Diner Reviews
  • "We went here to check out what we have heard friends talk about. We were not disappointed. Had 7PM Res. walked in and taken immediately to our table. Erin was our server and she was outstanding. knowledgeable without be pretentious. Menu is very hard to read and a bit cluttered. We had Sangria which was mixed at the table, nice touch. Went on to Fried Marcona Almonds and Tomato with toasted bread and cheese. Excellent! On to Cheese Display of assorted goat cheeses and a Spanish Meat board! Excellent! White Asparugus with housemade may, Fried Chorizo wrapped in Potato was crazy good. We had lots more and it was all very good. Catalan desserts were outstanding as well"

  • "Our server: surly, unfriendly, curt, short, brusque, ill-natured. While the food was the best part of the experience, it was difficult to appreciate thanks to our server and to the noise level from the kitchen -- and from our dish-banging server -- that was way too loud and irritating at best. We were a party of four and we all feel the same way."

  • "Unable to arrange dinner reservations so made res for late (2pm) lunch. Food was fresh and delicious. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and just plain pleasant. Will plan better next visit to try dinner!"

  • "Curate is the restaurant for all to follow…great food from a masterful chef, the best staff and service on the planet, fantastic energy and killer wines! It is my home away from home..."

  • "Took friends and sat at the curve of the bar so we could watch all the staff. Had a two hour lunch with two pitchers of Sangria and ten different tapas with everything we like including the pork skirt and garlic shrimp. Topped with the dessert of the day. Wonderful, wonderful."

  • "All of the components of a dining experience come together when you dine at Curate. Imagine this - 5 seasoned guys all in the food and beverage management business tear it up the first night whilst in the mountains and after knocking down two pots of coffee, a pound of bacon, a few bagels with a side of salmon and a dozen eggs, drive to Curate. (Hugh?) the server never once questioned our need for Cokes or a Crown and Coke prior to the nice sparking Rose that we ordered later. He understood the need for grease intake. The food speaks for itself. Perfection. We all pondered how to take their philosophy back. Smart branding everywhere. Do we take the pig with toothpicks or not? Where are we again? Katie Button and staff rule!"

  • "We went with a group of friends. The service, food and wine were excellent. The place was still hopping at 10:00 pm. We loved the whole experience and will return on our next visit."

  • "We had dinner with friends on 7/24/14 and Maggie was our outstanding waitress! The absolute best restaurant we have experienced in years. Flawless in all aspects. If you are in Asheville, don't miss the experience. The Sangria is made table side and was superb. Kudos to the Curate team!"

  • "Our waiter was welcoming and knowledgeable; orders were built up in a crescendo of gustatory delight. Wines were paired differently according to our specific likes. Bravo on all accounts- much less expensive than a trip to Spain."

  • "This restaurant is alive and bustling! With everything going on it still feels cozy and comfortable. The food was amazing! Since it is a tapas restaurant we had a lot of fun trying many dishes….olives, ham sampler, lamb skewers, chicken croquettes, chorizo, manchego cheese, etc. The dish that stood out the most was the Iberian pork. It was so tender and delicious. A definite must if you dine here. We had the red sangria which was dry, but full of flavor. The service is superb!"

  • "I was born and raised in Spain, so I have a high bar for Spanish food. Curate almost brought me to tears with their authentic tastes. I was flooded with memories of many memorable tapas nights, and it has now become my favorite restaurant in a town of incredible restaurants."

  • "There are a lot of great restaurants in Asheville. My bucket list is to try them all. Curate is one I will go back to overe and over. I will take out of town company there and I will recommend it! Absolutely fabulous. We were there at a quite time on a Sunday about 3, so I did not see it at dinner. Our waitress was informative, attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "Second visit here. Had brunch. Luscious food, very good (professional, smooth, friendly) service. If you are a foodie, love tapas, this is for you!"

  • "We've been to Cúrate a number of times and always enjoy it. Given the quality, the prices are reasonable. The menu doesn't change much, though there are a few specials daily. We love the Iberian ham selection, the gazpacho, the amazing olives (just $4) and the honey-drizzled eggplant. We don't care for the chicken fritters or patatas bravas (Zambra's version is far better). Most of the restaurant has a very high noise level, but the alcove in the back is quieter. Advance reservations essential. Service is usually excellent. We are less enthralled with the new Nightbell, around the corner on S. Lexington, run by the Cúrate folks. Nightbell started as an upscale lounge but apparently didn't do that well and has now evolved into a restaurant."

  • "I have had two of the most incredible meals I've ever had anywhere on the planet at Curate. This third time, I was expecting another stellar experience. The service was once again wonderful. The drinks were lovely. But I made reservations 2 1/2 weeks before and was only given 5:30 and 9 p.m. options. We cut our day in Asheville short to make it there by 5:30. We were seated at a nice table by a window in the back but for more than an hour, at least 8 tables around us sat empty. That being the case, I felt we should have gotten at least a 6:30 reservation. Most of the food this time was good but not outstanding as before & the potato/onion omelet recommended was tasteless. Would still recommend Curate but...maybe the chef was on vacation?"

  • "This was our first time to Asheville and Curate. We had a reservation thru OpenTable and were seated promptly in a lovely spot (not always the case at some establishments). The server was attentive, warm, helpful and did an outstanding job. The tapas were AMAZING. It was no surprise given the freshness of the food and awesome presentation. We will definitely go back. It looked like fun to return and sit at the bar and observe the staff preparing the many delights they turn out. A definite GEM!"

  • "Curate was a our favorite food adventure while in Asheville. Loved all the dishes, but especially enjoyed the eggplant - a perfect combination of sweet and salty - not too much of either."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The menu is too wordy and its layout is difficult to read/navigate. Several of the dishes seem overpriced. The pan con tomate - bread with tomato sauce and manchego cheese - good, but for $7 it seemed like a slice of pizza at my local pizza place tastes better, is a larger serving, and costs less. Maybe this restaurant is trying too hard to be sophisticated instead of just having excellent food that speaks for itself."

  • "Probably ordered the wrong things, but was expecting a LOT since this was rated #1 on TripAdvisor. The environment was amazing, but the food was just okay."

  • "Even as a person that doesn't eat pork and shellfish, this Spanish-style tapas place has plenty for the foodie. Delicious dishes, well prepared. Friendly service."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Very good with a wide variety of tapas plates; all well prepared. The water asked if we wanted some more bread to soak up the garlic sauce in a shrimp dish. I was sunned to see a $1 charge on the bill for the additional bread. On a $100+ bill this cheapened the experience."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Curate is in a great location in Asheville for a bar; the food is very good, but the small plates are VERY small"
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Our recent dinner did not wow us like our first visit had. Curate is an excellent tapas restaurant but maybe this time we were in the mood for a complete meal and not just small bites. My husband thought the hams and cheeses were excellent and I really liked the veggie offerings."

  • "His knowledge and explanation of the foods and his offer to select a variety of plates for us was spot on. The food was delicious and the presentations were spectacular!"

  • "We were unable to get dinner reservations during our stay in Asheville, so we opted for lunch. The food was very good, although as tapas is normally served...in tiny amounts. We shared a tiny bowl of delicious gazpacho which was pureed. We also had a couple of other dishes we recommend: escalivada con anchoas (roasted red peppers, onion and eggplant with enchovies) and setas al jerez (sauted mushrooms). There was one dish that was mediocre: chistorra con pure de patatas (grilled chorizo with potato puree). I just had iced tea, my hubby had a Cuba Libre cocktail. Tiny amounts of deliciousness for a healthy check ($51, not including tip)."

  • "First our server Maggie was excellent, never obtrusive but always around when needed and very knowledgable about the menu. The food is presented very simply with each dish prepared excellently. We particularly liked the lamb skewers, the octopus and the garlic shrimp. The only down side is as in many asheville restaurants to small and too loud. However next time will go for lunch as the menu is the same and I'm told its a little slower."

  • "We had reservations and were seated after a very short wait at the bar. Service was much better at the beginning. The crowds were continuous so our waiter was extremely busy. Overall, a nice visit but nothing outstanding except the dessert made of chocolate cup with nuts and cherries."

  • "My husband and I had dinner after booking a last minute reservation at Open Table. The menu had a wide selection of tapas. Each was prepared with care, and the flavor combinations were interesting and tasty. We had about six or seven between us plus a delicious gazpacho. The place was bustling but service was excellent - the waiter paced our service so that we were able to enjoy one or two plates at a time. The popular items - the shrimp and eggplant dishes - were great, as were the rest. Highly recommended."
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "Come and enjoy some tapas! The fried eggplant is amazing, lamb skewers are perfectly seasoned and go well with the goat cheese stuffed peppers. The ultimate gin and tonic is beautiful and the wine was delicious. Go and you will definitely enjoy!"

  • "We drove our sons to summer camp near Asheville and began our parents only vacation at this amazing venue in downtown Asheville. We found this authentic Spanish tapas restaurant on Trip Advisor and were extremely impressed with everything from the decor to the exclusively Spanish label wine list! Favorite tapas included the table de jamon, pulpo (sautéed octopus)- the best we have ever eaten, and the flash fried eggplant drizzled in honey. The garlic shrimp entree is listed as the top choice of locals although we considered it a bit overwhelming with garlic. Sangria made table side made the experience complete! We will definitely return on our next visit to Asheville."

  • "My husband and I shared 6 tapas and it was just the right amount. The tortilla espanola was ok. Not the best I've ever had. Enjoyed the olives. The shrimp were delicious. The meat balls were ok but we could have done without them. We had a custard dessert with some brickle on top and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Our server was not very friendly. He seemed to be in a hurry and in a bad mood. It put a damper on our evening but we tried to just focus on the yummy food and our time together and not let his mood affect us. I would definitely go back and hopefully we would have better service."

  • "We're local and had heard great things about Curate, so when our daughter and son came to visit (from London and Boston, respectively) we booked a table for 6. Our waiter, Brian, was knowledgable, friendly, and attentive. We selected a few "must try" items from the tapas menu and then asked him to "make us happy" and he did just that. Everything was memorable -- jamon iberico, incredibly tender octopus, mushrooms sautee'd in sherry and thyme, ... the items kept coming each sized perfectly for all six of us to get a satisfying, exquisite mouthful. Two pitchers of Curate's signature sangria dry, perfectly spiced and laced with cognac, went beautifully with all the items. Plan to book 3 weeks in advance for weekend nights in summer."
