Diner Reviews
  • "My second visit, and the food was just as great. We loved the Taster Platter, literally a small taste of several different items, just enough to take the edge off the appetite but not suppress it. The pear mutardo{?} was an especially tasty combo of sweet and sour condiment. Our mains were both excellent, and I really enjoyed the very flavorful and differently spiced sauce in which the stewed potatoes came with the chicken. We appreciated the generous but not overwhelming size of the portions. We were too full for dessert. Most wines are not sold by the glass unless there is an open bottle, but we both liked what we were able to be served. Service was friendly and readily available."

  • "I've passed it a hundred times. Time to go in. Now..im glad i did. This joint is a little charmer. Small and unassuming from the outset, but pleased a punch when seated, and served. The menu is short and sweet, but the dishes' served are savory. Im liking the location for starters, much like others that have followed, moving into non-discript, yet very mature neighborhoods, that make the ambience happen. Yeah for 'ole Strathcona"..."

  • "I have been to Culina several times, and as usual it does not disappoint. Food was great! We start with the lamb hot dogs, more out of curiosity than anything else. They were unique. I think my brain had trouble with the flavor of lamb in a hot dog form, but it was great non the less. I then had the blue chees tenderloin, which was fantastic. I will definitely be back to Culina Millcreek."

  • "What else can I say but the food was simply delicious all around. This is one of, if not, the best brunches in all of Edmonton."

  • "Love Culina, my special occasion go-to place for nearly a decade. Fresh food, diverse wine list, attention to detail."

  • "We had an excellent time at Culina! The service was great, and the good was amazing. Really wish I hadn't waited until 2 weeks before moving out of the city to discover this incredible gem only blocks from my front door! The wine list is quite extensive, and the ever-changing menu will definitely keep things interesting!"

  • "Went with 2 friends and we looked at the dessert menu at the same time as the entrees. What we saw there encouraged us to eat lightly. I had the house salad which was great as usual. The other 2 had the squash salad which they liked. We also ordered the cheese fries to share - very good, a step up from poutine! And then, drum roll, 2 of us ordered the creme brulee with cambozola cheese. Weird combination? Yes! But utterly delicious. Service was excellent!"

  • "Culina just revamped their menu, so no specials. Didn't matter since all of the new menu choices were top notch!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here after having had a recommendation from a friend, who insisted this place is one of the hidden gems of Edmonton. Well, I would have to agree. Great service, food and ambiance. The menu options are a little limited, but both dishes we had were expertly presented and delicious. The tables are quite tight as space is fairly limited. But it was quiet, no irritating music and even when busy the noise level was not intrusive. In short, if you like good food you must try this place out. I would definitely return."

  • "My friend and I went for brunch at 12:30 and that turned out to be a great idea -- I've been there earlier and there were lines out the door. The brunch menu is on from 10 til 2 Sat and Sun so going later means you can have the same great food with less crowding (although the place was pretty much full). We both really enjoyed our meals. I had the whiskey-soaked apple fritters. No whiskey taste but they were yummy and came with a couple of sides, a very nice sauce in the bottom and a lot of thin fresh apple slices. Always get the cornbread! 4 pieces and I took 3 home with the chicken sausages (I'm a veggie) - had a lovely little dinner with some apple slices and veggie sausages for me."

  • "I went out for brunch with some girl friends the other day and had a great experience at Culina-Millcreek. I ordered the apple fritters with sausage, aged cheddar and maple ginger syrup. Everything was delicious and the coffee was really good too."

  • "My Fiancee and I are regulars at this restaurant and we were a bit disappointed by the change of the menu. Our favorite appetizers along with a few of the main dishes are no longer offered and have been replaced with mediocre dishes, at best. We really felt as though we had eaten a pub styled dinner after we left, especially with one of the main entrees served with pommes frittes...basically just French fries!"

  • "We had a wonderful time at culina. Food is delicious as per usual, and having most of it sourced locally is an added bonus. Only thing I criticism I have is our dessert wasn't on par with the rest of the meal. However, we will definitely be back- Love this place."

  • "The brunch at the Millcreek Culina is always lovely. The food is delicious and creative, without being pretentious. That's hard to pull off, right? Their "bacon and eggs" are a favourite amongst our family and friends, but don't shy away from less common options like their tofu scramble; they skillfully make everything so tasty, I often find myself thinking "how do they make this taste so good?"."

  • "I came here with a friend for brunch. Overall, it was great and I will definitely be returning. Pros: The food was amazing. Likely the best brunch I've had in Edmonton. My friend and I shared the huevos rancheros, and the apple fritters/chicken sausage plate. Both were fantastic. The coffee was just alright (we shared a french press), but the caesars were great. Our reservation was ready for us when we arrived, service was polite, friendly, and timely, and prices were reasonable. Cons: It was a beautiful sunny weekend day when we ate here, and yet the restaurant kept their dark, heavy curtains completely closed. It would have been nice to let the sun in, especially in such a beautiful neighborhood."

  • "The entrance into the restaurant once you came in the door was a little unusual but after experiencing the food at Culina we thought the only thing missing from the unusual door was the sound "AAAAAAHHHHH" sound like entering into heaven. The food was Spectacular! We order bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter and gobbled those up while waiting. Only 7 Brunch items on the menu, still hard to pick which one or just one for that matter. We had Culina's version of Bacon and Eggs, Cheddar Scrambled Eggs and their Whisky-soaked apple fritters. An amazing twist on two original brunch items and a must try on something different. Would definitely go back to try everything else! Thanks Culina Millcreek"

  • "We were looking for a place to have a nice dinner before an evening at the old-timers cabin. This spot was fantastic for us! Although not inexpensive, the price was reasonable. My personal recommendation would be the fish stew it was wonderful!! I would definitely come back again."

  • "Perfect place to just sit down, enjoy good food and drinks with a date or just someone you want to spend some quality time with. Food was great and the staff there are friendly like always. Definitely a place I like to go with a friend to just catch up after a stressful or hectic week at work."

  • "My husband and I had a 5:00 PM reservation at Culina Millcreek on a Tuesday evening. It was great! Food was wonderful, portions were very generous, and the wait staff was knowledgeable and very helpful. Definitely a great time to go, as we had the entire restaurant to ourselves for almost an hour and a half."

  • "My wife and I have been here twice, first before a concert and this time for our five year anniversary. The food was fantastic both times, very tasty appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. The service is great, we've never felt rushed. The mood is always relaxed, although the small space means it can be a little loud if the restaurant is full. All in all though, wonderful place for a romantic dinner."

  • "Totally excellent! We had no idea that this place even existed- thank you Open Table! Very quaint, probably only seats about 40 people, but what a gem! We strapped on the feedbags and had the Taster Plate with the cheese, olives, meat, fried artichokes (where have you been all my life??) and house made bread, then both the salads and then we both had the striploin and braised ribs. Yes, two meats, on a bed of garlic mashed with what appeared to be a blue cheese gravy (sweet mother!) and a reduction of some sort that made for an amazing entrée. Our server had warned us that we were in for a lot of food and we totally maxxed out- couldn't have the dessert but we will be coming back for sure!"

  • "I'd been here for brunch once and was blown away by the food. I brought my vegan friend and she was also delighted with her meal. It was so delicious I decided make a reservation for valentine's. I hoped that the dinner menu would be just as great and was not disappointed. I had the halibut which was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend got the braised lamb. I'm not a huge fan of lamb, but tried a couple bites and was surprised at just how tender and flavorful it was. The dulce de leche brulee we had for dessert was absolutely phenomenal. The atmosphere was quiet and super romantic. It was great for morning brunch with friends and was also an excellent setting for a romantic date night. LOVE that it's all local and in-season food."

Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us make our dining decisions. The food was incredible! I can't wait to go back! What a great experience overall!"

  • "Our server was great. No one was there to greet me when I walked in the restaurant. I waited for about 3 minutes before I caught someone's attention in the kitchen. My food was tasty, and the portion size was good. It was so dark in the restaurant, I actually could not see my food or tell the difference between the type of things on my plate. When my friend and I ordered dessert, the server had to double check the menu, and also couldn't see it. He had to turn away to try and find some light from the bar to be able to read the menu. I used to enjoy the Millcreek location more than I do. It no longer seems like a hip place for unique food. It feels like it is still stuck in the world it was created in in the 2000's."

  • "My first delightful surprise was free parking in the back of the restaurant. We were two retired ladies trying a new restaurant for lunch. The young male server was very helpful with the menu and specials. We both had salad and soup which were excellent. We followed this with Vietnamese coffee. Our server was so helpful with explaining how the coffee maker worked and gave us assistance with it. That was kind of fun."

  • "Nice place for an evening out, tucked away just south of the river. Charming, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service was excellent, and food was to die for. Both the lamb and the pork were cooked to perfection. Recommend this for couples looking for a casual, quiet evening."

  • "as usual our meal at Culina Millcreek was nice & food perfectly prepared. the very loud noises from bar & kitchen area, however, took away from the ambience & experience. eg/ dishes dropping, rammy staff with plates being stacked, etc. if that could have been excluded it would have been a perfect night out. pairing it with bibo before was a nice touch."
