Diner Reviews
  • "Starting with home-crafted drinks with Doug at the bar, fabulous dinner (Champagne grouper phenomenal) served by Marius followed by a one of a kind desert made the evening a most memorable one. Looking forward to our next visit !!!!"

  • "They strive to make their food the correct temperature and wellness. The staff are friendly and helpful. There was live music that was very pleasing too. You really need reservations since it is always packed."

  • "We stopped based on Open Table recommendation and were very pleased. Service was a little slow, but acceptable. I had the NY Sirloin which was done to a perfect medium rare, my wife had the Seared Salmon, done well, as requested."

  • "Great experience! We enjoyed the mussels, escargot, tuna special, pork tenderloin and seared salmon. All were awesome!! Can not forget the banana pudding...seriously the best I have ever had. Jesse was our waiter and he gave us great service!! Have recommended to friends already and will go back!"

  • "Started at the friendly bar for a drink with my wife; cozy table for dinner afterwards. All the personnel super friendly and knowledgeable. Food ( the special tuna appetizer, salmon and duck entrees0 was great. Bartender chose a perfect wine for us. Richard Southerland is always great on guitar...not too loud but quite enjoyable dinner music."

  • "Having been to Currents in the past, I was impressed with the increase in staff and organization. The Crab cake appetizer was great although we did notice that there seemed to be more filling than on other occasions. I am also not sure I would serve the "Wedge" with the bacon un-crumbled as it was a bit difficult to cut the bacon into smaller pieces. The bourbon Salmon was fantastic and, of course, the specialty peach drink was superb. Service was impeccable. Great experience."

  • "This was our second trip to Currents - and it was just as good as the first one. We again had Jessie as our server - excellent in every way."

  • "We frequently dine at Currents. We love their menu, food preparation, atmosphere and staff. We were disappointed in the service when it took nearly 30 minutes to get our check. We asked the waiter several times for the check. We brought some out of town guests to Currents and they had to get up in the middle of the night for their return plane trip. The lengthy time for the check preparation was frustrating and ruined an excellent meal."

  • "We went to Currents with friends and we're expecting it to be awesome based on the reviews. It was ok, but not nearly as good as we thought it would be! Our booth was uncomfortable for starters. My sangria was good, but my crab and shrimp pasta was average. Sauce just seemed kind of greasy and dripped all over the place. Not too many shrimp and the crab meat was sparse and just kind of thrown in the middle of the pasta. Our side salads were very basic and the dressing was pretty basic too. Maybe they were having an off night. At the end of our dinner we even realized that our waiter hadn't even bothered to bring us bread!! Honestly we might try it again, but it won't be at the top of our list."

  • "We have eaten at this restaurant several times and truly love to go. Usually the food is awesome and the wait staff exceptional. NOT this time. The food (two meals of the four) was at the best warm, a sea food pasta. The grouper was not done properly, not seared and flaky and also warm, however the steak was fine. The management staff adjusted the bill and made the experience better. The waiter was not as attentive as should have been expected. The food would have been sent back immediately, but the "how is everything" came as soon as the food was delivered and no one had had an opportunity to eat any. We had to have the hostess return the food to be heated. We will return and hopefully the next time it will be back to excellent."

  • "We went to Florida and decided to celebrate my wife's birthday while we vacationed since our flight home was on her birthday. She had been to Currents two months earlier and raved about it! Street parking was easy, although the restaurant was crowded. Service was excellent with Gabrielle serving us martini's and Stacey delivering our food. Both young ladies were attentive and great to talk with. We both started with escargot, which was excellent. My wife had wonderful sea bass and I had duck that was cooked perfectly. We ended sharing a chocolate chip bread pudding, yum. What a great place! They even had a signed birthday card for the birthday girl! We will visit there as our favorite place whenever we are on the gulf side of the state!"

  • "A great find in downtown Tarpon Springs. This was our 4th visit and must say the food was great again. A reasonable corking fee for those that bring their own wine."

  • "Currents is one of my wife and I favorite restaurants. Their menu is simple and straight forward. They offer nightly specials and it has an intimate feeling. White tablecloths, pleasant over the table lighting and often a musician. Noise level even with the musician is pleasant. We would highly recommend this restaurant to our friends. The wait staff are always attentive, pleasant and smiling. Great place!"

  • "Very good food and the server was top notch.won a gift certificate from Cypress Run golf course. That is the reason we went there. I had $100 certificate, had a party of 7 people so our bill was $350 with tip. We spent an extra $250 so your giving the gift certificate paid off as we love your place and will come back and refer it to our friends. I don't think that we would have gone there otherwise."

  • "I started with the crab cake appetizer. It was delicious but not as awesome as the server said it would be (it had more breading in it than she mentioned). My husband enjoyed his smoked salmon flatbread. We both had Grouper for dinner. I had the Picata and he had the Special with a citrus wine sauce. They were both excellent. We finished with the flourless chocolate cake with a raspberry coulis. It was very good. Bottles of wine are on sale on Wednesdays. $10 off when you buy an Entrée."

  • "Our server really made our dining experience special. they had a couple great specials. My wife had a white wine pasta w mussels and scallops~delicious. I enjoyed the chicken caprice. the lobster/crab bisque was the best we ever tasted. i dream of it at night. we also had specialty drinks...both wonderfully mixed. we brought our 2 11 yr old daughters. our server was wonderful keeping them happy w lots of cherries at their request. for romance, go later...8 or 9. the lights are low and the ambiance is very warm and romantic. a musiciian plays classical guitar... like angels singing. dont rush. you are welcome to sit and relax. we highly reccomend and will be back soon. ."

  • "I lovelovelove Currents! Everything about them is outstanding, the food, the service, the ambience (the décor is beautiful and inviting, the soft and lovely live background music top-notch, and the original art on the walls - superb)... I have lived in many part of the U.S. and have dined in my share of great establishments. I can truly say that Currents ranks right up there with the best. Wonderful to find such a gem tucked away in the quaint little town of Tarpon Springs. I highly recommend it to all of my friends and any out of town visitors are always treated to a meal there - it's one of the highlights of their trip."

  • "Overall enjoyable experience. Got off to a rocky start when there was a wait staff "debate" over whose table I was. Took about 10 minutes before someone ever came over even though we were sitting about 20' from the hostess stand. Once resolved we had a pleasant meal. Some good recommendations by the waitress. Decent wine. Reasonable price. Not many choices in Tarpon. I would surely go back."

  • "We've passed Currents many times in the past and now that we've finally tried the restaurant, we wonder why we waited so long and think about the bad meal we've had at other restaurants that could have been great meals at Currents. The ambiance was great from the moment we walked in. Our server, Staci, was incredible. She told us about the restaurant and how the chef incorporates the 5 food senses into each dish. We tried the brie and apple flatbread which was my second favorite bite of the night, after my peppercorn encrusted New York strip steak with orange brandy sauce, or was it the jalapeno goat cheese creamed corn. Then again, the grouper picatta was delicious too. You get the point - the food was awesome! You should go!"

  • "They were very busy and a little disorganized. Food was very good and the service was fine. The bill had a big error in the price of the grouper. We had a gift card that was a big problem for them. All in all, we'll go back."

  • "Excellent food served in a very attractive manner."

  • "The hospitality cannot be beat. I was very The decor is lovely. It's primary focal point is a dark mahogany antique bar with matching wall board that encircles the room and lifted up by white sheers and candlelight. The musician was great with a variety of musical genres at a soothing level. The menu is limited. The escargot appetizer was the best I've had. The shrimp and grits should be reconsidered. The grits were of poor consistency, it had entirely too much salt and was otherwise lacking in flavor. My salmon entree was too salty and came with white mashed potatoes. The presentation was exquisite, but the food itself was unoriginal. I know they can do better. I'll go back to give them another chance."

  • "Both my wife and I have dined at Currents 6 times during the last 12 months. We have progressively noticed a steady deterioration in service and food quality during this period.During our last visit both management and staff spent more time saying " I'm sorry" rather than doing what was needed. We had a reservation for 7:15PM arrived @ 7:10 PM and we're told that we had to wait at the bar . Although there were several empty tables for 2. At 7:30 a couple arrived and were seated immediately in one of the of the empty Tables. When I questioned the hostess why we were still waiting after 15 minutes she had no explanation . Soon there after we were seated at a table near the kitchen.8:30 pm dinner was served with lots of "Sorry"."

  • "We went to Currents for my birthday and then the other night. My boyfriend is a real snob about food (he has had a love affair with Julia Child's cookbook for many years) and raves about your food and wine so we will be coming back. Thank you...."

  • "great menu, excellent service, friendly staff. Went on Monday night. restaurant had just been painted and we were concerned about the paint smell, but the staff sauteed up some garlic and walked around the restaurant. That fixed the problem.. Bar and restaurant in same room so it could get noisy, but not when we were there."

  • "Currents is one of our favorite local restaurants. The food is consistently excellent. They have a varied menu where everyone can find a favorite dish. The service is friendly, efficient, and professional. We had dinner on Christmas Eve and the restaurant was jammed, however, the service personnel were nice, efficient, and a pleasure."

  • "It is an intimate and cozy atmosphere with hosts and wait staff that treats you like they've known you forever. They aren't afraid to recommend what they like and not worry about if its the most or least expensive item on the menu. The creamed corn on the cob was heavenly! The pork tenderloin was like filet mignon, tender and flavorful. The dessert divine and the wine list was good. Our meal was as good as it were a 5-star restaurant, but with generous portions. We had appetizers, dinner, a bottle of wine all for under $75.00 including tax and before tip. I wood recommend Currents again and again. We will be back."

  • "My wife and I dine out frequently and i would put this restaurant at the top of the list!! Everything from food to service to ambiance was absolutely Excellent. We went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better place!! I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who enjoys up scale dinning!! Also, ask for Jessie - unbelievable server!!! He knows the menu and wine/drink list in depth and can make great recommendations! They even put a happy anniversary card signed by the staff on our reserved table!!"

  • "When this restaurant first opened, it was GREAT! Food was really tasty, plenty of servers to accommodate the crowds, etc. We actually had such poor service that we stopped going for a couple of years. Went there the other night (weeknight) when some friends were in town and we didn't want to go to Tampa or Clearwater. It was fair. Food was OK, but not great and once again, our service was slow. It seems as though they just don't bring on enough servers, even though it is a busy month and Thursday seems to be a big night out during the holidays. Also, they need to hire a better chef (or a chef and not a cook). Too bad, because it is a cute place and could be really fantastic with the right management."

  • "Our group of four enjoyed the friendly wait staff and most of our entrees (meatloaf, salmon, filet, and shrimp) and wine very much. My generous serving of salmon had a salty crust that concealed a moist, medium-rare center, sandwiched between mashed potatoes below and sauteed spinach on top. Excellent flavor and visual appeal. The blue cheese and raspberry sauce coated meatloaf was a welcome change for my husband who often relies on catsup to make meatloaf edible. The filet was okay and the shrimp entree, while fresh, did not live up to its spicy-Cajun description. The live music was great! And artwork on the walls, fish mobile, big windows overlooking the street, etc. give the place style and interest. We will return!"

  • "The escargot appetizer in a cream sauce with crostini was the best I have ever had. Two of us had it and both felt the same. My NY strip steak was cooked to perfection, sliced with peppercorn sauce. Service was excellent. Musician playing a guitar softly added the right ambiance. We eat here every time we are in town and have always been pleased. People are friendly and it is truly, one of the best in the area!"
