Diner Reviews
  • "The staff was not very quick, the woman who was greeting was rude, we greeted her, she did not speak to us until we spoke to her. We waited 40 minutes for our table, then we were sat next to a vent with freezing air pouring out of it. The table next to us had their outdoor coats on at the table, in a fine dining restaurant due to the uncomfortable temperaure in our corner of the room. The bar was not stocked, they were out of the first two choices I picked. The food was very good, so maybe they put all of there focus on that. However I will not go back due to the service. We had to light our own candle at our table. Cmon."

  • "Tried the Restaurant Week menu & were both very pleased with our choices. They also served us in a timely manor so we didn't have to rush to our DSO concert. Cuisine is dependedly good & we always enjoy our dining (and drinking!) experiences there."

  • "Provided great space for private dining for work dinner. However, music was too loud."

  • "We went to this restaurant for Detroit Restaurant Week. I'd say the only positive thing was that we got seated right away and we were there 10 min before our reservation. We ordered a couple dishes to share.n What a joke! to share? The portions were ridiculously small. The mac and cheese looked like kraft mac and cheese from a box and like they just added some truffle oil. My hubby, myself and one of the two friends we were with ordered the halibut entree. When the waiter brought the dishes he warned us that the plates were very hot. We assumed that meant our dinner as well. Mine and our friends fish was room temp and my husbands was COLD.He told the waiter who said he'd send over a manager. The manager never came by to check on us."

  • "We had a reservation and were escorted to our table which was positioned half in a hallway and half in the dining room. There was inadequate room for anyone to get by without hitting the chair. I asked for an alternate table and even though there were tables available, they only offered a seat at the bar. We sat down at the inadequate table and started to look at the menu. I was greeted by an unappealing dust ball on the table and my chair was bumped by passers by several times in only a couple of minutes. We got up and left. The hostess grunted and was very rude as we left. Although we had a positive experience in the past at this restaurant, I cannot recommend it and will not be returning."

  • "This beautiful restaurant is tucked away in a neighborhood behind the Fisher Theater and is absolutely wonderful. It has all those things you look for in a great restaurant - great service (Ashley was our very knowledgable and terrific server), amazing food, beautiful ambience set in an old mansion and different rooms are set up to sit in - very romantic. I would recommend it to all -"

  • "It all started out wrong. We arrived 5 mintes prior to our reservation and were told we were early and they couldn't seat us even though half the resturant was empty. 20 mintes later (15 minutes after our reservation) we were seated. We had a drink in the bar and no big deal Once seated at our table we sat for 15 minutes with no sevice. We decided to return to the bar - there was service there. We ordered dinner quickly there. The salads and bread came out quickly too. Although the bar tender dropped the bread on the bar. But instead of replacing it, he just picked it up and put it on our bread plate - was a turn off. The meal was flavorfull but small portion I wonder if this resturant would survive if the theater wasn't so close."

  • "Cuisine is a nice choice if you are headed for the Fisher Theatre just down the street (or alleyway...safe!). It has a nice ambience, and the menu is interesting enough to captrue your attention. Unfortunately the menu that is on the website is not always available, particularly the souffles...so that was a bit of a disappointment since souffles are hard to find in Detroit restaurants, so we were looking forward to those. The wine list is pretty well curated for mid-range prices and nice quality. Our server was amongst the best I've encountered in the area-- friendly, helpful, added to our experience in a bright way. This is hard to find especially in metro Detroit."

  • "Loved the halibut and corn chowder during restaurant week. Was not too long a wait for food, as others have said. Very good service and food was also tasty and well presented."

  • "I have long enjoyed this restaurant. Seems I forget it is there and don't go for months, but when I do, it is always fantastic."

  • "The food is excellent at Cuisine. My friends and I go there before almost every show at the Fisher Theater, the service is great, they always have a special 3 course show menu and it makes it very easy for you to go in, have a great dinner and walk across the street to the show. I wish there wine list was a little more robust, and when I say that...I don't mean expensive, I mean very good 90 point wines from small vineyards."

  • "Food and service were excellent for a pre-show dinner. Looking forward to trying The Stand in Birmingham. Ashley was wonderful."

  • "Staff were friendly but not intrusive. Food was fabulous and the portion sizes were just right. I don`t like big portions but I had an app & an entree while my husband had the excellent Theater Menu. We were unsure which wine to pick so two bottles were brought to our table and discussed with us. It was great value. We`ve already booked again for my birthday next month."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Cuisine before attending a show at the Fisher. It was very convenient to park the car once and walk to the theater after dinner. The meal and service was outstanding. The theater menu had plenty of choices for a reasonable fixed price. Highly recommend!"

  • "Theater menu is a great choice to get you served and on time for Fisher production. There were enough choices for any appetite. Wait staff seemed new and were well trained."

  • "Cuisine was a great place to dine. The staff was friendly and made wonderful recommendations on the food and wine. Overall, it was a little pricey, but worth the money. The food was excellent and prepared the way it was ordered. Wine was great. Recommend it to anyone looking for a nice dinner spot close to midtown."

  • "The food at Cuisine was very good! We weren't too impressed with the quality of the mixed drinks we had, but the wine was good. The service was great and I was happy that they were able to accommodate my big group of (13 people). Would definitely recommend this place!"

  • "This is one of our favorite places in Detroit. The food, service and ambience is always perfect!!!! If you visit - as for a table near the window."

  • "Lovely renovated home behind the Fisher building. Food was very good. We had the halibut and bass entrées. The bass was outstanding, the halibut was just a tad overdone so was just a bit dry. The sauces on both fish were delicious. We went with another couple before the DSO show on a Friday night. Had no trouble making it to the music hall on time."

  • "We were there for friends birthday. this was my wife's first time being a cuisine. She was very impressed. Seeing that she travels a lot and has eatin its various places in the United States. She made me promise to bring her back. Needless to say I will be returning with her."

  • "We had not eaten at Cuisine for a while but decided to go to celebrate Valentine's Day (one day late). There was a prix fixe menu with lots of delicious choices. We splurged on the wine flight to accompany the meal. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The wine flight was lovely and worth the price with nice big pours of delicious wine. I highly recommend Cuisine."

  • "We had the four course Valentine weekend option. Wonderful! Perfect size servings so that by the time dessert was served you could actually enjoy it! French country pate, risotto with tuna tartar, the best Halibut I have ever had, top grade sirloin for my date, two chop chop salads...all wonderful. The price point makes this a special occasion stop for us. We will be back"

  • "Better than Roast... Need I say more? It's hard to compare since we are talking about two totally different menus, but my preference is admittedly biased toward French food. I would rank the overall thoughtfulness of the menu higher than Roast and execution equal to."

  • "The food was excellent and our server was very friendly and made some great recommendations. This was our first time at Cuisine and will definitely go back. we were seated right on time, however be prepared for a long wait between courses, I think it took a little over 2 hours from being seated to being served desert. The food was worth waiting for!!!"

  • "I took my wife here for Valentine's day and as the title says, we expected more for the price. The food was good, however, the service was a bit lacking. Our waiter was very nice, but the time it took for our food to arrive was just too long. It was a prix fixe menu which makes the time we waited for our food even more puzzling. The ambiance was great for a romantic night out. Cuisine is an old house that has been converted to a restaurant. Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant until either prices are lowered or service is improved. If we go back and these have been corrected, I'll be sure to update this review."

  • "Not quite what I was expecting giving the previous reviews. Scallops were overcooked, had to send them back. Waitress was a temporary hire who really didn't know the menu. All in an and okay meal for a not so okay price."

  • "Food was very good, however the service was horrible. Took the server forever to greet us, take our drink order, take our food order, and give us our bill. I think that both my water glass and my drink glass sat empty for over 10 minutes during our meal before I could find our sever to alert them to this issue."

  • "From the moment we entered the door the service was outstanding. We were welcomed like family and the warmth of the welcome we received was matched by table service throughout the meal. Our dinner was nothing short of fantastic, the portions were surprisingly generous and our entire experience was perfect. Cuisine is definitely a new favorite."

  • "This was our first time at Cuisine. We had a group of 6 for the Charity Preview. Food was outstanding. Server was very attentive. Very nice experience. Will defiantly dine here again."

  • "Upon arriving at restaraunt we were informed the menu and tasting menu on website was not available. We were one of probably 5 groups in the restaraunt so there were many open tables so we were surprised that we got sat at the only table in the bar area, this was not conducive to providing a nice ambiance. The bartender was out waiter and he could tell we were disappointed and did his best to accommodate us. His service was excellent. The food was good but we had been planning on the tasting menu."

  • "Located directly across from Fisher. They always have a Theatre menu or you can order from their regular menu. We have always enjoyed dinning at the Cuisine"

  • "You would think a restaurant that derives so much business from the theater crowd would learn to handle the rush - but no - great meal if you don't mind getting your entree over an hour after you sit down… with NOTHING for the first 20 minutes, not even a drink."

  • "Waitress got everything WRONG, then disappeared & spilled steak juice all over one of our coats & because of her we were LATE to the Theatre to see War Horse & we had to wait @ the back for 1st few min before going to our 2nd Row CTR seats. MGR only nice person @ restaurant. He came by our table checking out. Do NOT eat upstairs like an attic. Even reserved a downstairs table & they gave it away. Stay away from Cuisine. Orders wrong, incomplete, didn't get 2nd order of drinks, had to send food back to correct."
