Pros - The place had a nice
ambiance and the service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. Cons - The food is good, but not great All that would be ok for a 2nd visit, except you never know how the noise level is going to be. When we first got there -- the music was too loud, but we went into the side room (which is lovely) and it was sound was ok (but it was fairly empty). by the time we finished our meal, a large table had come in, plus a noisy foursome next to us, and the noise was overwhelming. Ran out as fast as possible."

The portions were large but the
food was flavorless. A complete disappointment from when I visited the restaurant a few years ago. The place was also empty at 8pm on a Saturday night. The bathrooms were also small and dirty - would not go back again."

Our hotel recommended that we try
this spot if we didn't want a chain restaurant experience. It was delicious and authentic. My pasta was homemade with chicken sausage and brussel sprouts. A friend of mine had the seafood pasta and I wasn't as impressed by it. I would go back if I couldn't think of somewhere else to go."

Great meal for valentines day. We
had a prix fixe menu which was great value. Heartfelt recommendation"
Dined on 2/14/2014
The resturant was full obviously
for valentines day but service lacked. Took credit card but only Amex never heard of that before. Waiter was good he was jammed busy. Major issues it was too loud and I couldn't hear my Girlfriend talk. I say it's a nice place but I won't go back."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We went there for their
Valentine's Day special menu. Everything was OK in the beginning but we had to wait for our main dishes for more than one hour. The restaurant was really crowded but most of them were waiting for their food for a long time and we saw many people complaining to the waiting staff. The food was OK, although the tomato sauce of the spaghetti that came with my main dish as a side tasted like right from a can. The music played at that night was like those played at a club or a bar, personally I don't think it was appropriate for a restaurant or for a special occasion like Valentine's Day. We are not coming back again."

We were surprised at how excellent
the food was at such moderate prices. The Cioppino and the Lasagne di Pesce were both excellent and not skimpy portions. We intend to return often. Very affordable. Even the wines are offered at very affordable prices, and a decent selection."

Cucina di Pesce has been our go-to
place in the East Village for many years for a simple meal, whether we're looking for Italian or seafood. The calamari appetizer, whether fried or grilled, is excellent, as are the main dishes, and the prices are very reasonable."

I've been to Cucina many times
over the years, mainly for its proximity to the theaters on the block. The food is serviceable, the ambience fine--but holy, moly, the early-bird special is a great deal! $14 for salad, soup, pasta and an entree? Try beating that at a diner. Perfect pre-theater meal, though you run the risk of dozing in your seat."
Dined on 1/17/2014
We were there when it first
opened. I don't understand why didn't go back just that we moved out of the city. But we are back.... The fish was perfect. Sauce or gravy was just the way I like.it."
Dined on 1/11/2014
Inexpensive pre-theater dinner,
but the service was very poor."

If you're looking for a nice
dinner that won't break the bank, this is a great place to go. I was pleased with the menu options, and everything I tasted was very good. I will definitely return."

This place was ok. I went a year
ago with my boyfriend on a date and was really unimpressed. Since it was cold they had enclosed the outdoor dining but it still felt cold and not welcoming. The waiter was unattentive to our orders and waacted like we weren't there half the time. I don't expect to be drooled over but if I ask for a second glass of wine, I would like rather promptly and not 20 minutes later when the bill comes."
Dined on 2/23/2013
Very friendly and attentive
service. Food and portions were great especially for the price. I would definitely return."

Pleasant wait staff. Uncomfortable
seating, Every dish was underseasoned..tasteless.."
Dined on 12/17/2013
We read good reviews of this
place. Yet the food was totally second rate. The broccoli with melted mozzarella was like something you would have in a cheap pizzeria, watery and tasteless. The pastas were equally bland. While this place is a decent value for the money, it is not for those with discerning taste buds. However it is a fun place to knock back some cheap drinks and hang out with friends. A word of warning for those who are sensitive to noisy spaces...this place became extremely loud once the room filled up."
Dined on 11/22/2013
I was extremely impressed that my
written request to be seated in a quiet area was honored."
Dined on 12/7/2013
Really was surprised buy this
little quaint place. The food was outstanding as well as the staff, it must stop if you are in the neighborhood."
Dined on 12/7/2013
The early bird special is the best
deal in town. The food is excellent, the service attentive and the ambiance really nice."
Dined on 12/3/2013
The perfect spot before a
performance at one of the nearby theaters."
Dined on 11/25/2013
It's cash only so bear that in
mind. We sat in the back where it is quieter. Not a trendy place but good solid southern Italian food with an "old fashioned"village vibe, brick walls, foreign staff and a few steps leading down into the place. You feel kinda like you should say "Luigi sent me""

We Celebrated a friends 50th Bday
and enjoyed the food and service the Linguini with Calamari and Mussels in Fra Diavolo Saucewas just the right amount of spicy and filled with seafood - The Eggplant Parmigiana was plentiful and the side of pasta in garlic and olive oil was very tasty – the caramel cheesecake was the hot of the dinner party (skip the apple pie) – the pecan pie was also delicious"

Had my birthday dinner here on
Saturday night. Great food, reasonably priced."

My boyfriend and I have been
coming to this restaurant for a couple years now, and it never disappoints. The food is always great, the service is quick, and the prices aren't catastrophic. The pastas are delicious. Highly recommended!"
Dined on 11/16/2013
The food is always delicious! The
staff is very friendly and the wait staff knows the specials and is very courteous."

My niece and I had a lovely Sunday
night dinner. Nice pasta and wine. Not rushed. No wait for table despite full restaurant. (Our reservation was quickly retrieved.) Attentive and friendly waiters."
Dined on 11/10/2013
The food was delish and we sat in
the back where it was quietier. Service was great..just be sure to bring cash as they don't take credit cards."

i was a regular here until I left
the neighborhood. Great location, choose carefully from the menu and keep your service expectations low. Great martini."
Dined on 11/8/2013
I had heard good things about
Cucina di Pesce and I thought it looked cute when I walked by one night so I had been dying to go, but I was very disappointed. The food was very bland and didn't taste fresh (kinda important when it comes to seafood) and the server was not very attentive."
Dined on 6/28/2013
Reservations were for 7P, we
arrived early and were welcomed and seating per our request on the patio. The servers were all very attentative and friendly. My friend ordered a Bombay gin martini, and they asked exactly how he wanted it and kept offering all kinds of options - he said it was fantastic. I picked this restaurant due to their Cioppino offering on the menu and I wasn't disappointed at all - in fact it was enough for 2 people to share. My friend had the seafood pasta and he said it was incredible. The evening was relaxed, people watching from the patio, and even though they filled with guests, the servers were there available at all times. The only surprise was at the end when we found out that they only accept American Express."

We have eaten here often and have
always had a wonderful experience. However, on Tuesday, the service was inadequate. The restaurant was not busy but in between courses we had lots of waiting time. At the end of the meal, we had to go to the bar to ask for a dessert menu and to ask that it be brought immediately as we had a curtain in 15 minutes. The food was delicious as usual and we hope that the service was an aberration. We look forward to returning."

Three items (wine and sides) were
billed at $1 more than indicated on menu. No big deal at such reasonable prices but still somewhat annoying. Overall, good Italian fare and on the same block as several theater venues."
Dined on 9/23/2013
Really liked the pasta with
seafood dishes. Everything seemed of good quality and prepared with care. The only issue I can think of is that the restaurant only takes American Express or cash. There are no other choices of payment that I know of."

Made a reserv. for 4. First
impression was not good. The guy who greeted me at the door spoke no English - this is a big no-no for me. The hostess arrived I asked for the garden, which I had reserved. She said it was not avail. due to a private party. I had never seen the alleged garden - so I went back to take a look. She told me I couldn't go back there but I went anyway - just to see for 5 seconds. It is just a dining room with a large skylight - no "garden". Now she was mad and kept trying to seat me by myself. I said I would wait outside and she gave me serious attitude. The decor is very tacky with "gold" painted chairs and dark woods. Nothing like the old days. We left and had a great meal in a real garden at Gnocco on 10th."

Very classy place with a great
seafood menu as well as good old-fashioned Italian stand-bys. The waiter wonderfully described the specials and checked in regularly. Everything from the bread spread to the pasta to desert had that hand made feel, not like the corner pizzeria dishes sitting on the heating tray all day. Very satisfying!"
Dined on 8/29/2013
Compared with other Italian
restaurants in NYC, the food was average. They ONLY accept AMEX or cash - so I will not return."
Dined on 8/24/2013
Unfortunately my sense is that the
food continues to degrade. The taste was simply below par. Don't know why but probably will not go back for a very long time although I really like the laid back ambience"
Dined on 8/14/2013
The food was good, this place had
been around for a long time. But why do they only accept Amex or cash?"
Dined on 8/11/2013
My dinner, home made ravioli with
zuccini, ricotta, and mozzerella, was perfect because the chef had no problem making me a brown butter amaretto sauce instead of the marinara advertised in the specials. The grilled eggplant with the roast red pepper couli, smoked mozzerella, and home made pesto was outstanding. My wife's dinner, a box rigatoni with a inedible concoction of tomatoe sauce, capers, red peppers and something unrecognizable, was so al dente that it would have shattered had she dropped one on the patio. The waiter, who was also horrified; offerred her another choice and when she refused, brought her a gratuitious piece of store made cheesecake. He did not however, offer to take her dinner off the bill. Aug. 5, 2013."

I used a Living Social voucher (I
would not suggest b/c there's a limited menu w/ LS voucher, anything ordered outside of the limited menu is extra). My bf and I had a 4:30pm reservation on a Friday & we were literally the only people there which we didn't mind. The place does get a LOT more lively after 5/6pm. The restaurant is kind of dark, old school Italian kind of vibe, but comfy for the most part. The food is good, but portion sizes aren't that great. My bf and I ordered the seafood & regular lasagna ($12) & the portion is about the size of an avg woman's hand and it's not accompanied by anything. Seriously no garlic bread at an Italian restaurant? We had a bottle of wine and that was decent. There is a full bar. Overall 3 out 5."
