Currant American BrasserieNice bistroThis was a nice little spot downtown - off the beaten path. The tables for two were a little to small and cramped. So, we ate at the bar and it was really great! The bartender was friendly and helpful with our choices.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and atmosphere!!!Dined pre-Opera. We were 15 minutes late due to traffic, but Currant had saved our table and made sure we were on time. Stuffed chicken breast and pork loin was excellent. Very upbeat, casual atmosphere. We will definitely dine there again!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu is creative & I loveThe menu is creative & I love that the chef goes to the farmer's market & incorporates items from there in the dishes.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been to Currant severalWe've been to Currant several times and never been disappointed. It seems the food gets better each time we come. We each tried one of their new cocktails. I had a Le Roi, which was light and not too sweet. My husband had the gimlet which was light and refreshing, with hints of basil and cucumber. Both were nice ideas for warm weather cocktails.
My onion soup was not watery or bland, but rich and complex (in addition to comforting) and the sea bass was cooked perfectly. My husband had the candied leek and goat cheese salad, which he loved, and his pork loin was moist and cooked just right, too.
The desserts were also delicious.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA+ except for serviceThe food was terrific! Excellent ambience too, and not too big. I had salmon with risotto, my wife & mother-in-law had the steak, we also had salad & soup, and chocolate mousse and ice cream for dessert. Everything was great except the service, which takes them down two notches. Very slow in taking our order, our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us. Then for dessert, that took a very long time to bring out. She brought out my coffee lickety split but it was cold by the time dessert came out so I asked for more. Also, it shouldn't take 15 minutes for dessert because the server usually should do that.
Atmosphere was very nice, very cool, well decorated. Maybe service was one-off for us, maybe you'll have better luck3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a great place to hangThis is a great place to hang out and have a few beverages and relax. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Food is excellent!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the Absinthe MindedI loved the Absinthe Minded Friday special! It was a fun unique way to spend a late evening downtown. Our reservation was honored without any issue. We had a wonderful server who explained the drink and procedures...the food was great and I tell all my friends I can't wait to go back again and try more food and drinks! Totally fun and different!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE, LOVE, LOVE Currant!LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Currant! I want them to open one in SF! I make it a point to dine here every time I visit San Diego. The food and service is fabulous. To start, check out their daily popcorn (this time I believe it was pesto and pistachio, I normally love their truffled version) and don't miss their blue crab stuffed/and lightly battered avocado which is amazing (note it's a small portion but good to share if you want to get multiple items). The salmon salad is always my favorite go-to, it's cooked perfectly.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
