  • "This was an excellent brunch. The buffet was located in its own room - away from the dining tables. We were seated in the main dining room and the ambience was terrific. The food was hot and excellent - one of the best Easter brunches we have attended. The items were refilled regularly so nothing looked like it was sitting around and drying out. The staff was excellent. The only downside was that the tip of 20% was added even for a table of two. The service was good but do not appreciate the tip being added automatically without notification. "

  • "A little out of the way for most people but was trying to find a place about halfway for people in our party so this was it. Most of us thought the food was good, only one too salty to eat. Going for brunch? Get the cinnamon roll for an appetizer! Definitely big enough for three or four to share as an appetizer! Service was kind of sketchy. Never got drinks ordered in the bar waiting for all of our party to arrive. No iced tea for most of our meal. Four out of the six of us liked it, the other two not so much. My chicken fried steak was great and I don't usually eat stuff like that but the server convinced me after I had ordered the grilled chicken and someone else ordered the CFS. No room left for dessert though."

  • "First visit. Very disappointed in the quality of the food and service for the high prices. The scallop appetizers were mushy and fishy tasting. Steak was overcooked. The pasta in the pasta/beef entrée was tough and doughy. Save your money and go to SaltGrass Steak House or The Texas Roadhouse for a consistent tasty steak for a lot less money. The only nice thing about this place is the size of the dinning room and quality of building construction and furnishings."

  • "Based on reviews I had read prior to our reservation I was expecting more. . . . Waited in bar area for all parties to arrive - quiet and pleasant and wait staff attentive. . . . Our waiter was knowledgeable about food & wine . . . getting the right entre to the right person was a little choppy. I ordered my filet medium well and it was COOKED. Which then made it dry. . . . Husband ordered Prime Rib rare and came medium. . . . Hummmmm Not sure i would recommend or come again."

  • "Drove an hour to come to 2012s most romantic. Arrived 10pm. Seated 10:45pm. We were not greeted by a manager or anyone apologetic in that 45minute period. The ambiance in the bar area was ok. Dining area was a not well put together wedding. The lighting was bright. Flowers on only select few tables. Told numerous times kitchen was behind and trying to catch up. Dessert options were not available because they "ran out". By the start of our dinner we were so upset about the wait and service, now we had a select few options. $75 per person. We could have gone to one of our favorites instead of paying that much for subpar food and service. I was embarrassed we even paid for such a bad experience. Price is not an issue for us, but quality is."

  • "I had a reservation, but an hour later I was still not seated. The service was soooo slow after we finally got a table. The food was medium at best, my "side" of asparagus was TWO spears. They were out if the desert I ordered so a Tiramisu was served at it was all whipped cream (worst I have ever had) my husbands chocolate cake was flavorless. I will never go back."

  • "We had a reservation at 9. When we arrived the manager on duty told us they were running at least 2hours behind. I would expect a phone call before arriving stating that but I guess they don't care. The management team is suppose to call me today or tomorrow so we will see if that happens"

  • "We had 8:45 reservations and were not seated until 9:30! It reflects very poor scheduling on their part. The server was so busy to the point that we had to repeatedly ask for soup spoons, water refills, bread plates, etc. Other than repeated apologies, management did nothing else to compensate for the long wait. By that time some of the promised desserts were no long available. We were so tired we our entrees arrived that we did not enjoy our food to the fullest."

  • "I want to start by saying that we love Cullen's. We have always enjoyed our lunches, dinners, or just happy hour there. Normally, the dinners are really romantic and the food is always wonderful. With that being said, I do not think I will ever go back for a major holiday (like Valentine's Day this time). The restaurant had the lights turned up -- not romantic at all. It was so very crowded and our waitress was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Did not enjoy our evening at all. With that being said, we will be back because it is one of our favorite restaurants -- just not for something like this. (ran out of room to write more details)."

  • "We made a 5:30 reservation for their Valentine's Day event, yet still weren't seated until after 6. They had tables in every available space. We knew it would be slow and weren't in a hurry, but after our apetizers left the table, we waited about an hour and 15 minutes for our food, just sitting there, with nothing. When the food came, they had our steaks cooked wrong. They brought another steak to my wife that was supposed to be Mediumwell, but it was medium rare. They brought a third, still way undercooked. Their greed in overbooking the dining room and grossly exceeding the capacity of their kitchen to get food out was apparent. It will be a long time before we go back."

  • "We went for our anniversary as this is one of our favorite restaurants. They have changed their menu slightly and we miss the old extra touches. The main difference for us is in the bone-in ribeye steak -- they used to serve it with a red wine reduction and they don't anymore -- that really changed the quality of the dish -- wish they would bring it back. The past couple of times I have had the braised bone in short rib which is really good the first few bites, but then gets dry as you get closer to the bone. I thought it was a mishap the first time, but now that it happened the second time, I will go back to something else on the menu. Regardless, still love the restaurant."

  • "Our server sold us a bottle of wine that was WAY too young to drink. After he opened it for us he said that nobody had tried it before so he was interested in our opinion. I'm not sure how you can recommend a bottle of that you have no information on other than the grape and the year. After informing him that it was pretty undrinkable he got a glass and tasted it himself. He agreed that it wasn't very good and offered to get his manager involved. We never saw a manager and the bottle of wine stayed on our bill. For a restaurant that is supposed to have a wonderful wine list, it's disheartening that we ended up with such a terrible one. Food was fine, service was eh."

  • "The food was excellent...as was the service. It was a romantic spot....with live music which was very nice although we requested three different songs and the guy had no clue what they were. The only thing I would change was the ghiradelli hot chocolate....too thick...like drinking melted chocolate chips...and also the prices were a bit on the expensive side. For a special night...when you don't care about the bill....this is the place to be!"

  • "My wife and I went to Cullen's for our anniversary. I had never been; she had been a few years ago. The decor in the restaurant is nice; modern. The food was VERY good. Unfortunately, they had a piano player. Normally, that's not such a bad thing. However, it is when the piano player is singing. Off-key. With karaoke-style back-up music. No lie. On top of that, what we assumed was the regular background music was coming through speakers near our table. It's odd; the food was fantastic but the bizarre musical entertainment really had an affect on our enjoyment. One thing about the food, again it was great, but $52 for salmon w/ risotto and asparagus? Really? Had it been a menu item (w/ a price) and not a special, I would not have ordered it."

  • "We were 1 of 3 tables during our reservation time but didn't get our bread until after the appitizers. Additionally, we didn't have anyone come to our table for 5 minutes (I started a timer after seeing 3 staff members walk by our table). We dine often at restaurants in the heart of Houston but hoped Cullen's could be our neighborhood foodie fix. The wait person recommended a tomahawk steak for two. We of course tried that. The steak was seasoned well but though we specifically stated we wanted medium rare, one end of the steak was certainly rare (though not an issue as I like my steaks that way). However, the other side was medium to medium well."

  • "Cullen's has gone downhill since their financial problems. The food is now hit and miss, but never seems as good as a few years back. The bar, which is heavily advertised, is substandard. Can't make a gimlet? Really? I ordered a blood and sand which was very heavy on the oj and had no discernible scotch, much less the McAllens they used to use. If they want to recover, they need to get their act together."

  • "The "look"? Check. The ambience? Check. The service? Meh. The only thing subpar with our dining experience was the wait staff. They acted as though they worked at Chili's. The water service/bus boys were not very personable. The server who delivered our food (not the same person who waited on our table, which is fine) just dropped it on our table without a word. Our waiter was a good guy, just not very attentive to detail. He repeated himself a lot, it took him a few passes to note that we were low on water, and for specific requests. Overall, a good place to eat. It wants to be upscale, but to truly be upscale, the wait staff is REALLY going to have to show it. They need to step their games up!"

  • "We first went to the bar for a drink. The service was wonderful. The waitstaff was attentive. Then we proceeded into the dining room. Even though it was quite empty, we were seated near a server station where they were talking and rattling dishes. The waiter was horrible. Neither our water glasses nor our bread basket was refilled without our asking. The meal took over 2 hours. Not because we were enjoying it. Our appetizer/soup dishes had been cleared for well over 30 minutes before our dinner arrived. The restaurant was not busy and the entire order went in at the same time. There was absolutely no excuse. The waiter frequently reached across us vice going around. He was also sweating terribly and dripping. Very unpleasant. Won't be back."

  • "let me start with the positives .. the food was Great. Now to the problems... we had a table by the kitchen although there were plenty of open seats elsewhere .. took about 10min before our waiter came to the table. and when he finally came to our table he started like this "what do you want to eat" I’m not asking you to treat me like a king but a simple "hello welcome to Cullen’s my name is......" would have been more acceptable. the manager did nothing for us after he was notified of this poor behavior and service. so we then had to ask for a new waiter. he was much better."

  • "I thought the menu selections for Houston Resturant weeks was well below par of what I have experienced with other restuarants of this type. I eaten at Perry's and Post Oak Grill and the menu selections were excellent . Restuarnant weeks is excellent chance for people to experience the restuarant who would normally would not and Cullens totally blew it. In my opinion the Entree selections were the throw aways on the menu Flat Iron Steak cooked medium was tough and no seasoning and the Hawiian Marlin was very dry. The only saving grace to the meal was the Appetizer and dessert selections. I would not recommend this restuarant for the future to friends or family."
