  • "Custom Shop was a really special night out for my Girlfriend and I. The food was good, well prepared, and well presented. They have a different style menu. You have to be a open minded eater to truly enjoy it. I am a picky eater; more of a meat (beef, chicken, fish) and potatoes kind of guy. The wine list was really appetizing, and I had a hard time picking just one. The atmosphere was really amazing as well. I would recommend Custom Shop, just be prepared for a unique custom experience."

We did dinner with our daughter for her 16th birthday and were blown away by great service, consistently delicious dishes of in perfect portion sizes, and a lovely overall evening. We will definitely be going back....with friends and family."

  • "This was my second time at Customshop. It has a reputation for super fresh, locally sourced food. But what really sets them apart is what they do with it. started with a small plate of roasted beets, with super creamy mozzarella cheese, a bit of kale and a heavy dusting of pistachio bits. A great combination. For my entree I had the garganelli, a tubular pasta that was served with rabbit confit and pork belly that merged into a savory ragout. All pastas are homemade and it's delicious. They change their menus weekly based on local foods available, but I hope they keep the brioche bread pudding on the dessert menu. I split it with my dining partner and It was sinfully good. You will enjoy this inventive place."

  • "Our party of 4 shared 2 appetizers and 2 desserts and ordered an entree apiece. The food flavors were creative and delicious, esp. the shrimp ceviche and grilled octopus. Entree specials (fish) seemed smaller because the accompanying parsnip puree was doled out too sparingly. The gnocchi was good. The bread pudding and chocolate dessert were delicious. Our waiter was attentive & accommodating. After initially having difficulty getting a reservation around 7pm (at first the only available were 5:15 & 8:15, then we felt lucky to have 6:30 appear) we were puzzled by the number of empty tables during our 2 hours there. They may want to save some spots for walk-ins, but we almost didn't dine there because of the lack of availability on OT."

  • "This restaurant is our new favorite in Charlotte. It's nice to have a high end dinner w/o the stuffy atmosphere of other establishments. This place is all about the food. Cheese and charcuterie are excellent if this is your thing (we tried the wild boar salami and the proscuitto, both of which were fantastic- as was the aged Cheddar). Small plates- we tried the Cider braised pork belly (solid), scallop crudo with blood orange and jalapeno (fantastic), and the BBQ octopus. The octopus was incredibly tender was probably the best I've ever tried. Service was decent, our waiter didn't seem that interested in whether our food was cooked properly and didn't check in regularly, but did not rush us. Excellent experience"

We shared a cheese plate and each got one of the homemade pasta dishes, all of which tasted fresh. We finished the meal off with the bread pudding - one of Charlotte's best desserts!"

  • "This place is great especially before a show at Visulite. I heard great things so we decided to check it out on a Saturday night. Made a reservation no problem and staff was great. Server was attentive. We ordered some small plates. The grilled octopus was great but the "crowd favorite" spicy tuna balls were overcooked and dry. The sauces that accompanied the dishes were nothing special either. The pasta, on the other hand, was amazing. We got the black linguini. I would stick to the pasta (which the server explained the head chef makes fresh daily) next time I visit."

  • "We ordered two appetizers (the BBQ Octopus and the Tuna Crudo) both of which were good though no sign of BBQ with the Octopus. After finishing our apps, we waited a good half hour before our dinner showed up, no apology from our waitress, and my dinner of Ricotta Gnocchi was just luke warm. I was so famished I did not want to send it back and wait longer. My husband ordered the Pork Chop which was large, though not cooked to medium rare as he ordered it. We finished up and waited another 20 minutes before getting our waitress' attention to hear about dessert. We weren't up for waiting another 20 minutes for the soufflé, so unfortunately it was a very disappointing Valentine's Day dinner. Not the level of food or service we were expecting."

  • "My wife and I have eaten here so many times I've lost count. We have never had a bad experience. This night we brought our teenage son as he has been wanting to see what all the fuss is about. He wasn't disappointed. His favorites: pork belly, carpaccio, and bread pudding. The dinners are great but we usually order several small plates and a few glasses of wine and it fits us perfectly. Really, you cannot go wrong here."

  • "Don't get the quail - totally disappointing - small, way undercooked - and visually hard to digest. The waiter, engaged upfront, totally disappeared mid-meal - perhaps we shouldn't have reserved the 9:30 pm table. The table was tiny for two - and dirty dishes were not taken away as more food arrived. It feels new and experimental - and while the vibe is cool, I would only go back for a glass of wine and the cheese board!"

  • "We just moved here from NYC. Food below avg. I ordered beet salad. Beets were undercooked. My husband ordered brussels sprouts. which he cobbled together because several of the items were already out and there were three tables in the restaurant. They were grossly overly salted. Our waiter was more impressed with himself than doing his job as a waiter. We ordered the brownie soufflé at the time of ordering our dinner. He clearly forgot or the kitchen forgot because we got it late. Long after our main course was finished. No apology, nothing. Oh, and they were out of the ice cream that went with one of the two desserts offered. This place sure does have a big reputation for offering absolutely nothing in return."

  • "I would say this is the best restaurant in Charlotte. We come to Charlotte during the Panther's football season and have for the past 17 years. The menu was so interesting that it was hard to make a decision on what to try. I had the tuna meatballs and would love to get the recipe . The preparation and sauce that was served with the meatballs showed how creative and talented the chef is. I will certainly look forward to our next trip. Also fun atmosphere and great service."

  • "My gal and I visited Customshop for her birthday this week and really enjoyed our experience. The waitstaff was super friendly, fun and attentive to our needs. Through OpenTable, I notified the restaurant that we had a birthday in the party and at the end of our dinner they brought out a fantastic dessert with a single candle in it - very classy. I'd recommend this place for any date night, or even a neat Elizabeth neighborhood gem to grab drinks in a quiet atmosphere."

  • "Overall, service was very good. I ordered the black linguini pasta with shrimp and chorizo. While there was a fair portion of shrimp, i think i only found 1 small slice of chorizo. I could have sent the dish back, but getting into one of those "there is not enough ____" in my dish arguements is unpleasant and i just wanted to enjoy my night out with friends. The pasta sauce was slightly boring marinara with some spice. It was nothing special. The pasta was a bit overcooked--although i prefer my pasta more on the al dente side. My friends ordered the butternut squash ravioli and said they really enjoyed it. The bread was also delicious. Would i come here again? probably yes, but only if someone asked me to and it's not on the top of my list."

  • "The food was great. Our server wasn't on his game though. He never told us specials which we overheard the server at the table next to us describe to his table. When we finally asked if there were specials he said "oh yeah I almost forgot to tell you!" (We had already ordered by then). When he did tell us the special it sounded like he forgot to tell us half of it because we had already overheard another server describe the dish. Also our server's wine knowledge was not very good and he wasn't very descriptive of the menu when we asked. The food was good I would go again, hope the server learns the menu better for others."

  • "Have been to CS several times and this was the first time that I have come away not filling the love - on the service side. Our server stumbled through the specials, after taking 5 minutes to bring us a glass of water and do the initial table check in. Brought us the incorrect cocktails, delivered our apps and mains in a haphazard manner. Our food was great as always, but when the service is lacking it takes away from the whole experience. Still look forward to our next visit."

  • "The ambiance and visual presentation is top notch. The decor is rustic, yet classy. They know how to set the mood with dim lighting and dining by candlelight. The food is thoughtfully placed on the dishes and is picture perfect and ready to eat. I love that this place is local and rotates its menu to reflect what food is seasonal. I also like that they support area farms and add where they get their items on the bottom of their menu. It's like a win-win-win: us-them-community."

  • "The entrees were all fantastic and well prepared. We brought our wine. The service was attentive and poured the wine appropriately. We were somewhat disappointed to be charged $40 for corkage fees though (most restaurants only charge one corkage fee). The appetizers / salads were disappointing. The "bufala beet" salad was not great. The "bufala" mozzarella, which we anticipated would be soft and creamy, was a hard hunk of regular mozzarella - very unpleasant."
