Instead, it is modern Italian cuisine with some unexpected combinations. The mussels appetizer and quail were especially good. They offered a small side dish of polenta with a brown butter drizzle...heavenly and rich...good for sharing. Cocktails were great...they came with a single gigantic clear ice cube! I kind of wish there was bread to sop up the incredible sauce from the steamed mussels. (BTW, it a large enough portion to serve as an entree. Or for two or more to share as an appetizer.) My only regret is that I didn't give it a chance sooner. The food is creative...always executed on point...and always delicious. We usually get a variety of small plates, drinks, and dessert. I also appreciate the details. The drinks from the bar are handcrafted and original. Also, sometimes great restaurants drop the ball when it comes to dessert, but not the case here. With tickets to the symphony, we had early reservations, but by the time our entree was served, the restaurant appeared to be full. Although not quiet, the noise level was low enough to comfortably have private conversation. The freshness of the food was clearly evident. The flavors were light and delightful. Service was perfect: welcoming, attentive to our needs without hovering. Sharing was not a problem so we could expand our experience. The Italian wine we selected was a perfect pairing for our Italian sea bass and scallops. They expect amazing things from Asheville restaurants, and Cucina did not disappoint! The four of us had salads, the chicken liver fois gras appetizer (possibly the BEST appetizer I've ever had) chicken specials, pork chop dinner and a pizza. While every dish was outstanding, the guys were trying to figure out how to copy the pork chops at home. Good luck with that. What a fantastic find! We enjoyed dinner at Cucina 24 and will say this restaurant hits every mark. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine, the UGA caviar, cheese board and radish plate. The cheese board made our night (maybe even our entire trip to Asheville)! We were presented with 3 lovely cheese which, to our surprise, were accompanied by hazelnuts, pistachios, pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds, freshly sliced apples and little crispy rye toasts. The radish plate was billed as “radish, house butter and sea salt.” A moderate description so we figured, what’s the worst that can happen? Holy cow! The radish plate was divine!
