Diner Reviews
  • "Can you imagine a Yankee eating Chicken Fried Lobster? Well I did and it was great. We had a wonderful birthday dinner evening!"

  • "My husband and I visit Culpeppers for the first time, we really enjoyed it. The only thing i did not like, walking up to the entrance there were staff outside smoking and could smell it until i walked inside. For the restaurant to be of such quality $$, this did not look good. Yes we are non smokers, so this was important to us. Especially, celebrating such an occasion to us and then had to watch them continue through the window where we sat, anyways food was great and service as well. Thank you Suggestion, maybe move your smoking area far out in the parking lot."

  • "I was looking for a romantic restaurant for a rare date night with my husband. We made reservations a few days before our dining experience. Our table was next to the entrance to the kitchen which was very disappointing and in the middle of the aisle. Not romantic at all! The restaurant was not crowded so there were many nicer areas to be seated. The hostess and waiter were friendly but nothing over the top to really make you feel welcome. The food was tasty and warm when we received our meal. I cannot say for sure if we will ever dine here again."

  • "From start to finish, everything was perfect. Great live music in the lounge, our server was very helpful and attentive. Chef Chad even came out to talk to us for a while. Don't forget to tip the kitchen, they are working hard to prepare wonderful meals, and it shows."

  • "We loved our food. There was so much to choose from on the menu, it was a difficult choice. The service, however was only fair. My husband's drink came after our appetizer and with our entrees. He had to remind the waitress to bring it. The waitress completely forgot to put in the order for his side. She did eventually order it and did not charge us. We thought she had too many tables to be truly attentive and efficient."

  • "The place was a little to loud for the money paid out. Shut off the country music, or just turn it down to a reasonable level."

  • "Went here for Valentine's day, had a pretty good time. Wish I had gotten my server's name so I could request him again, for such a busy night, he did very well. Food was good and the business seemed like it was ran rather proficiently. Had a delicious filet mignon."

  • "We were seated on a small 2 top but asked for a larger table and they switched us quickly. Our waitress was very personable and made us feel comfortable. The prime rib was good but not great. I have had better. If it melts in your month tender it's fantastic. This one was a little stringy. My wife loved the surf n turf. The chicken fried lobster is delicious. Overall good experience and we will return."

  • "The "blackened shrimp and scallop" were blackened because they were burnt. The filet mignon was , at best, mediocre. We have had MUCH better food at Saltgrass Steakhouse for less than half the cost. Will not be going back to Culpeppers ever again."

  • "On what I am sure is one of the busiest of the year, Valentines Day, everything was just perfect, from start to finish. As good as any of the Uptown restaurants, but just minutes from home. The management cares about the food and service, and it shows. Don't forget to tip the kitchen staff too, as they are doing an amazing job. The bar area is nice too, comfortable seating and great entertainment on weekends."

  • "This was a special occasion and reservations were made on line with those specific notes. They didn't deliver. Requested a quiet place away from large parties and children. I even discussed my requests with the hostess upon arrival. We were seated next to 2 large & very noisy groups. Our waiter was less responsive than in the past & our food was not hot when it arrived. Steaks were not hot nor were the baked potatoes."

  • "Good food and service, but a bit pricey for your everyday steakhouse."

  • "This was our first time at Culpepper. It was really good! We have lived in the area for years but never took time to check the place out. Our waiter, Nate, was great and the good was delicious. We will be back!"

  • "We have been going to Culpepper's since the mid 80s when it was a small town restaurant serving ribs and chicken fried steak. We liked the former so much better than the current version of the restaurant but continue to stop in from time to time to see if things have changed. Unfortunately, the decor and the service is the same it has always been. It was much better as a moderately priced casual setting. Today's Culpepper's has a pricy menu and the service and ambiance of casual dining. I hate to pay $300 for a Saltgrass Steakhouse experience. The disappointment begins with the hostess and continues with server. They are not bad just not up to the fine dining experience. Next time we will make the drive to Del Frisco's or Chamberlains."

  • "I can't usually afford meanst this price level, but it was a special holiday meal with my so in town for Christmas. Was very special. Ordered a bottle of wine, appetizer, salads, entrees and Irish whisky. Everything was wonderful including the service."

  • "This was the first visit for my wife and I. Was perfect for celebration of 29th anniversary. Was pretty much what I had requested through Open Table. Seating was perfect and was given adequate attention to our needs. The only slip was the flower I ordered was not already on the table such as I have had on previous reservations however the manager quickly recovered by personally presenting it with his congratulations. Food was excellent, hot and served/spaced appropriately for relaxed dinning."

  • "Food was great! Service was excellent! Food portions very good. Lighting not so great. Had to have my wife read the menu for both of us and she even had difficulty reading parts of it."

  • "When I made reservations I told them we were celebrating my husbands birthday and asked if someone would be kind enough to wish him a happy birthday. The day we arrived we had to wait a considerable amount of time before someone noticed we were at the front desk and during dinner I had to grab the waiters attention to have my bottomless mimosa refilled. I also had to mention to the waiter again that it was my husbands birthday before any greetings were offered. I had actually expected our arrival to be similar to a Four Seasons greeting in that they automatically knew who you were and also remembered any special events in our lives without being prompted again. Please note the restaurant was not all that crowded that day."

  • "I have wanted to eat at Culpeppers since I was a boy and then later dreamed of taking my wife there when we were first married. Finally, on the 25th anniversary of when we began dating, I surprised her with a date night at Culpepper Steak House. It was everything that I thought it would be and more. I hope not to wait 25 more years before I take her there again."

  • "We had been told this was the premier steak restaurant in Rockwall. It isn't. - The lighting was so bad, we could barely read the menu - The shrimp cocktail was a bit over cooked and came with enough cocktail sauce for 2 shrimp - The spinach appetizer had a smokiness to it that made it inedible. - The salmon was pedestrian - The Filet Mignon was a poor cut with a twist of fat through the middle - The Filet was also smoked, a choice, had I known, I would not have made. I prefer my steaks grilled. If grilling was an option, the room was too dark for us to see it on the menu. If the Filet was not smoked, then they need to bring the flame up on the grill. I would not recommend the place, but I will give them another try."

  • "Culpeppers is a top quality restaurant and our favorite place for special occasions. There is complimentary valet parking, which is especially nice when the weather is nasty. The service is first rate and the food is outstanding. The prices are a bit high; but probably not out of line with similar restaurants."

  • "We go to Culpepper often. We enjoy their wonderful dinners, as well as a delightful brunch. On this occasion, we were celebrating our daughter's birthday and she requested Culpepper. Their steaks are so delicious, as well as their choices of vegetables and if you have room they have great desserts for a sweet tooth!!"

  • "My husband and I have eaten at Culpepper's before and they are consistently over the top good in every aspect. Sourdough bread was hot with soft butter. The Caesar's salad dressing was perfectly delicious and the touch of lobster croutons on it was a treat. My Sea Bass dinner was cooked to perfection atop a tasty risotto with some yummy round squash balls scattered about the plate. Beautiful presentation. My husband had the Atlantic Salmon with colorful cauliflower. I had to try the Lobster mac n cheese out of curiosity. It was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is a little dark which we loved with rich woods and rustic decoration."

  • "We stayed at a hotel close by for a weekend getaway. The front desk recommended this place over their own restaurant. The food was out of this world!!! The shrimp, the oysters, the prime rib, and even the Creme Brûlée that was brought to us with a candle on it to celebrate our anniversary.....this place is top notch. Cannot wait to go back!!! Some people just know how to do it right and obviously the owners are some of those people. Thanks again for an evening that we will always remember."

  • "We usually love his place but haven't been in several years. Service was great, restaurant seemed quieter than I remembered and not nearly as crowded for a Friday night. There are so many outstanding food options now days that Culpepper's may be loosing its status. Steak was pretty rare in places and ordered medium, chicken fried lobster was a lacking flavor it once had. Pumpkin Caesar was the best thing we tried. Hopefully they were just having an off night. Will try again another time."

  • "Friends who introduced my wife and I came to dinner from the Ft, Worth area. I ordered flowers the table for the ladies. We had drinks at the bar, the atmosshere was great. The flowers went over reslly well, the ladies loved them however some of the other female patrons were upset that their husbands hadn't done the same. Our table was well placed, our sever was courteous and attentive. The food was excellent and topped off with the scrumptious peanut butter cheese cake. Perfect evening for two guys and their wonderful wives. We will be back"
