A word from Cupping Room Cafe
The Cupping Room Café was established in 1977. It was originally a wholesale coffee establishment. Different blends of coffee were brewed and tasted by perspective customers. This act of blending and tasting different coffees is called cupping - hence the name The Cupping Room. The coffee tasting went so well that the owners decided to change the name from The Coffee Connection to The Cupping Room Café. They also decided to open the back of the store and sell coffee and pie to the local artists. The building hosting The Cupping Room is a landmark building. It was the first "tall" building in SoHo and is more than 100 years old. The high tin ceilings, hard wood floors, pot-belly stove and exposed brick walls are all part of the original setting. The Cupping Room was a home for artists and locals. Today it is still a neighborhood place where you can see the locals and the famous come together in our homey environment.Continued

  • "Good choice on the menu even for gluten free, great to be able to eat waffles or pancakes for once. Lovely atmosphere and good service. So good we went back. Milkshakes are fab!"

  • "We went here with a group of 6 and had a really great time, food was great, minus the dessert as they didn't have the carrot cake and brought us a substitute which we didn't like, but all in all a great experience :)"

  • "The food is excellent, eclectic American fare. Excellent bar, limited but good and reasonable wine list. The main attraction on a Saturday night is the excellent jazz band; they are great musicians (singer, guitar, trumpet, drums and bass) and play several jazz standards."

  • "This was an excellent brunch choice for a group of 4. Everyone had something they wanted and the mimosas were fresh and tasty. The portions are big and filling, so be warned! I would definitely come back here."

  • "Good was absolutely amazing and fresh! Was disappointed about the service. Forgt many drink refills, orders can out incomplete and missing items and at different times. When asked the waiter to go get the food they forgot again and had to flag down other waiters. Just seemed overhelmed in general! Great food though!"

  • "Great brunch spot. The only issue we had was that the table for two was too small for our plates and required a bit of maneuvering. Overall we really enjoyed and will visit again."

  • "This was my first time to be at Cupping Room Cafe. As I was very stressed out at work this week, I took a day off and I booked this place for a lunch for my lovery SoHo shopping day. I know this place is very busy and packed for a brunch on the weekend, but the place was not that busy today, Friday. I liked their deco and atmosphere and my waiter provided me with very good service. And I enjoyed Smoked Salmon & Scalion omlet :) I want to go back there with my friends for weekend brunch or drinks at night soon."

  • "so i was in town from miami. walked here in the cold, with my 2 year old in an ergo carrier. needless to say, i was exhausted by the time i got there. the people were so sweet. gave me a table out of the way so we had all the space we wanted. the best service i've had in years. never had to ask for water or bread or anything. the food was very good. the babba ganoush or however you spell it sorry! is the best i've ever had. the little pitas were toasted. i took some to the hotel for my hubby. they had a band going etc, but we were able to sit away. it was so great that we went back for breakfast. even more delicious. full of very cool but friendly people. i wish this place was in miami."

  • "The manager should be ashamed, had to ask for the waitperson to take our order, for coffee and for the check. Other ppl seemed to have the same problem. Oh and the eggs Benedict was over cooked too, sorry this restaurant failed in so many ways, I was very excited to try it too,"

  • "i had french toast. For 15.00 it was very good. it was supposed to be brioche french toast and it wasn't. I would not go there again,"

  • "Friendly wait staff while being understaffed. Excellent eggs benedict. Only issue was they sat a group with kids next to us and the parents were oblivious to their little kids who were monsters. Its okay I have kids so I can say that. Not restaurants fault but ugh find a space and keep them all together. Not great for our romantic weekend away without our kids."

  • "There's nothing like a wonderful breakfast and the Cupping Room Cafe is excellent in every aspect. A party of three dined for breakfast a couple of days while staying in the area. Fresh food, great Viennese coffee, and a smiling, attentive, and helpful staff makes the Cupping Room Cafe a place I will keep top of mind forever."

  • "We went here for dinner last week having had a nice brunch a few months earlier. I really love the Cupping Room. The menu has a nice variety; something for everyone. The atmosphere is pleasant. The prices are fine for New York. Order the hummus and the pita to start; I couldn't make up my mind what to order so I ordered the fruit and cheese plate which was excellent and the chicken quesadilla which didn't thrill me-my son liked it; Other son always orders the burger; Husband had a steak; The soups looked good. When I get back to New York (which we do now that son lives in the Village) I will go back-probably for brunch which is amazingly tasty! This is a nice place to meet; talk and just feel comfortable."

  • "Went to the Cupping Room for brunch this weekend after a long time. I used to come here quite often and always had a great experience. Some friends were in town who used to live in NYC, so we thought this would be a nostalgic place for brunch. While we had a to wait for a bit for our table, the service ended up being great and the food, usual was tasty. They even let us hang out at the table for a while after we had finished instead of pushing us out for the next seating."

  • "We bring our out of town friends for the stuffed french toast and the Eggs Benedict. The crowd is never disappointed. This trip our table was ready promptly and the service was sharp. We were able to get out in time to have an hour to kill before the our plans kicked into high gear. Thanks again for a wonderful time."

  • "A standard variety of good quality brunch fare but lacking any true creativity. Eggs, omelets, pancakes, waffles, etc. Had a nice whole wheat waffle with berries and poached eggs. The eggs were overcooked so make sure that you place emphasis on your preference. Service is erratic and slow but friendly. Have coffee before entering as the refills are difficult to come by. The waitstaff are overwhelmed by the sheer volume and there are not enough of them to properly service this crowd. 23 bucks w/o tip for a waffle and an egg is a little steep even for this part of Manhattan. Nice family crowd and warm atmosphere."

  • "Great spot - love the music, the staff and the food! Well done. Only criticism would be it would be great to have gluten free bread for coeliacs like me as gets tiring always having omelettes for brunch. Thanks"
