Diner Reviews
  • "I went to Cucina de Pesce twice this weekend. The first night I ordered the clams and spaghetti which had a horrible taste and I could only take a few bites. The second night I had the spinach ravioli. The ravioli was very good, and tasted homemade, but they sat in a water puddle which was suppose to be the tomato sauce. The service was fine but the food well below par. A bit disappointed, this always was a favorite of mine."

  • "My second time here. We had the same waiter who was great before and we where happy to see him again. Was a date night for my husband and I. The staff is so nice and polite from the manager bartender waiter and even bus boy. We cant wait to go back."

  • "We were a party for 6.There were 4 great meals and 2 not. The mussels, calm linguini, mushroom ravioli, lasagna , were fantastic and properly cooked. The chicken and veal scallopini were tough and way over cooked. I would still go again"

  • "I've been dining at Cucina di Pesci since about 1990 and have always been impressed by they're quality food and good service at an affordable price. The ambiance is fit for both a comfortable spot for a nice casual meal, and also for a special occasion or celebration. My fiancee and I were very pleased with their 28th Anniversary special menu. Good stuff!"

  • "I went here to check this restaurant out for potential birthday party location. Unfortunately it's not the one I chose. The waiter was somewhat attentive and brought out food and drinks appropriately. But when it came came to pay the check first of all they only accept cash and American Express. Then upon him telling us that it was a $65 check we gave him $80 of cash. And he never returned with change and it was the end of the night so everyone suddenly disappeared. We ended up just leaving, giving them the $15 tip and going home. The food was mediocre, pretty standard Italian food. And the drinks seem to be a bit watered-down. Although the decor is really nice and I really wanted to like the restaurant I don't think I'll be returning."

  • "Really cute little restaurant. Calamari was really good. So was the spinach ravioli. Definitely recommend for a quiet date night."

  • "We eat here when in the neighborhood. The food is good and so is the service. It can get noisy and crowded on weekend nights which isn't a bad thing either."

  • "I was so looking forward to going to this restaurant after what I read in reviews and was grossly disappointed. Yes...if you want an inexpensive meal-go there their early bird special but not for a great meal. It was mediocre. The waiter rushed us for our order for no apparent reason and make a mistake on our order-ok....it happens but the "non" crispy calamari was barely cooked; the stuffed flounder hardly had any shrimp or crabmeat and the food was just thrown on the table. Again, go there if you just want an inexpensive average meal. We did not get dessert."

  • "My first experience with CdP was 22 years ago and I have to say that Saturday night was as great an experience as that night and every time I had returned there over the years. Rolling back the menu prices to 1986 made it that much more enjoyable. The place was packed and the main dining room was packed and a little too warm for me and my party but we sat at a table in the other room next to bar as I had requested in my reservation. I plan on returning real soon. I'm even contemplating next Friday."

  • "We came here for a friend's birthday dinner and the restaurant was very accommodating. Service and food were good and the restaurant was cute. They even kept the cupcakes we brought in the kitchen until we were ready for dessert. Music is a little loud and kind of sounds like elevator music, but we had fun trying to figure out what pop song it was mimicking. We were at a large table off from the bar, and not in the main dining area, which was probably better because we got a little loud."

  • "Pros - The place had a nice ambiance and the service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. Cons - The food is good, but not great All that would be ok for a 2nd visit, except you never know how the noise level is going to be. When we first got there -- the music was too loud, but we went into the side room (which is lovely) and it was sound was ok (but it was fairly empty). by the time we finished our meal, a large table had come in, plus a noisy foursome next to us, and the noise was overwhelming. Ran out as fast as possible."

  • "The portions were large but the food was flavorless. A complete disappointment from when I visited the restaurant a few years ago. The place was also empty at 8pm on a Saturday night. The bathrooms were also small and dirty - would not go back again."

  • "Our hotel recommended that we try this spot if we didn't want a chain restaurant experience. It was delicious and authentic. My pasta was homemade with chicken sausage and brussel sprouts. A friend of mine had the seafood pasta and I wasn't as impressed by it. I would go back if I couldn't think of somewhere else to go."

  • "The resturant was full obviously for valentines day but service lacked. Took credit card but only Amex never heard of that before. Waiter was good he was jammed busy. Major issues it was too loud and I couldn't hear my Girlfriend talk. I say it's a nice place but I won't go back."

  • "We went there for their Valentine's Day special menu. Everything was OK in the beginning but we had to wait for our main dishes for more than one hour. The restaurant was really crowded but most of them were waiting for their food for a long time and we saw many people complaining to the waiting staff. The food was OK, although the tomato sauce of the spaghetti that came with my main dish as a side tasted like right from a can. The music played at that night was like those played at a club or a bar, personally I don't think it was appropriate for a restaurant or for a special occasion like Valentine's Day. We are not coming back again."

  • "We were surprised at how excellent the food was at such moderate prices. The Cioppino and the Lasagne di Pesce were both excellent and not skimpy portions. We intend to return often. Very affordable. Even the wines are offered at very affordable prices, and a decent selection."

  • "Cucina di Pesce has been our go-to place in the East Village for many years for a simple meal, whether we're looking for Italian or seafood. The calamari appetizer, whether fried or grilled, is excellent, as are the main dishes, and the prices are very reasonable."

  • "I've been to Cucina many times over the years, mainly for its proximity to the theaters on the block. The food is serviceable, the ambience fine--but holy, moly, the early-bird special is a great deal! $14 for salad, soup, pasta and an entree? Try beating that at a diner. Perfect pre-theater meal, though you run the risk of dozing in your seat."

  • "We were there when it first opened. I don't understand why didn't go back just that we moved out of the city. But we are back.... The fish was perfect. Sauce or gravy was just the way I like.it."

  • "This place was ok. I went a year ago with my boyfriend on a date and was really unimpressed. Since it was cold they had enclosed the outdoor dining but it still felt cold and not welcoming. The waiter was unattentive to our orders and waacted like we weren't there half the time. I don't expect to be drooled over but if I ask for a second glass of wine, I would like rather promptly and not 20 minutes later when the bill comes."

  • "We read good reviews of this place. Yet the food was totally second rate. The broccoli with melted mozzarella was like something you would have in a cheap pizzeria, watery and tasteless. The pastas were equally bland. While this place is a decent value for the money, it is not for those with discerning taste buds. However it is a fun place to knock back some cheap drinks and hang out with friends. A word of warning for those who are sensitive to noisy spaces...this place became extremely loud once the room filled up."

  • "It's cash only so bear that in mind. We sat in the back where it is quieter. Not a trendy place but good solid southern Italian food with an "old fashioned"village vibe, brick walls, foreign staff and a few steps leading down into the place. You feel kinda like you should say "Luigi sent me""

  • "We Celebrated a friends 50th Bday and enjoyed the food and service the Linguini with Calamari and Mussels in Fra Diavolo Saucewas just the right amount of spicy and filled with seafood - The Eggplant Parmigiana was plentiful and the side of pasta in garlic and olive oil was very tasty – the caramel cheesecake was the hot of the dinner party (skip the apple pie) – the pecan pie was also delicious"
