Diner Reviews
  • "The menu leaned toward Vietnamese preparations the night we had dinner, and everything was delicious and well presented. Since the menu changes often, what's available is the luck of the draw. But, given our experience, we would definitely make Cyprus a must whenever we visit Highlands."

  • "Still in the process of renovation and it was a little loud. The food was fantastic with a great variety of choises"

  • "Took over 2 hours to get food on table. Food was terrible. Will never return- many more excellent choices in Highlands and Cashiers."

  • "Long term customer. Fan of chef. First visit after their recent relocation. Food still great. Atmosphere has not yet "developed". Server terrible. We were very rushed."

  • "Best restaurant in the Highlands/Cashiers area, and their new location with open air dining just makes it that much better. Always an amazing experience!"

  • "The food was superb as usual. But regret to report the new location has problems with noise level, bouncing floor, open windows with shades blowing, and tables so close it was like a community conversation to both sides. And we missed the flamboyance of the food preparation area with the bar area. We will go back as the food preparation and presentation are worth any other issues."

  • "Cyprus has moved into its new location in downtown Highlands. What a hit. We were in the restaurant for 2 hours and there was never an empty table. I had a chance to talk to Nick, the owner, and he is quite happy with the new location. This restaurant will soon be Highlands hot spot of the season. Congratulations Nick!"

  • "Cyprus has recently moved to this new location, and unfortunately, has spoiled the dining experience. The food is excellent, and the diverse menu the most unusual and interesting in town. However, the dining room is very noisy, the lighting too bright and the decor unattractive. They even play loud annoying music! We escaped to the deck to dine, but as it became dark, could not see our food or the check, as there is no lighting! We requested a candle for our table, and they brought a small tealight. If they can address these problems, they will once again be our favorite Highlands restaurant."

  • "we had a delightful night with my sister last night and we lucky enough to enjoy the table in the kitchen! the food was delightful and the service spot on! it is our go to place in highlands and we love the diverse menu and ever changing specials! the new downtown location is still being updated but they are almost there and we will definitely be back! Great job Nicholas!"

  • "Obviously the move to the Main Street location has been well received. Previously it was a hidden gem known mostly to locals and their guests, but with the new location the popularity can only increase. The only concern would be for those requiring a handicap entrance that cannot negotiate the stairs and are unaware of the "back door" accessibility. Sure adjustments must be under consideration. With it's popularity for outstanding food and service, reservations are a must"

  • "Thankfully when we arrived we were able to have a table on the patio. It is extremely noisy inside. Not a good place to relax and enjoy talking with friends. We also had to ask for a tablecloth. This was a Saturday night. Thot they would automatically do that. There are other restaurants in town that provide a better atmosphere. Probably would not go back. Too bad since food was excellent."

  • "After dining at the original location for years, I was excited to try the new location. The in-town setting is fresh, youthful, energetic, creative, and the food is original and surprising. All freshh and flavorful. Can't wait to go again and will continue to try it as they complete the outside bar, and inside kitchen bar. Watching the kitchen is one of my favorite seating areas. My only concern is the the new location will make it harder to find a table now that it is easy walking distance from the main hotels in town. Congrats Nick! Terrific move."

  • "My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The menu had so many interesting dishes from all over the world that we had a hard time deciding. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the atmosphere was lovely and fun but not overly loud. Definitely recommend it!"

  • "Cyprus Restaurant has recently relocated to the center of Highlands. It is "fresh' in the best sense and for lots of reasoins. The food, the decor, the service, the ambience - all are delightful - as is the clientele. Indoor or outdoor, this is a place to try - we had an early dinner there - and most likely enjoy very much."

  • "The food was very good but be warned if don't like spicy- be sure to let them know. Was warm in restaurant- occasional breeze from open windows but could have used some ceiling fans."

  • "My son along with a group who had participated in an adventure race in highlands last weekend had such a grand recommendation that I could not wait to try it! Believe me it did not disappoint!! Our server, Dustin, did a great job of describing the menu and guided us to some of the most delicious food with flavors that left you never wanting to eat bland again!!"

  • "Food was OUTSTANDING - very creative especially with the spices - fresh and local every request accommodated and then some - still dreaming of it"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "More of everything. Some hits were local produce featured along with some old favorites. But the formerly outstanding calamari is now overly battered and undercooked. Banal brown sauce on the steak and frites needs to go, but the steak was cooked to perfection. Wild salmon was over manipulated with glaze but cooked properly. Local maker salad was dressed perfectly and was the star of the meal. Red wine standing at room temp is a real non starter in the new place, and no way to chill?"

  • "Menu has alot of unique items with flavors and dishes for all palates. Good service."

  • "2 of our tables were given away and then we were sat at one of those horrible tables where I was rubbing elbows with the table next to me. It was hot in there... no bar.. and the food was OK."

  • "Anniversary dinner...took great care of us and made the night special. We heard about issues related to opening in their new location, but our experience was great. Others around us seem to have great experiences as well. Our waiter was well trained, even better than some of our favorite places in Atlanta (we had him pick some dishes for us...nailed it). The food to value ratio was good, as well. They seated us early and were appropriately attentive throughout the night."

  • "This was my first time at Cyprus in its new location in downtown Highlands. What a great space! What a great move for them and addition to Main Street. The food was as good as ever. My friends from Chicago and Atlanta were impressed."

  • "I finally got myself to Nicks this season at their new location on Main Street. Was lucky enough to get there early enough to be seated at the bar table and had a birds eye view of the kitchen, talked with Nick, and enjoyed yet another phenomenal meal at my favorite Highlands restaurant. Very personal attention and wonderful service."

  • "Ate here last weekend. Always loved Cyprus, but being in the new location they need to work out kinks. Our server did not tell us about the specials, our cocktails were removed before we were finished, and another waiter swept by and took our unused wine glasses without looking at us and saying a word. We WERE planing to order wine. The hostess station is confusing, no one was sure where to go to check in because it wasn't right by the main stairs up. It took over an hour to get our dinner. Food was still good for the most part, but one item not as flavorful as we are accustomed to at Cyprus. Servers needed more training. Unfinished construction on the outdoor area. Too good not to work it out and succeed."

  • "We felt rushed. Food good, service good, but tried to get us out quickly so could bring in the second seating. It was very loud. We had to ask several times to have the music turned down so we could hear each other. Asked to be moved to another table away from the speakers but were told all were reserved. Shrimp served in a martini glass looked great but is difficult to eat in that presentation. Still working on the outdoor eating which will be great when finished."

  • "Cyprus might need time to iron out some kinks. Have eaten at old location several times & were impressed with authenticity & great flavors of ethnic dishes. First time at new location didn't quite meet expectations. I made mistake & showed up 15 mins. late, was told this was a problem, only 2 sittings, too late for 1st, next 1.5 hrs. later etc. BUT they showed us to a table and despite my expectation that we'd be rushed, it was a leisurely meal, no problems. So why explain all the problems when we were satisfactorily seated and served? I had the Steak & Fries: steak was fine, fries soft and not hot, overall not very French. Husband had chicken w/mango sauce - liked it a lot. We'll be back & hope to build more consistent experience."

  • "Nick continues to amaze with the best food made from the freshest ingredients. We both loved the old restaurant but the new place on main street blew us away. Nick and has staff continue to make the best food possible and the care they puts into each dish shows. We will continue to come here every time we have the opportunity and are looking forward to the return of the International menu. All of our friends and family rave Cyprus as well and we can not wait to bring more people to this restaurant. If you are looking for a place to eat exceptional food in Highlands, Cyprus is the only one that we would recommend. "

  • "This was our first time at the new location. We love it, especially the chef's table where we were seated. The Rijisttafel Chicken was delicious. I usually order off the special menus so have not tried many of the regular International entrees. This was one of the best chicken dishes I have had. Braulio (?) provided perfect service. "

  • "We were greatly disappointed with our first visit to the new Cyprus location. It was obvious that the renovations were not finished, new staff were not well trained, the overall design and table placement were poor and the ambience was chaotic. I know that Chef/Owner Nick is talented and we hope he will soon recover from this set-back."

  • "Had my reservations about Cyprus' recent move but after my first visit have to say, the vibe is great, the food as good and creative as ever and service busy but efficient. The deck is not finished yet but the open character of the inside walls allows one to enjoy the cool evening breezes of this oasis in the mountains. "

  • "This restaurant recently moved from Dillard road to Main Street, so be sure you've got the right address before you go. It is now upstairs and located in downtown highlands. The food was amazing and had the perfect amount of spice. My only suggestion is that there is no hostess so when you arrive you end up standing in the middle of the restaurant looking around for a waiter to seat you."

  • "Very disappointed in the inability to converse with the regae music and loudness. The fish was good but it had very little veggies with it and for the price, needed to be more complete. We dined with a chef who felt the same about all of this. Energy is one thing but the selection of music and the loudness of it destroyed the enjoyment for the dining for us. "

  • "The new Cyprus location is fantastic! The vibe is fun and exotic with a lovely open air feeling with the doors and windows open to the street and deck. There are still a few minor kinks being worked out since the move (which is understandable), but the food and service were great. I would highly recommend!"

  • "Our waiter was trying hard, but it was a Sunday and I think lack of staff and the fact they had just moved created a less than desirable experience. Lots of confusion about our order, drinks were not served until we had our meal, etc."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "They just opened their new location 2 days before our visit there. Main street should be a great spot. Seemed like they were 'over staffed', they kept trying to remove our plates when there was still food on them. We were disappointed they had no desserts yet...seriously, couldn't you have had a few? Our meal was enjoyable & our server Max was excellent."

  • "Cyprus is our go to choice when we want diverse cuisine from all over the world. Food is always good and service is superb. Can't wait to see the new location! Keep up the good work Nick and Christina!"

  • "This restaurant always has a nice variety of entrees. The service is great and the wine list is more than adequate and offers some nice big reds. The "Steak and Frites", a recurring entree is always good. The special Halibut fish dish with mussels was very good with a lots of flavor, although the fish was slightly overcooked. One of our guests had a dish consisting of creamed ramps and it was delicious. What really surprises me is Cypress is moving to a new location in downtown Highlands in less than 2 weeks...and their service and food stays the course even in the midst of preparing for a major move! Finally, please offer big red wine glasses to do justice to the reds on the list! Other than that, nice job as always Cypress!!!"
