooked at a perfect medium rare couldn't have done better myself). My girlfriend ordered the pasta and had them spice up a bit, she loved it. Desert was called the "Molten Cake Thingy That Everyone Has" which was absolutely decadent. But what I most enjoyed was our witting, enjoyably humorous with a memory to match, waiter Devin he always had a smile on his face and not one of those fake smiles. The reason for the four star rating really just has to do with not enough entrees to pick from. I would go back!!"

  • "Over three previous visits, the D Bar kitchen has gotten slower and slower in its food delivery throughput, even when the restaurant is at half or less capacity. Twenty minutes for a drink order, and forty minutes for an entree with less than half the restaurant filled, and two tables nearby also without any food for at least that long? It's now easy to see why this restaurant has lost so many customers among my circles of friends. Once, waitstaff and managers were attentive, but now it's customary to be avoided by both; service was top-notch ... now an order -- any order -- takes as long as it does. A stark difference over its opening days, and without some attention D Bar's remaining clientele may also lose their patience."

  • "I've been coming to D Bar since it opened and I'm a big fan. However, I was not crazy about the recent menu changes, in which many of the favorite dishes have been eliminated (short ribs, pork, and halibut, to name a few). I have no problem with restaurants freshening up the menu, since it's nice to see new items. However, the more substantial items were not replaced and the small plates/appetizers didn't offer a great alternative for a full meal. I had the shrimp and grits, which were pretty soupy and somewhat disappointing. We did not try the shared plates of cheese and salumi, but $25 is fairly steep for a meat and cheese board. The dessert is still good!"

  • "I have been to Dbar about 4 times now. I was slightly disappointed this time around. The carne asada appetizer had a very strange pastry-type crust that was very dense. I ordered the vegetarian plate and it was not too good. It said it had naan bread but was more like soggy focaccia and the veges were late luster. My husband had the short ribs and these were terrific. The churros are still the best item on the menu."

  • "We had brunch reservations and when we arrived there was no one up front, so we had to flag down a waiter to check in and get seated. Our coffee arrived right away and it was delicious. However, it was all downhill from there. We waited OVER ONE HOUR for our food. Our server never bothered to check in with us or explain the wait. Eventuallt we found a manager who also had no explanation for the wait time, but said she would talk to our waiter and bring our food right out. Neither of those things happened. When the food finally did arrive it was good, but not nearly good enough to make up for a total lack of service."

  • "My wife and I had dinner here on Friday and it was wonderful. We started at the bar (though, make sure to ask the bar about happy hour), then moved to our table. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. For appetizers, we had the Brussels and the corn dogs; there was barely enough room for the vegi-licious entree, but of course there was enough room for the cake and shake. All we're delicious. "

  • "Ate there a few weeks back. Love the atmosphere and openness of place. My daughter ordered the sliders which are a pretty safe bet. We also had an avocado type appetizers which was simple and delicate in its presentation. I ordered the Cod which was a disappointment. The first bite was good as it had the right miso flavor but than after a few bites it was overpowering. Almost as if marinated for too long and it became a bit too sweet. Also the skin was not curtsy at all. It had a fairly slimy and gelatinous consistency. For a close to $30 price tag customers deserve better than that. The staff is friendly but expect a casual level of service. Desserts are always fantastic here."

I was not told on the phone when making a reservation that I had to have 80 percent of my party, but the hostess was very understanding and still seated us. I am very happy with the place overall, I loved the food and the ambiance is great! I am extremely happy about the accommodations for dietary needs. However, our service was not good, our waitress was not attentive at all. She did not come to check on us and was a little rude when explaining about how they can split the check. My friends even were not happy about the service we got. Many of them had been to this place before and said they got great service, were surprised at the service we got. "

She had great recommendations for meal selections. The Manager also checked on us during our meal and told us an interesting story about how they come up with the dessert names.   • "We go to this rest. about every 4-6 weeks and most always enjoy our dinners but we've seen one thing consistent that's a bit of a worry....food coming out for all in your party in a timely manner. Example-the past two times (one brunch, one dinner) one or more of the dishes came out a full 5 min. plus later than the majority. Sorry but I don't like eating when a fellow guest is sitting there wondering "where's my food". Hope D Bar can address this and get this right soon."

Since I had been there already I didn't hesitate to make reservations. We are both foodies, and neither of us was disappointed. Love that wine is offered in half glass portions. I could enjoy my white and red all at same sitting and drive home without being impaired. :) "
