Diner Reviews
  • "This was the best experience we have ever had at a restaurant! From A - Z the food, the service, the ambience was excellent. The waiter really helped us with our choices of food. We had a couple buy us a desert because it was so good. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Ceaser salad for two was great. We got the ribeye for two and was a little disappointed at the amount of fat that was on it. For a $68 steak there was way too much fat. Wine was great."

  • "Perfect for a Birthday dinner celebration! Very accommodating management. Allowed to change tables to a window table. One of the two or three best places to enjoy cocktails and dinner, in Charleston. Very expensive, but worth it."

  • "Cypress is a beautiful restaurant situated in the heart of downtown Charleston. The service was attentive and very helpful. The wine list is most impressive, and the means of delivering the list to the customer through an Ipad was quite nice. The food, while good, bordered on gimmicky and definitely didn't warrant the prices that could obtain dishes of much higher quality (probably cheaper) at many of the other restaurants in Charleston."

  • "This was our second experience with dining at Cypress. It did not disappoint and in fact raised the bar for other Charleston restaurants. We highly recommend Cypress for any occasion. Having sat in a very large but cozy booth on the second floor, we can say with certainty it's a special place to go for a romantic evening."

  • "cool scene, excellent food, great service! we had 5 people in our party and everyone was completely satisfied with their order. The tuna and salmon were amazing. The apps were equally as yummy as our entrees. We ordered three desserts to split and they were all out of this world!!"

  • "I told my son that he could choose wherever he wanted to eat for his 15th birthday and he chose Cypress. I am so glad that he made that choice. What a wonderful experience. The food was amazing, our waiter was pure joy and perfection, and the experience as a whole, was unbeatable. Thank you to Cypress for giving my son the most amazing birthday ever! We will go back for sure!"

  • "We have been going there for 10 years and this has always been one of our favorite restaurants. I always get the tuna. This time or was overlooked and had to send back. Waiter suggested the wreck fish which I didn't eat either. Turned out to be dry and chewy. Hate to see this from one of favorites. We won't be going back"

  • "Cypress is a well known spot that never disappoints. Ribeye for 2 was more than enough food."

  • "I haven't been to Cypress in a while, and was disappointed that the menu had changed substantially and that there were relatively few choices available. Because my two companions ordered the Korean beef, which they found delicious, I ordered the Smoked Salmon Wellington, which was disappointingly flavorless and quite heavy. My roasted oyster appetizers were excellent. The first floor noise level is far higher than I remembered, and my server either did not hear or failed to remember that I asked for my cocktail on the rocks and brought it neat. My friend's glass of red wine didn't arrive until he had almost finished his entree. A definite slide from my prior trips to Cypress. I wouldn't rush back, especially with an out-of-town guest."

  • "Been here often when in town. Poor menu, rushed service. Narrow sseafood selection in a coastal setting. Could not enjoy experience of dining. Thank goodness for smile and performance of those who greated and seated us on our 60th anniversary meal. Many Friday nights are horrible. Usually go during a week night when in town on business. I thank them for allowing us the be seated in our requested section."

  • "The food was divine. The ambiance looks a little dated. It's been the same since its opening. The lighting is a little corny and the dividers are cheap plastic and pipe. But Great food and wine, which is the whole point right?"

  • "Cypress is our favorite restaurant in Charleston. A visit to Charleston would not be complete without a dining experience at Cypress. The food is outstanding. They now have a separate gluten free menu available. The selections are equally as wonderful as those on the regular dining menu."

  • "This was our second visit to Cypress. The food was again excellent, and so was the service and atmosphere. Our server, Trina, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and drinks and very pleasant to deal with. Definitely a first-rate choice."

  • "The menu isn't all that great and the service was okay. Overpriced for what you get to be honest, tourist trap."

  • "The minute we sat down, we knew we were going to love this restaurant. The chairs are unbelievably comfortable and the decor was just stunning. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was great. Would definitely go back. I would like to mention that the fish dinners were a bigger hit than the steak dinner."

  • "Cypress is so much better. Food and ambience....menu with some " reaches" you just want to try... thoughtful service that truly is world class. . Now one of Charleston's " go - to's" for locals...keep this up. ... it's special."

  • "Excellent bar choices, excellent appetizers, superb main courses and remarkable desserts. All in an inviting dining room with a knowledgable and pleasant server who was quite attentive. What is there not to like? Have been to slightly better restaurants but not since we were in New York at Grammercy Tavern."

  • "My wife and I were in Charleston and had three very good dinners. Cypress stood out among the three restaurants we indulged in for dinner. 1) The ambiance, what a nicely done restaurant. The lighting, the seating...you need to go just to see the inside of this place. 2) Attention to detail. Wait staff, outstanding, not in your face and excellent for feedback. 3) If you like wine, then this is a great spot. Their selection is outstanding. 4) The timing of all dinner orders, app, salads, entrees and desserts...all timed very well. Now our experience, we shared their rack of lamb. I would suggest maybe cooked at medium, we had medium rare but the reduction and presentation enhanced the delicious taste. We had a Malbec, Luca that was great."

  • "Best meal I've had this year! Food is exquisite and the service matches (sometimes it's hard to get both). One of Charleston's best."

  • "This was a visit during the busy Memorial day weekend. Went in with wife and my 2 young children. Restaurant is awesome looking and vibrant with a lot of energy around the bar. Service was quick and almost perfect. Food was mostly good but not as we had remembered in our last visit last fall. We had the lamb-rib appetizer which was sold as the best thing on the menu tonight. What came in was ribs that were way too salty and way to fatty. Otherwise the rest of the entrées were good but none, for some reason, were exceptional. We had a visit back in the Fall and we thought they had executed a lot better. Still, this is a great restaurant and we plan on visiting again on our next visit to Charleston."

  • "We selected the restaurant as we were unfamiliar with our guests preferences for preferred cuisine but knew that they were very knowledgable of wine. The wine did not disappoint, but the food was the actual hit.......through 3 courses each our guests raved, sharing food and allowing that their meals ranked up there with the best they'd ever had...........and they had just returned to the US after a year travelling in Italy, and 2 week's anniversary trip to Paris."

  • "Our waiter was amazing and made excellent suggestions about the menu. The Lamb shoulder was one of the best things I have ever eaten. And the sauce on the tuna was something you would want to bathe in! Can't wait to go back to Charleston!"

  • "Loved the ambience-more modern touches than most of the local restaurants. My husband and I each had the crab cake appetizer. Yummy! Was going to share it, but the waitress let us know it was VERY small. Glad we each got our own-best part of the meal. Husband got the filet and definitely out-ordered me. I opted for the pork special-was good and smoky, but didn't compare to the filet. Opted to go elsewhere for dessert. Glad we tried Cypress, but we liked S.N.O.B. and Peninsula Grille much more."

  • "Cypress is rather minimalist in décor with a neutral color scheme. Most of the color comes from the lighting. But the creativity of the food is anything but minimalist. My companion had wreckfish. it is a wonderful whitefish, firm and flavorful. I chose a butternut lettuce salad and grilled lamb ribs. The salad had several different varieties of tomato and was dressed with a soft blue cheese dressing and just a bit of bacon jam. Lovely. The wine list is presented on an ipad. It was not that easy to find what we might have wanted. One more nice surprise was the dessert, a rhubarb crisp that was unique. The rhubarb was not overly sweet and was topped with an oat mixture and some ice cream. The menu is a bit pricey but it is worth it."
