  • "Felt great to arrive just as the sun was setting. Our meals were very good and left us wanting more. To top it off we enjoyed the Fried Apple desert - We are convinced that this unique desert was the best thing on the menu. We will be sure to return."

  • "Chef Donald has put together a fantastic new fall menu. A group of 4 & 2 of us ordered the Wednesday Night Lobster special. As always, it was perfectly cooked, fresh lobster, not frozen. Potatoes are wonderfully crisped on the top and buttery throughout. 2 had the Beef cheeks which were so tender, you did not use a knife at all! juicy and delicious and braised for hours. A MUST try! The most unique dish we tried was the new entree vegan plate of cauliflower, cous cous, apricot jam, cucumbers, chimichurri yogurt sauce... I just can't stop thinking about it! The cauliflower had a "chicken" like taste and feel. I am not a Vegan, but I will certainly have this dish again! We ordered as a plate to share and we are glad we tried it!"

  • "We had the most amazing evening, and have scheduled another trip to San Diego largely because of this dining experience. Everyone was as attentive as they could be (and a party of 20 showed up without reservations, so they were thrown for a surprise, but handled it nicely)."

  • "Cusp is a very nice restaurant 11 stories up, overlooking the ocean. Great service, professional and an overall great dining experience. Waitstaff was attentive, but not overbearing."

  • "We arrived at noon, per our reservation. After waiting for ten minutes, a gentleman with a baseball cap arrived. He took us past the unattended bar to a table with a lovely view. I thought that being seated by the kitchen staff was odd, but at that point, I would've followed anyone. Then, this same gentleman, not dressed like any of the other servers, announced that he'd be taking care of us. Long story short: They were out of some of their limited entree choices; we definitely saw the bottom of our "bottomless" mimosas for most of the meal; and I'm pretty sure the huevos rancheros were made with canned meat. Would've mentioned this to a manager, but the guy who kind of looked like one was apparently filling in as bartender."

  • "The view is outstanding, complete with beautiful sunsets. The food was good, but probably not anything I would remember a few months from now. Service was excellent. It is pricey. We paid more than we usually do for our celebration dinner of 4. I am not sure what we ordered that was different, but I was surprised at how big the bill was."

  • "Got a group of friends to meet at Cusp for their Wednesday night Lobster dinner. It was FANTASTIC! The view is always amazing and the food matches the view! We shared the fresh ceviche which was fantastic and a yummy flatbread. There were 6 of us and we each tried the lobster and there were no complaints. A nice size lobster with great corn on the cob and delicious potatoes. Lobster dinner for $20!! We will return! Thank you once again, chef Donald! Service is also always attentive and not overbearing at all. Thank you Jess!"

  • "For the most part it was a joyful brunch for me and my family. Awesome view! We came to this venue from a Travelzoo promotion. It was a great deal but our server wasn't familiar with how it works. She had to look at our voucher several times and insisted it was good for 2 when it was good for 4. We didn't even use up the whole value of the voucher and she said we had a balance of half of our bill. It was a little frustrating. Other than that we had a great time and she was a decent server."

  • "We love coming to Cusp and have been for the last year since we moved to San Diego. Our son loves to come to, its one of the only restaurants that we know of that he can order a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner. (His favorite!) ...and the make the jelly in house so it always changes and is always superb!!! The have alot of creative uniqueness to their menu, even more enticing to come back to try it all!!!"

  • "From its great view of La Jolla's scenic ocean setting to its excellent food and service, this restaurant is a great place to dine. It is typical of the quality that Kimpton focuses on for its hotel restaurants. Only dined there twice, so far, and both times were excellent experiences."

  • "Toasting to the view of a beautiful sunset over the Pacific isn't a bad way to start our dining experience at Cusp. The 11th floor location is wonderful. Restaurant week can sometimes be dicey, but the four of us were all very happy with our meals as well as the service. Our waiter recommended a bottle of Cabernet on special and it didn't disappoint. We'll definitely return to Cusp."

  • "This was my first time eating here. I saw the rave reviews for this place, so I just had to try it. I had the 3 course prix fixe, with the steamed mussels, the Bolognese Parpadelle, and passion fruit cake for dessert. Everything I ate was perfectly seasoned, and wonderfully made. The service was outstanding, and my waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about their menu. Top that off with a great view of the Pacific Ocean just before sunset, it was an amazing meal! I would definitely come back the next time I'm in town."

  • "Love the location on top of the Hotel La Jolla, offering panoramic views of the ocean. All tables look like they offer a view. Food was good. We started off with oysters, but our waiter could not tell us what kinds they were. We had fish for our main courses, which was good. They have a lobster special for $20! The cauliflower side was delicious, as were the apple fritters. Cocktails were good, too. However, I was shocked at how they serve sift drinks. A friend ordered a coke and it was brought in a glass stuffed to the brim with ice so barely any soda was in it. When my friend asked for a coke with no ice he was then brought a very tiny glass of coke. So bizarre that a nice place like this would be so stingy with a soft drink."

  • "As soon as I walked in the hostess greeted us so sweetly and too us to our table overlooking all of La Jolla just in time for sunset. Garret waited on us and was so nice, best waiter I've had in a long time! His recommendations were great and the food was amazing. I had the fontina stuffed chicken and my friend had the lamb burgers, both were moist and tasty. Can't wait to bring my boyfriend to enjoy the romantic view and cute little tables!"

  • "We decided to try the chef's Italian 3 course dinner special with the mixed drink pairings as we love experimental cooking. And it was mostly delicious. The open faced ravioli appetizer was actually exceptional. The chicken entrée was very good though slightly overcooked - fortunately the sides and sauce gave it enough wetness so it was quite tasty. The dessert was the only thing that was a little off. It was a delicious ice cream with doughnut holes and a lemoncello sauce. The doughnut holes were heavy and possibly overcooked and we felt something lighter along the lines of a pound cake would have worked better. The mixed drink pairings were great. On top of the great meal - the view/sunset was amazing. I would go back!"

  • "Overall a great experience, I requested a window table on opentable and got it right at sunset. The view is spectacular and I mentioned it was my GF birthday recently and they brought out a desert with a candle which was delicious (on the house!). Also had a steak that was a little tough and mentioned that to the waiter and he brought us 2 complimentary drinks (from the chef). Excellent service, good food, amazing drinks (cocktails), and awesome view!"

  • "We were entertained by the view here and provided a glass of champagne for our special occasion. However, upon arrival, we were seated next to a server station which was mirrored, reflecting the setting sun, blinding us. Why is there a mirror and why put celebrants next to a server station? We were there early enough to get the best table in the house and the place was not crowded. Unacceptable. There was a dispute observed by all, between the server who moved us and the host when we were moved. Unacceptable. The food, on the other hand, was very good from course to course (though the tasting menu is not a deal). The wine list has acceptable choices and we were pleased with our choices. The chocolate box dessert is the one to order."

  • "Nice to know Mother Nature's sensational sunsets over the ocean in La Jolla can be matched with strong service and brilliant unique taste treat dishes for a thoroughly enjoyable night out experience. Chef deserves big kudos for his kitchen offerings hat dazzle. Tough to cope with rival spectacular sunsets and views from the top 11th floor but somehow he does it."

  • "My husband and I were visiting San Diego from New Jersey and wanted to do something exciting for dinner. We found an ad for the Wednesday $20 lobster night and were really excited about the view that was advertised. It didn't disappoint. The only thing that went "wrong" was that I requested a table at the window, which turned out to be in the direct path of the sunset....We had to pull the shade down...LOL....The food was very good, and the prices were very reasonable. One outstanding part of the whole dining experience was the service.....It was phenomenal! I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special evening out....very trendy, but casual and affordable."

  • "Outstanding view of the La Jolla coast and be there for the sunset. I had the pork belly appetizer for the first time and tasted first hand what the raves are all about. Wow! Multi-layers of flavor. Loved it. The Papparadelle pasta with fennel sausage makes my mouth water just recalling the flavors of the dish. Our server, Dennis, was excellent. No wonder the Cusp is so highly recommended."

  • "This was our first time at Cusp. We loved it! We requested a table with a great view and we were right by the window where we could watch the beautiful La Jolla sunset from the 11th floor. Our server was great! The wine was half off for a bottle and the one he recommended was wonderful. The food was great from starters to entrees to dessert. We have already told others about Cusp and we will be back. We also would like to stay sometime since we love Kimpton Hotels and we are Kimpton Reward members."

  • "I'm pretty dissapointed we spent our one evening on dinner at CUSP. The view was great, service ok, but food really dissapointing. I think between the two of us we ordered 6 different items, and one of them I would eat again. Cauliflower gratin was cauliflower not fully cooked with cheese melted on top. Gnochi was tasteless. We had reservations at Whisknladle, and decided to cancel and just go here since we were staying at the hotel. Major bad decision. The flat bread did not come as advertised and should have been baked at least another 5 minutes. Also not impressed with the wine list. This seems to be a great place to take in the view and grab a drink, just not have a great dinner."

  • "Used a TravelZoo coupon for "2 entrees, fruit salad to share, and bottomless mimosas" for brunch. Entrees were fine, but the fruit salad was not the one listed on the menu, and consisted of a sad plate of wilted and dried out sliced fruit (a few strawberries, a couple small slices of melon, and almost petrified pineapple). I would be embarrassed to serve something like this to customers. Watery mimosas with less-than fresh orange juice. Will not come here again."

  • "The decor is trendy and the view is fantastic. Great anytime, lunch, sunset dinners. The bar is good sized with a great view also. Highly recommend for happy hour. Valet parking is almost a requirement, but it's only $3 when you have your valet ticket validated at the restaurant, well worth the trouble of parking."
