  • "I was first attracted to Cusp because I could get 1000 Open Table points by going there for an early meal. It was smart on their part, because I've been back and shared the word with many friends that this is one great restaurant! They've got it all: great food with a wide enough variety to interest many palates, fantastic drinks—whether wine or cocktails, delicious desserts, attentive but not cloying staff, and a fantastic view of the Pacific."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a wonderfully romantic and delicious dinner. We had a fabulous view, and the food was to die for. The staff was very attentive (almost too much) and the ambiance was nice as the restaurant wasn't overly busy until we were leaving. They went out of their way to make us feel special by leaving us a card for our anniversary. Overall a very special experience and I have already recommended them to friends."

  • "A true hidden gem of La Jolla. This resturaunt has by far one of the most scenic views in all if San Diego. The food and drinks were amazing and the service was spot on. Would reccomend to anyone who is looking for a nice eatery or that romantic evening."

  • "the food was good and the view was definitely great. however, the noise level was a little high, so it was hard to have a private conversation. i like the casual atmosphere anyway."

  • "Great view, great food, pricey but for special occasions."

  • "The views are fantastic if you score a window table (party of 2). The food ranges from ok to very good which is a shame because the lack of consistency prevents giving this a better score. In general, Kimpton notes have outstanding dining experiences ... we found this one lacking."

  • "My friend bought the Travelzoo deal for brunch for 4. We made a reservation for Sunday at 12pm on OpenTable. We arrived to Cusp to see a couple waiting at the hostess stand. I'm not sure how long they were waiting there but no one acknowledged the growing line at the front of the restaurant for at least 15 minutes. The manager walked by a few times but never went up to the line to assist anyone. Finally, after 20 minutes, the manager said "We'll be with you soon." By then, the line had grown to 5 different parties. No apologies and no direction on what we were supposed to do to get seated. People started taking matters into their own hands and just seating themselves in the dining room. We were seated 30 minutes after our res time."

  • "The only negative was the cost. It was not $29; it was about $41 plus tip. And parking was another $3. Otherwise, I'd say that it was a nice experience."

  • "The kitchen at Cusp doesn't need to be as good as it is-- The restaurant has a fantastic view of La Jolla Cove... The service is excellent... The decor unique without trying too hard-- but it *is* that good. Everything that was delivered to the table-- from the fresh ceviche to the mindblowing tomatoes & burrata (unlike any tomatoes and burrata I've seen) to easily the best pappardelle bolognese I've ever had-- was exceptional. And the bar isn't fooling around either. I enjoyed four different craft cocktails throughout the course of the evening (and sampled some of my cohorts') and each was better than the last. I was expecting decent food and drinks and a great view. What I got was one of the finest meals I've had recently. Don't delay."

  • "The view is amazing! Service was okay, but they were very quick to correct a mistake to one of our orders. Food was good."

  • "A pleasant enough experience with nice views of the Pacific. Hot room with west facing windows, shades helped with temperature. Need more air In the room. For appetizers, the ceviche was delightful. The toasted quinoa with hamachi was actually the best dish we had all night. Service was good however, this place cannot cook fish. Sea Bass was horribly overdone. We sent back and replacement dish was slightly better but still horribly over cooked. The halibut was so overlooked it resembled chicken however the seasonings made it almost acceptable. For desert, we split the crust less cheesecake with blueberries three ways. Also very acceptable. The downsides outweighed the upsides though, so we will not be back."

  • "The server forgot something we ordered and it made our night! I think it's ridiculous to expect a restaurant staff to be perfect, friendly and nice on the other hand should absolutely be expected. The staff at Cusp were amazing, they greeted us like we were regulars, put up with our thousand questions, handled the no dairy or I die request and entertained us throughout the night. Management was pitching in and running the floor (why doesn't that happen everywhere?) and I loved the kitchen open and in the center of the place. Thank you Cusp, you made my mother birthday a special night!"

  • "My wife and I always make it a point to dine here, when we are in town. Needless to say it isn't as often as we'd like, since we are from Connecticut. Food, service, atmosphere is great. "

  • "The view and overall ambiance are great, the service friendly and professional but the food has worsened in spite of the hype. I think the kitchen is badly in need of a new direction. I will not eat there until there is a change."

  • "We went to Cusp for our anniversary and had a fantastic time. When we arrived the staff had an anniversary card for us and quickly ushered us to a window table with an excellent view. The service and the food was outstanding and we had a wonderful time. We would highly recommend Cusp to anyone celebrating a special occasion or looking for a nice romantic night out."

  • "We had a combined celebration of a graduation and promotion. I couldn't have picked a better spot. View is outstanding, food was excellent and it wasn't a noisy bar scene where you couldn't hear the person next to you. Service was outstanding. Thanks for a great night."

  • "Our whole experience was great from arrival to departure. If you're a party of two, you can be seated by the window. But if you're a larger party, don't fret…the views from everywhere in the restaurant and bar are very good. The server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. If you just want a drink (cocktails or wine) and some nibbles, you'll have plenty of choices seated at either the bar or a table. The food was very good (one of us had the flat iron steak and the other had the braised short rib after sharing the shaved pear and cara cara salad…we finished with the strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla basil ice cream). To finish the evening, we watched a beautiful sunset over the ocean. We'll definitely go back!"

  • "First off our waiter was the best waiter we have had in a long time. Wish I could remember his name so I could give him the recognition he deserves. We had the first booth seat at 7:00 on May 10th, if that helps identify him. Anyways, everything was superb. My only comment would be that for those gentlemen who have a bigger appetite, they will go home hungry as the portions are small. I do feel that the prices were a little high for the portion size but so delicious. This is why the food only received 4 stars. Despite those feelings we will probably go back for another special occasion in the future."

  • "Stunning views of La Jolla Shores Beach and beautiful sunsets out over the Pacific. The menu was creative and interesting, though not executed to 100%. Our appetizers were solid, but the mains just so-so. What really let the evening down was the poor service. Our waiter was very friendly, but was not on top of the table service which kind of deflated the evening as we were out for a night with friends and were happy to keep the drinks coming, but neither the waiter nor his back seemed interested in checking if we wanted more. Overall it was just a bit of a let down, because I have had such good experiences with Kimpton restaurants in the past."

  • "We took friends here to celebrate their 40th anniversary. I had marked it on our reservation and the hostess greeted our friends with warm congratulations and a beautiful handmade card! We were shown to our table where shortly after we were seated our server brought us each a small glass of champagne. We thought this was a fun way to celebrate an event and it got the evening off to a wonderful start. The restaurant itself has a great feel-it's contemporary without being stark and cold, and upscale without being pretentious. The service was attentive and friendly but not intrusive and the food was interesting and tasty. The view was spectacular! We felt the pricing was very reasonable especially given the view-can't wait to go back!"

  • "dinner at cusp, in the Hotel LaJolla was exactly what i expected from the signature restaurant at a kimpton hotel. i have been staying at other kimpton hotels on business, once a week or so, and find their restaurants to be a combination of excellent cuisine combined with caring service, and Cusp is no different. one thing i can say of all of them is they all have an excellent way with fish dishes. i haven't gone wrong yet with this choice. while it's doubtful i'll have a business reason to be in La Jolla, they will certainly be high on my list for places to get away the next time the opportunity for that arises."

  • "What a view! Good food, good portions. Great service!"
    Dined on 4/17/2014
  • "The views are spectacular, especially if you can time it for an ocean sunset. The service was outstanding-we weren't overwhelmed with constant "bugging". The food was very good & received each course in perfect timing. We found out that they have a whole lobster special for $20 on Wednesdays (until they run out) which includes a halved lobster, corn on the cob and a potato gratin that was missing a lot of flavor. Other than the tasteless potato side, it was a very good deal. Make sure you arrive early if you want the lobster, because they run out quickly. We had the potato encrusted halibut on creme fraiche mashed potatoes-it sounds simple but the flavors were mouth-watering--& the sea bass. It was similar to a paella-DELISH!"

  • "The absolutely spectacular views and vistas of the Pacific Ocean were matched with great service and some terrific tastes. Very much on my "Return To" list."

  • "Frequently, restaurants with a view underperform when it comes to food. CUSP outperforms. The flavor combinations are quite creative and always tasty. On this visit, we particularly liked the rhubarb crisp with basil ice cream; truly excellent. A great high point is the bar, which makes excellent cocktails (even has a few "build your own" alternatives). And, yes, the view of LaJolla and the Shores is spectacular."

  • "We loved the view, loved the food and the waitstaff was wonderful. We had a large group including a 1 and a 2 1/2 year old. Given we were there early (5pm) and the place is pretty loud, it worked out wonderfully. I wasn't paranoid my kids were going to make noise and disturb other dinners. This was our favorite meal of our whole trip. Worth it for the view alone!"

  • "Cusp is my go-to spot for HH. The HH menu is always changing and so, so, so delicious! I am never disappointed. The bartenders and friendly. The view of the La Jolla beach is awesome. I always am lucky to get there for the sunset. This is a great spot for a first date - you will score major points if you take you lady/man there. I definite must. Recently, I had the Bolegnese and Lamb Burger, which were both delicious!!!"

  • "We took my daughter here for her birthday - had drinks at the bar during sunset, which was nice. They seated us at a nice booth, but there was absolutely no light on our table. We had the only table without a recessed light over it, and when I asked for more candles, they ignored my request. We could hardly read our menus and our dinner was in semi-darkness. The food was fine and the service was OK,, but there was a table of people who were very loud, so it was difficult to hear one another. I would go back at at earlier time or a weekday, but not on the weekend again. Pricy and too loud."
