Diner Reviews
  • "Staff was very pleasant, polite and friendly. The oysters took quite a while to come after ordering, perhaps just busy. Very fresh oysters. The octopus salad was rich and had a nice spice to it. The lobster toll, buttery and delicious, so was the grilled lobster, moist and succulent. Pricey, but the quality of food was worth it."

  • "High quality seafood meets the bar. If noise and tight space meets your needs than this is it. However I have enjoyed the food several times. Once for brunch when the noise was ok until after the first 1/2 hour of opening no one could hear."

  • "the food was great... went for dinner and I think it is more of a lunch place than a dinner place."

  • "We read about this restaurant at Chelsea Market and thought that we would try the $1 Oysters at the 4 to 6 pm Happy Hour. We arrived around 5 pm, waited around 15 minutes and then were seated at a bar table. Fabulous service, fabulous oysters and great wine options! This was so good we decided to come back an hour later for dinner. Dinner was also great! Crab & citrus salad, Fish & Chips and Lobster Rolls were fabulous! This restaurant did not disappoint! The service at dinner was just as good as the happy hour. We look forward to returning on our next visit to NY."

  • "Great food, attentive service and very accommodating. Only thing was the noise level of the music was a little high for such a small restaurant and how close the tables are -- food made up for it and very nice servers/host."

  • "The catch is that one has to endure the challenges of a restaurant with cramped space and a very limited number of regular tables to enjoy the delicious and fresh seafood at Cull and Pistol. We had multiple small dishes, including dessert and everything was great. Service was efficient and friendly. Pretend you are dining aboard a boat and enjoy it!"

  • "This was the first seafood restaurant I visited since moving to NYC. It didn't disappoint and will definitely go back."

  • "Seafood was incredibly fresh and well prepared. Service was excellent. The place is kind of small, but the table for two was a nice size. Good wine selection too. Would definitely go back. Wish they had more than one bathroom."

  • "Very much worth a trip if you want fresh oysters. Raw bar is solid, service is outstanding. Not terribly big - best to make reservations or go during off times if you want less crowds - but don't let that deter you. The Chelsea Market is tourist friendly (I don't see that as a minus, frankly)."

  • "Had never been here before, was looking for a seafood place, glad I tried this place! AmazIng fish & chips & extensive raw bar menu, albeit a bit on the pricey side. One negative: its very small."

  • "We began our dinner with a selection from the raw bar with our chilled bottle of Gruner Veltliner followed with delicious, tender Grilled Octopus Salad and Clam Chowder. The seared sea scallops were fabulous and fresh, with a wonderful flavor. Two others had the bacon wrapped char, equally delicious. Friendly, attentive service - highly recommended!"

  • "I had a wonderful and memorable birthday dinner with friends. The brussels sprouts and hamachi were excellent. I do wish they had a dessert menu."

  • "Had a wonderful meal. The fish was fresh and well prepared. The scallops I had were well prepared and the garnishes delicious and enhanced the scallops. The oysters were also very fresh and delicious. I must find a way to get there during the hours of 4-6 when they will only cost $1. Our waiter was also very competent and friendly. We had a good time and will be back."

  • "This place is amazing for several reasons. They have a killer oyster happy hour on weeknights. Then their dinner menu is also sensational. I highly recommend the super addicting "new" bay fries, the uni tagliatelle, and the hamachi collar. The place isn't quite small, so it's best to go with a date or small groups. Make reservations just in case! Great vibe, delicious food, and reasonable prices as well."

  • "The place is a great little neighborhood seafood place. The space is a bit cramped and you can't get coffee with your meal, but it's worth the trip. Not for special occasions like birthdays, but my out-of-town guests have like it. It's good for lunch, too."

  • "WE have dined there twice. Food fantastic, staff friendly and attentive. Decor suits the style of dining and menu is good. It is relaxed enough to enjoy yourself whilst at the same time being cool so it is great for a celebration as well. Oyster soup was amazing, lobster roll, lobster, clams and oysters all worth a revisit. We are holidaying in NYC but if we were local I would frequent it regularly and I certainly will return on my next visit. The music played is also cool and not too loud. On both ocasions we all walked out very happy."

  • "This place is run by The Lobster Place in The Chelsea Market. The fresh oysters are amazing! Every dish was really good. A must try!"

  • "Terrific little place. It's a shoot off restaurant supplied by a huge and fabulous fish market next door. Small, with a great NYC ambiance - exposed brick, wood tables close together. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. If you are looking for a place to linger, or romance, this is not your place. Turn over is quick, and tables are close enough to hear your neighbors conversation. It is a terrific restaurant for Chelsea Market. Fun, attractive, great food and good service. Would definitely go back."

  • "The food was excellent overall, service also very good. However, the only disappointment is they do not serve Bread??? When I asked for some, it was an issue. The waitress was nice and brought one small piece of grilled Ciabatta with some kind of oil and butter. A bread basket instead of only fries to choose from would make the dining experience overall so much better! The oysters are excellent. The lobster okay."

  • "Loved the $1 oyster happy hour. Great selection of West and East coast oysters on the menu. Service was fantastic. The staff made sure we were taken care of and did a great job explaining all the dinner menu items."

  • "The food was excellent and the staff friendly. It's very smal, so a bigger group wouly not simply fit in. Still perfect for a gourmand couple."

  • "The staff were great. They helped us make our choices at the raw bar and they went out of their way to make something off menu for my date who has allergies. The only problem with the night was that the kitchen seemed a little slow for a place where most of the food was raw or had minimal preparation. Great little space with good music at a nice level. I would go back!"

  • "I came for the happy hour oysters, which were all very fresh and delicious. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating and the service was quick with our orders and water refills."

  • "The raw bar is amazing. For an area that attracts tourists, the prices are great. From the moment you walk in, every member of the staff is very attentive and friendly."

  • "The menu isn't long, but the food is absolutely delicious and the fish perfectly prepared and impeccably fresh. Do not miss the oysters, which are sparklingly clean and briny from a balanced list of mostly east cost selections, served with the right classic sauces. Nothing is overdone, letting the central ingredient star. I haven't had skate wine for awhile, and it was great, as were my friend's scallops. I didn't care there was only one option for dessert, which we didn't order, but lack of coffee or an espresso machine is a little disappointing."

  • "The food was really good, fusion sea-food. Very loud, not great for large groups the seating is tight."

  • "We stumbled upon this place after we couldn't get reservations at a nearby hot spot. We are so grateful we landed here. It was a small place, we were seated very close to neighboring couples but it didn't take away from our experience. It actually added to it. Our lobster came fresh from the market next door. Our waiter was attentive and concerned with discussing our interests in the menu and made suggestions that we enjoyed. The scallops were hands down our favorite entree but there wasn't a thing wrong with the lobster. This was a great find."

  • "Food was decent but nothing special. Same with the service. Spot seemed to be more touristy than anything else. As compared to other NYC restaurants, especially oyster bars and seafood places, there is nothing particularly memorable about cull and pistol (except the hole in leaves in your wallet) Try mermaid oyster bar if you really appreciate food quality."

  • "Service was pleasant but there was a long time between appetizers and entrée, kitchen's responsibility I guess. Lobster very tasty and tender, as were the scallops. Missed having bread and a dessert selection. Interesting menu and limited but interesting wine list."
