I have dined at Cyprus probably 5-6 times over the past few years. I keep trying because so many people love it. Out of those visits, I have had a good meal probably twice and the rest of the time, including the last one, left scratching my head over the rave reviews. At our latest visit, my husband had mussels which he said were "not bad", and I had the rack of lamb chops that were totally without flavor and unevenly cooked. The waiter was wonderful and immediately removed it from our bill. The concept of focusing on different cuisines with a list of specials each week is unique, but I can't help but think they would be better off focusing on a smaller menu and perfecting those dishes. Lighting is harsh if you are facing the open kitchen.

Very disappointing. Perhaps we should have ordered entrees rather than the 5 appetizers we decided on; none were worthwhile, some were not as described in the menu. The calamari description implied a saute of squid and celery; we got an ordinary, deep-fried, breaded form. A "stuffed" squid appetizer implied squid tubes stuffed with grape leaves; it came out as breaded calamari sided by white rice stuffed grape leaves. The red drum appetizer was good, but tiny. A "whole roasted garlic" appetizer was in fact just limp garlic chives. The music was much too loud. Our server said they keep it that way because the chefs say it "inspires" them. Talk about not understanding the concept of customer orientation! Cyprus gave no reason to return.

i've been enjoying cyprus for years. nick the owner/chef is brilliant and inventive with food. his weekly international special cuisine menus are always great and don't repeat. so for either regular customers or first-timers there's a surprise cyprus opened a new location in june and after some initial settling in, the restaurant is back to its glory! also cyprus is now serving lunch!

Was disappointed in my first visit and probably won't try for a second. Part of the issue is that I'm just not that interested in the cuisine of most of the countries represented on the menus. I tried the featured oyster appetizer and the oysters just weren't good. The Italian vegetarian pasta was OK, but not great. The mango sorbet had little flavor. I was seated at a table where I was blinded by the sun. I was not offerred another table and finally had to ask for one. The server had to ask the floor manager for permission to service a customer - hhhmmmm..... The dining room does not absorb sound well and is noisy. On top of natural noise, background music was rather loud. It was quite difficult to hear our server.

The first thing we noticed when we walked into the restaurant was the noise level. Fortunately, there is a large outdoor patio (and lots of heat lamps), and the atmosphere outside was much more conducive to quiet conversation. The menu is innovative, and each week, a different country's cuisine is highlighted. When we went, the featured cuisine was Vietnamese--although other dishes were available from the regular menu. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The dim sum buns (appetizer) are not to be missed.

We had a nice visit to Highlands this past Month. Our last night we went to Cyprus. It has a international menu as well as regular one. This week was Vetietnamise - very good. The four Of us enjoyed the food. Music was a bit loud & the light strung thru- out the place were overly bright. I should have asked our waitress if they could be dimmed a bit.

Cyprus is our go to restaurant. My husband and I live in Atlanta and have made several impromptu drives up to NC -- just to eat at CYPRUS! When staying several days in Highlands, we used to try different restaurants, but always wished we had just gone back to Cyprus instead. (We don't do that anymore.) There is such a variety on the menu - one restaurant is enough for us. Cyprus is a culinary feast for the eyes, stomach, and soul - using only the freshest ingredients. You will be transported around the globe, and experience different cultures through your sense of taste. Be Brave in your menu selection - it's worth it. Although, he has taken the local "King of The Mountain" honors already; Nic is "Top Chef" in our book.

We love Cyprus but often go during the week rather than the weekend. This time we went on a Saturday night and it was packed. The noise level was high due to large groups sitting nearby which made it hard to converse at our table. During the week it is quieter, but despite the lively crowd we had a great time anyway. This is "the" hotspot restaurant in town. The service was excellent and the food very good. Three out of the four at our table loved their dinners while one was not as happy because the dish lacked flavor and was billed as a spicy dish. Everyone loved their appetizers. They made my husband's birthday extra special with a great table and a delicious birthday cake adorned with candles:)

Our first visit to Cyprus Restaurant in August 2014 was very good. The food was delicious and our server was very knowledgable. The only complaint that day was that there is no air conditioning and we were very uncomfortable. Our second dining experience there was not so enjoyable in September 2014. This time my husband chose a Vietnamese dish from that weeks Asian theme. Expecting a rich, spice-infused broth, the noodle and beef dish came immersed in a thin, watery broth. The shaved tenderloin turned out to be a ball-like glob of meat. The noodles and the vegetables were sparse. My fish was over-cooked and not what I expected....For the money our meal was a great disappointment. On a positive note.,our server was very attentive.

My wife and I went here for our anniversary. The restaurant called in advance and told me they were looking forward to our visit. When we arrived, we were offered congratulations upon sitting down at our table. We ordered the Fire Roasted Napoleon appetizer. It was incredible. The chicken mushroom and ground cherries that were in it were new to us, and delicious. Both of our entries were great. We were offered an incredible chocolate cake-like dessert to celebrate our anniversary-Outstanding. The restaurant has a vibrance and excitement to it, without feeling busy or rushed. Cypress made our celebration memorable. I'd highly recommend.

First visit to this new location. Although would recommend, noise level was very high. Outside dining area with bar very nice. Food at our table met with mixed reviews from very good to tasty but not great (I had an Asian type dish that was supposed to have grouper in it, but it was mostly very tasty rice/vegetables but with only a small amount of flaked grouper). The several appetizers we had were excellent, especially the egg plant and calamari. One guest had the mussels entree but they were tiny although tasty.

Delicious food! Tiny portions, but it is gourmet. The Lavender Icecream was the best desert of the three we tried, and the L'Americaine was the best entree, with my Chile-themed lamb dish having little lamb flavor for all of the extra stuff added (it was good, but not great). The beef tenderloin appetizer was outstanding!

Cyprus has long been our favorite Highlands restaurant. We could always count on a creative menu, fabulous food, and cozy atmosphere. Nick is one of the most creative, hard working chef-owners we have ever known. This was the first time we dined at Cyprus since the move to "the strip" in Highlands. The food remained outstanding but we were not happy about the atmosphere. We found the noise level prohibited easy table conversation. Also it was a cool evening and with the large walls open to the front of the restaurant it was uncomfortably chilly. We'll definitely go again, but next time we'll avoid peak time and dress for outdoor weather.

This evening was our first visit to Cyprus, and it was a great experience. The weather permitted them to leave the French doors open over Main St., and it gave the effect of dining outdoors without being there. Our server was a young lady from Belarus. She took great care of us by explaining some of the international dishes. The menu spans many countries and different preparations. All in all, a great experience.

New location is more conveniently located in center of town, but the ambiance has changed and not in a good way. Bright light bulbs strung from the ceiling are too bright and detract from the experience. Food has remained excellent! No notable wines on the wine list and had to send back two bottles that were bad. Still great place, but sorry to see the change.

It was very loud the night we were there. The menu was most unusual and it was difficult to find an entrée that sounded appetizing. All four of us in our party agreed. We would personally not recommend Cyprus. To have some of the items they offer would be fine - but it would have been nice to have been offered some trout or fish ....

We visited Cyprus last fall when they were in a shopping center out of town. The food was superb and the service was great. This week, we were back in Highlands, and noted that Cyprus had moved to the main street in town. I am happy to report that the food and service are just as fine as in the previous location. Cyprus is in a very nice venue with an open kitchen and tables in the kitchen and near the windows (which can open in good weather). The layout is the same as in the old location, except that there is now an outdoor dining patio and a big bar. As you enter the restaurant, you are greeted by a receptionist who explains the dinner options, and shows you a display of the food for the evening in an ice tray. Highly recommended!

Our party of 6 arrived at Cyprus on time for our 8:15 reservation but there were a number of people waiting. I am not sure how many had reservations. We asked for an outside table since it was such a beautiful night. They said we would have a table shortly. We were offered an inside table but decided to wait for one outside. Over 30 minutes later our party of 6 were crammed into a 4 top being told this was all they had. I thought "we waited this long to be seated like sardines". We had a very good waiter who was attentive and knowledgeable. But the kitchen was out of grouper which was the only fish on the menu. All of us except one enjoyed our meals.

We were told it would be a few minutes which was fine so we went to the bar. Well 15 minutes later the hostess approach us to ask if we were on the wait list. I informed her again no we had 8pm reservations. Well in listening to those waiting around us it appears reservations are not really reservations it is first come first seated. We were eventually seated at around 8:30. Had great outdoor seat. Are waiter was a good. Food was interesting. I think they were a little overwhelmed with the interest in the place, so they were a bit unorganized.

We have always loved Cyprus, and the new location has become very attractive to all! The outdoor patio is dog friendly and are the best seats in the house in nice weather. A table inside was attractive, but Nick likes to play his Jimmy Hendrix music so loud, that you cannot have a conversation with others at your table! Please Nick, tone the music to a level where we can enjoy both our friends and your music! Dinner was fantastic as always, best fish (served four different ways) in Highlands!

Cyprus was one of our top two dinners in Highlands, NC! Their regular menu offers cuisine from all over the world and then you have their special offerings which change on a weekly basis. We visited during Taste of Amsterdam . Two out of three of us chose the lamb chops and striped bass dishes, which were outstanding. The other person tried the steak off of the regular menu. All so us were thoroughly pleased with our plates. I also noticed that they have a well run wait staff. Everyone was pleasant and Olya, our waitress, greeted us with a smile that beamed "I am happy to wait on you". She's a gem:-) We will certainly visit Cyprus on our next trip to the Highlands!!!

We have gone to Cyprus every time we come and stay at our home since 1997. It was one of our favorites. We booked a reservation and came at 7:15. They put us at a small two seater table in between a table of four and two on the other side. It was uncomfortable and noisy. We asked to be seated outside. When we ordered their special after the waitress highly recommended this dish she came back to tell us they ran out of the special. I ordered lamb which was to come out medium rare and was rare also very bland. The whole experience was a disappointment. We have no intentions to go back as we have other good restaurants in Highlands.

Cypress has a revolving menu and we hadn't been before because the theme at that time wasn't that interesting to us. This time we went and loved the new location and the food. Cypress is in downtown Highlands in an upstairs space, with street level access at the rear. Part of the space is outdoors and the interior space has large open doors and windows giving it an open air feel. We all enjoyed our food and wine and would definitely come back.

Highly eclectic menu with mostly hits and a few misses. Our table was not ready until long after our reservation time, and when we were finally seated it was at perhaps the smallest, most cramped and lowest table in the restaurant. Service was alright, except for the busboy who was grabbing across the table and spilling water on us. Kind of noisy. Most food items were good, although my pork dish was flavorless and the special $13 dessert I had was like someting conceived and executed by a ten year old: a hard, overcooked pastry with an un-set "custard" the consistency of heavy cream and a few berries tossed on top - it was disgusting. We wont be rushing back.
