Diner Reviews
  • "We went on Tuesday night and the place was pretty crowded. Food is really good and really spanish. It is one of those unusual restaurants in which they are true to the type of food they advertise. Highly recommended."

  • "Everything was fantastic! Our service was fast, knowledgeable, and friendly! We had the lamb skewers, meatballs, and Lardo Iberico. They were all great but the Lardo Iberico stood out the most. An amazing restaurant for any occasion! A must visit location!"

  • "Food was generally very good until we found a long hair on our last dish. Could happen to anyone, but it dampened the mood a bit. Restaurant was crowded w/ good diverse group. Service was not great especially considering the effort put into the food."

  • "We enjoy our trips to Curate, but it is time for some new menu items. It is getting boring. Also...tomato bread slices were quite a bit smaller than on our previous visits. We were shocked to hear white asparagus was from a can. I know they can do better."

  • "Especially enjoyed the pincho moruno and the berenjenas. Glad to be able to get a reservation."

  • "Fascinating flavor combinations and among most notable meals out in my lifetime. Upon the vey helpful advice of our waiter, Brian, we paired the fried eggplant with honey drizzle with rosemary ice cream. That was one of the most amazing taste treats I have ever had. Salty, savory, sweet, warm, crunchy, cold and creamy. Just wow!"

  • "I always make it a point to dine at Curate when in Asheville. The town has many good places to dine but Curate is a consistently great, interesting experience. Keep it up!"

  • "Barcelona stand back, what wonderful food, service and fun at Curate. Mainline the Iberico ham, eat the octopus (get 2) and the squid ink "paella" outstanding (split by your server and easy to share). Had a fantastic Manhattan and Negroni--they know how to make drinks. Stuffed red peppers should not be missed. My only sadness is that I do not live in Asheville to eat there once a week. Go to Curate!"

  • "Everything we got was delicious and we especially liked the tomatoe bread, potatoe salad, eggplant and sausage and beans."

  • "Curate has an amazing selection of fabulous tapas such as gambas al ajillo, espinacas, croquetas de pollo, and pan con tomate. It's very lively and has a bustling open kitchen facing the bar. Make a reservation and save room for the chocolate mousse."

  • "Took my daughter and her boyfriend here when they came to visit and they loved it!!!! A great place to experiment with small plates. Even though we had a reservation we had to wait a bit for the table. The hostess and staff were very attentive and went out of their way to make us happy as we waited."

  • "I loved everything about Cúrate! We arrived right at opening on a Sunday for brunch, and there was a line, but they seated us quickly. We asked our server for some recommendations since there are so many tapas to chose from, and she was very confident in pointing out 4 or 5 of the items. We selected a couple of he recommendations plus a few others and all were amazing! We noticed that different people delivered each tapa at different times, so we know we were getting everything as soon as it was ready. Overall this was one of my favorite places in Asheville, and I definitely will return many times so I can experience more of the menu. Definitely make a reservation though!"

  • "I enjoyed the restaurant and thought the food was really good but to say it's the best in Asheville, I just can't quite go there. I was in a group of 3 and we all agreed. We tried the 3 pork appetizer, the white asparagus salad, lamb with Moorish spices, the pork skirt steak, the gazpacho soup, and the shrimp and garlic. Of all the dishes, the lamb with Moorish spices and the white asparagus salad were our favorites. As to the service, our waiter was well schooled in the Spanish dishes and was competent enough. The ambience was slightly lacking. It was noisy and hard to converse. But again, the skewered lamb was great and I would go again"

  • "Food was wonderful - the trout and the sardines were as sweet and buttery as this I had in Barcelona. Fun to sit at the long bar and watch them cook. Great service. A must do in Asheville."

  • "Best meal we've enjoyed since moving to NC from SF last year. Fantastic tapas -just a few ingredients to each dish and each one shines. Notables were jamon sampler - allows for easy comparison of delicate flavors and really taste the nutty flavor of the black footed pig. Garlic and shrimp dish - subtle and complex not overpowering as we expected. Chicken croquetas - deep fried cream of chicken soup- souped up! Goat cheese stuffed peppers - YUM the goat cheese was like velvet. The best for last the roasted black footed pig "skirt steak" and saute'd mushrooms - both were simple preparations done perfectly. The roast pig was like no ham we have ever tasted before, more like a rich steak. We loved every bite!"

  • "We were 2 couples experiencing Curate for the first time. The server was extremely helpful in showing us how to choose from the many tapas selections on the menu. Being very hungry, we went a little crazy picking options and we really appreciated our server suggesting we pare down a few as the meal went on. The food was excellent and it was a memorably fun evening for us all."

  • "We are from the DC area so we are accustomed to Spanish tapas style restaurants. We were excited to try Curate because we figured it would have a southern flair. The ambience was nice. The restaurant is in downtown Asheville, which is a hip little place. The restaurant was packed with a mixed age demographic. That is where the niceties end. The service was tepid and middling. We were left for long stretches wondering where our waiter was. He forgot one of our orders, which I decided to just cancel because the thought of waiting more was too much to bare. Some of the tapas with meat was bland like the meatball and the shrimp. The service was bad. The food was edible but bland. I wouldn't go back."

  • "I was in Madrid for a week over Christmas, and just about every single thing we ordered was as good or better than its Spanish counterpart. Maybe I just got lucky, maybe its a recency effect, but I'm standing by it. I really loved the gazpacho, the croquetas de pollo, the patatas bravas, and the berenjenas la taberna (fried eggplant drizzled with honey - usually I think eggplant is boring, but this was delicious). We had a great time ordering more tapas as we went, until we were full. Delicious wine, great service, lively atmosphere, just all around a fun dining experience. Go here, you can't go wrong."

  • "This restaurant is absolutely outstanding. You can't go wrong with any of the small plate choices. They're all exquisite and unusual. Best to go with a group so you can try out many dishes."

  • "We enjoyed a totally awesome "tasting" type of meal. I lived in Spain for 20 years, so I was familiar with some of the menu items. We chose things that were new to us and loved everything - the BRANDADA was so good we can't wait to get home and try to make it - it's an silky mix of salt cod, potatoes and olive oil. We went on to have 4 other dishes accompanied by a pitcher of sangria, expertly mixed table side by our server Dane. He & the other servers worked together like a trained orchestra so that we always had a new dish arriving when we were finishing up the previous plate. I can't wait to come back to Asheville & do it again with different tapas! Enhorabuena/Congratulations to the people in charge - they've got Spain on many plates!"

  • "It was fun to try different small plates. We would recommend the lamb skewers, garlic shrimp and the red peppers stuffed with goat cheese. The deserts were the most different and quite good. Nice atmosphere and great service, however it gets costly if you need a bigger meal. Due to the expense, we'd suggest it only for lighter meals."

  • "I'm a former chef and can be a difficult customer. Here, I'd say you could order anything and have a great experience. But, order the expertly fried eggplant drizzled with honey then sprinkled with tiny pyramids of sea salt and you'll taste perfection - or the salad with compressed watermelon, OMG! You can't go wrong. It's all that good."

  • "Seriously... SO GOOD!!! :)"

  • "This was out first experience dining at Curate and it truly lived up to all the hype. This tapas restaurant is every bit as good as you could find in Spain. The food was fabulous with so many wonderful selections. Our server was knowledgable and helpful explaining items on the menu. We are eager to go back to Curate so we can try some of the other great items on the menu."

  • "Fabulous tastes across the board. Although technically Spanish, there's something here for everyone, including meats, veggies, salads, soups, and yes, nuts. Who knew eggplant could taste so good? Ask the wait staff to recommend a fish or two that you might not have tried otherwise. Go with a group to get the chance to taste mire dishes."

  • "My boyfriend, who's a chef, and I are super foodies and we had the best experience here! We ordered 8 menu items and were blown away by all of them!!! The server we had was amazing as well, very informative and just kept the plates and drinks flowing! The restaurant itself was really cool inside, super busy the whole time we were there and had such a great atmosphere! Beautifully decorated and the layout of the restaurant is so cool! Be sure to make a reservation because this place did not slow down! We will definitely come back next time we're in town!!! Everyone must eat here!"

  • "Being a foodie, this place was perfect. The portion size is small but it allows you to try many different tapas. The fred chicken bites were addictive and so were the shrimp tapas. The service was prompt and very happy to help you choose which tapas to order. The creme Carmel dessert was wonderful, should have ordered 3 more if I hadn't ate so much. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Please order the eggplant appetizer! OMG, it is the best. We couldn't stop with one for our table, and fought over how to share the second. Every dish we ordered was delicious, and that's what we have come to expect from Curate. Group of visitors with two locals, and the out-of-towneers swooned. I love it for brunch too."

  • "The food was delicious, our server was very helpful and organized our tapas in the perfect order, delivering only one at a time. I would highly recommend this great place"

  • "Our group of 4 friends chose the restaurant because of our varied dietary needs and seeing the well-labeled menu (gluten free, lactose free, vegan, etc.) online. The wait staff was also very careful to understand our dietary needs. Beyond that - well, the food was varied, exquisite, delicate, rich. Each dish was perfectly prepared and presented - beautiful to the eye and to the palate. What a rare treat to have such a consistently perfect meal - from little things like keeping the water filled to the pacing of the dishes being brought out to the extremely friendly and competent service. We're now looking for excuses to go back ASAP! (Only the 1-hour drive from our town is keeping us away!)"
