Diner Reviews
  • "Cuttlefish is a beautiful looking restaurant that reimagined the space vacated by McCormick and Schmick's. I personally didn't care for the look of the raw bar with motorcycle seats but the restaurant itself is sleek and modern without seeming cold. The food we ordered was perfectly cooked and presented. I had the salmon that was served with capers and roman artichoke hearts. It was delicious and my husband has snapper that was served with a goat cheese and vegetable tart. We split an order of lighter than air gnocchi. The service provided by head waiter Gino was friendly and professional. This restaurant couldn't be better. One of the best in the Scottsdale area."

  • "I'm really torn on Cuttlefish because I thought the food was actually very good! However, the portion sizes were very small for the price. For my $34 Lemon Prawns and Lobster Ravioli dish, I literally got 3-4 prawns (albeit, large prawns) and 3 ravioli, and that's it. The sides were also very small. This is unfortunate because, again, the food was actually pretty tasty. I recommend going on Thursday night when they have a "Date Night" menu and two people can eat for $49. That's a much better value that the money we paid on a Friday night. The restaurant itself has a great, open décor. I love that they have Vespa scooters at the bar to serve as bar stools. Very cute! Service was also good."

  • "I rarely rave, but from the moment we entered Cuttlefish, we were "taken care of." We were early for dinner, 6:30, so we could enjoy jazz at Remington's. The room was airy and light with large windows and a perfect temperature: finally, a restaurant where you don't need a coat to wear over your summer dress. Our waiter called me by name at least 5 times, even tho it was our first time; it felt neighborly and intimate immediately. Pinot Grigio by the glass was excellent and the same price we've paid nearby for far lower quality. We split the CA albacore salad, which could be a fabulous lunch by itself. The sole was delicious and light, the scallops seared perfectly!. The scallops' pasta was rich enough for dessert! Loved it all!"

  • "After raring if this reataurant and chef, I was expecting more. If the chef is hoping to get James Bears awards, he has a lot of work to do. Clams were extremely gritty and the pasta was very under seasoned. The sole puttanesca had decent flavor however it was thrown on the plate like a blob. Fingerling potatoes had no seasoning. Best thing I ate was the truffles gnocchi. Server was very in attentive he had too many tables as he was the only one on. Had to ask for drinks as we'll as refills ."

  • "But that was our first and last visit. The restaurant seems confused about what it wants to be. At the door, there's an oyster bar with seats made from scooters. Seems like a fun idea but totally out of place with the rest of the decor. Also, when you're seated at an oyster bar, you might want to cozy up to your date. These scooters don't allow for that. The lighting was way too bright and most importantly, the food was totally unremarkable. If I'm being honest, I can't believe this place will last too long. There are too many other far better places to eat. It's just not good enough. I have no idea how this place made PHX mag top Italian spots, (May 2014 "Italian Food Hoods). My husband and I both had to take Pepto before bed."

  • "My friend and I dined at Cuttlefish recently and enjoyed the experience very much. The service was fantastic, as was the food. We started off with mussels and then soup and salad (I absolutely loved the soup - might be the best I've tasted!), and my friend loved the salad. The entrees were excellent (salmon and scallop dishes). By the end of the meal we had absolutely no room for dessert, but we would have loved to try it. The oyster bar is definitely worth a visit, too!!! "

  • "The food was excellent, especially the shrimp and grits. Loved the Alaskan Halibut as well! We were there Memorial Day weekend and apparently there were some staffing issues. The staff was very nice and did the best they could, but dinner still took over 2 hours. Will definitely go back again."

  • "We tried Cuttlefish during restaurant week because of the menu for the week and we had not been there before. The food was good - oysters, pasta and the desserts. Our server did the best he could but on this evening 2 of four servers did not show up. Dinner took two hours but the time passed pleasant enough. "

  • "We took our friends to try a new place in Scottsdale - Cuttlefish. Service was simple plain terrible... we waited for water, waited for wine and asked 4 times to get bread. Food was average but felt really heavy. It is an expensive restaurant and we expected so much better. For these prices you can find many much better restaurants. Our friends said the same thing. We would never go back. "

  • "Went there for restaurant week and sampled a ton of amazing dishes. Well done! Very impressed!"

  • "we were not impressed by this restaurant. the bread looked and tasted like it had been sitting under lights for too long and the prawns were breaded beyond recognition. the server did not even remark that two of us left most of our prawns on the plate. we will not be going back. one redeeming feature was the pork belly appetizer - it was outstanding and that was good since it is just about all I ate."

  • "Loved the lobster ravioli and the panna cotta. Didn't enjoy the lemon prawns that much, but found out later that we could have gotten them grilled instead of fried."

  • "We brunched here Mother's Day, it was wonderful! So looking forward to Arizona Restaurant Week menu, but were very disappointed. Appetizers (wedge salad and pork belly) were good. But we sent both main dishes back -- shrimp in lemon caper sauce and lobster ravioli was cold, and sole puttanesca was devoid of flavor. Neither had a single caper on the plate! Second time around was better, but puttanesca was still very bland (altho sole was cooked nicely). The batter on the shrimp was not great, but the lobster ravioli was quite good. Desserts were simply adequate. The chocolate mousse cake had delicious creamy frosting and mousse, but the cake was dry. The tiramisu was uneven -- lots of rum in some bites, and none at all in others."

  • "Chef and staff should be embarrassed putting out the food they did. The food did not match the description on the menu! They need to learn what a white bean ragout means, not a small handful of beans thrown on a plate. Frozen desserts, way over cooked fish and bland, bland, bland!"

  • "The service could have been better. Our waiter kept trying to hustle us to buy more items. Food was good but not exceptional."

  • "We discovered this restaurant by reading Open Table, we were looking for something different . Well this is different. It had the BEST seafood we have had in a long time. The staff were knowledgable and helpful. Plus because it was Tuesday we got 40% off our wine. We already have a reservation for next week. This is now in our top few restaurants in Scottsdale. "

  • "Went during restaurant week and had the $40 prix fixe. Oysters were delicious with blood orange mignonette and the freshest cocktail sauce I lve had. Branzino with Putannesca was incredibly light and flavorful. That being said they tried to hurry us along which is very irritating to me."

  • "This was a one and done for me. Friendly staff and neat atmosphere but I wasn't impressed with the food. Over priced small portions. I'd recommend someone to try it out but it's a been there done that place for me. "

  • "Our first time at Cuttlefish was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and very friendly. We ate from the Restaurant Week prix fixed dinner which was unique and beautifully presented. I glanced over the regular menu and would difinitely want to try some of the offerings there. My martini was perfect and those in our group of 8 that had wine were very pleased as well. Bread was delicious and the table was well cleared between courses and glasses filled as needed. "

  • "The food was great! Their Pork Belly was the best I ever had. Friendly hostess, beautiful Oyster bar with a great selection of oysters. Fun atmosphere. The fifth star should come if they can speed up their service. By far, the slowest service I have had in years in a Scottsdale restaurant. Maybe it was because of Restaurant Week, but even so, extremely slow. Fortunately, the food was good enough to make the wait worthwhile."

  • "Had a great time for restaurant week here! The food and drinks were amazing. Our waiter was great and suggested things that we should get the next time that we came in. Will definitely be back for some oysters and to try some of the items on the "normal" menu! "

  • "such great food. good people around you and it was quite busy the night we were there. we even forgave the fact that our dinners did not come out at the same time. it's just that good!"

  • "I have been to Cuttlefish for both lunch and dinner with different friends each time. Everyone has always been pleased with what they have ordered and found the service excellent."

  • "We have enjoyed the restaurant before but it has really changed. The crudo plates were gone. The lemon prawns that went with the restaurant week were terrible. They were supposed to be pan roasted but were breaded and had a strange sauce that made them soggy. It was surprisingly disappointing."

  • "Service was a bit slow and superficial. Food was okay. The beet salad and cuttlefish appetizers were excellent. The main courses were disappointing. The salmon was undercooked and the arctic bouillabaisse was lacking in flavor. The wine selections were satisfactory. All in all, an ok place but one trip was probably enough."

  • "The bread and crab cakes were good but $30 for 6 raviolies seems a lot for such small portions."

  • "Best Halibut I have ever had and that includes several trips to Alaska. The "pot pie" clam chowder was not only unique it was full of tender, tasty clams. Much more than usual in most places"

  • "We have been here before and each time I am more impressed than the time before. The fish is exceptional. The sauces are wonderful. The restaurant is very pretty and the wait staff is knowledgeable. We hadn't been here in about 6 weeks and our waiter acknowledged us as we walked in ----that was very impressive. As we were leaving another waiter that had nothing to do with us wished us a good day and used our name. This is a sign of a very classy company. We will come back time and time again."

  • "Took a friend here for her birthday. Excellent wine selection, she had a bottle of sexual chocolate which is pretty hard to find. We had oysters on the half shell, a crab luigi salad and a beet salad to start, both were delicious. For main courses we had lemon prawns with lobster ravioli, linguini nero and spaghetti with sturgeon, all were huge and delicious. The meal for 3 including 3 whiskeys and the bottle of wine was only $298, very good meal for the price."

  • "Went to Cuttlefish Saturday night and was unimpressed. Pork Belly app was tasty, but Lobster Ravioli missed the mark, the Lemon Prawns were not the best and the Mac and cheese was very bland. Not wasting time or money going back here. "

  • "The evening started slow and got slower. Took 10 minutes to get a drink order taken. We sat with finished plates until the next arrived when they pushed the dirty plates aside to make room for the next course. We had to ask for silverware and finally I just took from a vacant table. The final insult was when the bus-person grabbed my entree without asking if I was finished. Apparently the waiter thought that a charming Italian accent was sufficient to make up for his lack of attention. "

  • "Our server, Gino, made excellent suggestions. Everyone, from the hostess to the bus staff, truly seemed to enjoy their job. It makes for a very enjoyable dining experience when all the employees like it there. The food, was different and delicious. Welcome Cuttlefish to the neighborhood."

  • "We live about 25 miles North of Cuttlefish but have driven down three times on weekends for excellent dinners and a wine list with some old California favorites and some new to taste as well. Each visit, we've brought one or two couples and all have enjoyed the experience. The servers are fine but sometimes seem over worked. "
