A word from D Bar San Diego
The D in D Bar stands for Drinks, Dining, and Dessert.

Drinks: We have an excellent wine, beer and cocktail menu that suits all price ranges and occasions. Not to toot our own horn (toot toot), but we even have a wine made just for us called Mr. Cupcake by Charles Smith, so fun! We also have an awesome Happy Hour called Nibbles and Sips with great food and drink specials (6 days a week from 3pm-6pm).

Dining: D Bar isn't based on one particular "type" of dining. As chefs, we pull from what we personally enjoy eating. Thus, our menu is based on our childhood favorites, inspiration from travels, and just simply things we like to eat!

Dessert: Our passion and background is pastry and that is why we have our very own dessert bar! It's kind of like when you go to a sushi bar, but instead of raw fish, we have delicious desserts being made right in front of you.

  • "the food was great and the ambience was also incredible. very open and airy"

  • "What a treat! This was my 5th time at d bar. My friend from L.A. had seen it featured on Food Network and said she wanted to go. Since I had been there already I didn't hesitate to make reservations. We are both foodies, and neither of us was disappointed. Love that wine is offered in half glass portions. I could enjoy my white and red all at same sitting and drive home without being impaired. :) "

  • "Great dinner with friends. Desserts to die for. Special treat to see owner/chef front and center, having seen him many times on Food Network."

  • "We went to D Bar for brunch this past weekend and were super impressed! Really great food (get the fried chicken and waffle sandwich- omg yum!), fabulous atmosphere, and even better desserts. We will be back here over and over again. Thanks, D Bar!"

  • "The food is always superb and their drink menu always provides great diversity. If you have a sweet tooth of any kind this is the place for your dessert cravings it takes me forever to choose a dessert because I'd like to eat them all."

  • "I saw the D Bar featured for its chicken and waffles on the Chew on TV, and was headed to San Diego the next week so decided to check it out. I actually had the sliders, not the fried chicken, which were the best sliders I have ever had. Juicy, on house made brioche with tangy aioli and "drunken onions" . Amazing! The staff was very friendly, and fun, the food was delicious and the decor and ambience were trendy and hip without being over the top. Great take on comfort food."

  • "SO...firstly we've been to D Bar many times and really love this place for the two of us and we love sharing it with friends. Such was the case this past Sat. night when dwtn friends came up to Hillcrest to try out our recommendation. The place is just a delight and I was happy to see that my reservation req. was honored and we were seated promptly. We order an app for the table, bottle of wine and 4 entries. Wine was great and well priced and the app was delicious. The issue came when two of us ordered the same thing (of which I spoke of highly) and after the first two bites realized it just wasn't so stellar. The other two loved their dinner. Told the waiter and in turn the owner came and spoke to us and gave us great satisfaction"

  • "Food was awesome and the staff was super knowledgable about the menu and was able to provide some good recommendations of what to try. Definitely an excellent place to eat at!"

  • "Sara was delightful & efficient. Found the dates lacking an acid balance as did the fish taco. But the Salmon was perfect on a salad bed the was equally great. Shrimp & Grits were terrific. But the Chocolate Souffle was truly fabulous. The decor was a little stark for my taste but who cares with the the great food. Inly downside was the manager who came to our table & sat down to bark unpleasantly at us. I'm sure this was meant to be a pleasant experience but we found her to be intrusive & coarse. I have never had a restaurant employee plunk themselves, uninvited, at my table. It left a bad taste, but I would go again in a minute & ask the server to tell that women not to bother us. FYI Lose the tin cup for the bill & return to a tray."

  • "Fantastic menu choices - all with a different twist. Everything we tried was excellent. Desserts were awesome. the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I am sure that this will become one of our regular places to dine."

  • "The food was amazing and you have to save room for dessert! You can tell they care about food presentation too which helps with the over all feel of the place. The decor is also nice and simple with great lighting."

  • "Our waiter could have been more attentive. If it was not for the shift manager the service would had been poor."

  • "I was impressed with the menu and I found the prices to be fair. We shared a Ceasar salad to start, which was a nice presentation with the baby romaine hearts but needed more flavor (i.e. dressing). We had the salmon and the pork medallions as entrees. Both were very good. Our server could have used more training, I think. Placing our used silverware onto the bare surface of the table after removing the salad plates is not the way to do it. Fresh silverware for the entree is. Our server also got lost after serving the entree, and I had to flag her down as she obliviously walked by our table to have our plates cleared away. I wanted to order dessert, but didn't want to risk getting her disappearing again, so I asked for the check."

  • "From our appetizer to desert, i can't say enough great things! You'll want to save room for desert, don't forget that! My chicken & waffle sandwich was amazing as was my daughters Mac & cheese with bacon & tempura lobster! And so much chocolate for desert! I had the trio of soufflé, beignets & baileys ice cream; to die for, really! The beignets rival cafe du monde in New Orleans! My daughter chose the chocolate cake & mini milk shake, fabulous choice! The cake was deep dark & Rick, with killer frosting! The perfect accompaniment was the malted chocolate shake! We left in a very happy food coma! Can't wait to return!!!!"

  • "Spent two weekends in a row at D Bar celebrating birthdays with 2 separate couples. Food was fantastic. You have got to try the Brussels...fab! Reservations were at 5:30, we caught the tail end of happy hour, always a plus to get a little deal on drinks and appetizers. This is a must try, even if you just come late for a bite of dessert, it will not disappoint!"

  • "From the minute you step inside you are impressed. The hostess was very nice and presentable. Our table was perfect (I don't think they even have a "bad" table). Our server was friendly and informative on the menu and cocktails, even taking the time to explain the alcohol used in the drinks. The bacon wrapped dates are a MUST try you will not be disappointed by anything on their menu. The restaurant is decorated very nice modern feel. I let our server know that it was my sister-in-law's birthday and with the dessert we ordered she handed her a birthday card signed by the staff along with the chef and bartender. I haven't been able to stop talking about every little detail of this place. You have to experience it for yourself."

  • "Great dining place overall. The food is excellent but the service could use some improvement. The place wasn't busy but It took over 30 minutes to get a simple french fry appetizer. The people at the table next to us waited even longer than that for their appetizer and they got up and left."

  • "My favorite restaurant in SD so far!! Amazing food, but the desserts win hands down. No need for a speciality dessert place when you can get a myriad of wonderfulness right after your meal at D Bar. Nothing negative to say about this place"

  • "I have eaten at DBar twice now and have enjoyed my food very much. The first time I had a pizza salad sandwich and it was very tastey. My son liked it better than the Mac & cheese. I have tried the large shrimp and grits and really enjoyed that. The desserts are unbelieveable. If you like chocolate, cake and shake will satisfy! I tried the churros and loved them with the chocolate sauce and icecream!"

  • "Kind of overrated...food was decent but the waitress seemed uninterested in helping us much even though we were drinking as well. Our THIRD drink she even got wrong even though it was the exact same as the first two we both got! I think I'll still to dessert here..."

  • "I made reservations to get dinner with my girlfriend on a weeknight before catching a movie across the street at the Landmark. It was a quiet place, with maybe a handful of people sitting in the restaurant.. The bar wasn't very busy, either. In retrospect, we probably should have sat there. Our server was pleasant and her service was good, but certainly not special. My date ordered the grilled salmon salad and I the D Bar burger. The salad was fine, no complaints. But basically the same salad with an average piece of salmon you'd expect at Applebee's maybe. The burger sounded interesting, as they mix chopped bacon with ground chuck. I ordered medium, toward medium rare, but it came back well done. Edible, but not special. I give D Bar a D+."

  • "Have been a D-Bar fan since the beginning. Keegan is a lovely person and all of the servers follow his hospitable lead. Food is great and although we were disappointed not to have the chocolate souffle on the menu, we enjoyed the Bailey's souffle and accompanying beignets and ice cream in its place. I had the braised shortrib which was tender and delicious. I'm not a grits fan, so that side not my favorite. My friend had the lobster mac and cheese and loved it. Appetizer combo (you get to pick three from the menu) was also wonderful. Altogether, a highly successful dining experience!"

  • "The service was great! The host was sweet and took us right to our table. I had asked for a round table and this restaurant doesn't have one so they called ahead and told me that they would put us at a table in the back that would accommodate 7 it was a booth and it was great! We loved our server and the food was amazing. You have to try the desserts especially the almost banana foster."

  • "Valentine's Day was our third visit to D Bar, and we went for lunch. The quality of the food, from a simple salad to a glamorous and indulgent dessert. is reliably delicious and beautifully plated. The atmosphere is airy and spacious, with beautiful cool colors, and the service is helpful without hovering. This has become a favorite on our "will return to" list."

  • "D Bar is a modern yet comfy place to dine with friends and a cute place for a date. If you sit at the bar, you will be able to watch the chefs prepare desserts which is a nice treat. The Crue fries were a generous portion and definitely enough to share. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the accompanying side dishes were equally as good. Choosing one dessert was difficult but the Cake and shake was scrumptious and came in a timely manner right after the main meal. Our server was friendly, prompt and attentive even as the restaurant started to become busy for the dinner rush. I would definitely recommend this neighborhood gem."

  • "My first time here and I came during Restaurant Week. I personally liked the overall look of the place and how it had both a drink bar and dessert bar on each side. The stars of our meals were the pork "wings" appetizer and the desserts (chocolate molten lava cake and pie spice souffle). We also loved the beginning drink for the cocktail flight (Fresca Picante). Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable. I'd definitely love to come back for their happy hour and more desserts!"

  • "I was at D Bar for lunch when it first opened and did not think much of it. So when Saturday I was looking to bring a party of 8 for dinner in the area I thought i would give it a try. To my surprise, it was much better than I was expecting. Everything we order was good and more than good. I order the short ribs and it was superb, I advise if you are going to order you either share it or be very hungry, either way it is wonderful. We also order the brussels sprouts for the table and they disappeared in seconds. Will keep this restaurant in my roster of restaurants to recommend."

  • "Truly enjoyed myself. I set up reservations for a bday dinner for myself and my boyfriend. We were seated at a comfy corner booth and had an amazing waitress (can't recall her name). The food was amazing! The best part was the birthday celebration they put together for my boyfriend. All of the wait staff signed a personalized card and the dessert that came out was made for a king! He loved it. Will def be back to taste everything on the food, wine and dessert menu. :)"
