Cuba Libre features a contemporary interpretation of traditional Cuban cuisine and a broad base of authentic Cuban cocktails, including the largest selection of rum in Philadelphia. The restaurant’s interior has a beautifully weathered historical feel. The materials combine warm mahogany and oak, cracked tile, painted plaster, exposed concrete and brick, and iron railings. With iron balconies overlooking a courtyard, a dramatic 30-foot ceiling, and paddle fans turning lazily, the space looks and feels like a street in Old Havana in the mid 1950s.Continued

  • "love the decor, as if you were sitting out on a patio in Havana. Some nice posters and signage contributed to the atmosphere. Too loud for my preference, and not even sure if it was due to music or not. More likely due to design as a loft. Food was excellent with a lot of true Cuban dishes, but most everything had some kind of bite or spicyness to it, which is a Caribbean thing and not Cuban. Wish I had one near me."

  • "Although we had a reservation at 6 and arrived on time, we were made to wait for seating in an empty restaurant and finally shown to our seats at the back of the room, between the kitchen door and the restrooms. We of course objected and were then directed to go upstairs. We said we wanted to eat in the main dining area which was empty. We were finally given a table. This whole negotiation took about 10 minutes or so. From what the usher told us, Open Table decides where to seat the customers who make reservations on line. She told us to make the reservations directly with the restaurant if we wanted to have better seating. If that is true, I think you've got a problem."

  • "Our food was amazing when we finally got what we ordered. One of us was served the wrong meal so we all waited to eat until he was served. Of course the rest of our meals were then cold as a result. The ravioli filled with squash and cheese was incredible! The server was friendly and apologetic. It was a busy Saturday night. The appetizers were amazing (buñuelos and ceviche). We tried rice pudding for dessert but that wasn't anything special. I would definitely go back but I would focus on the appetizers."

  • "Very happy with service and food was delicious, just be prepared to wait a little, we had a 8oclock reservation and we're not able to be seated until 8:45 which wasn't horrible since we were able to wait at the bar and had the most amazing mojitos"

  • "Waited more than 15 minutes by the bar, pretty much crushed among other people waiting, for our reserved table for 6 and then another 25 minutes before our server took our order. A fan was blowing cold air and we had to put our coats on, for which they apologized profusely. The meal was good, from appetizers through dessert and coffee, but not as good as it used to be a few years ago. The noise level was pretty insane and we gave up trying to have a conversation; this is one of the worst restaurants in that regard, so if you want to chat with your dining partners, this isn't the place to go. We'll still go here occasionally, but it isn't the "go-to" restaurant for us anymore. For an almost $400 tab, we expect more."

Cuba Libre has some seriously tough competition in Philly for the best Cuban restaurant, but it not only rubs shoulders with the best of the best, it surpasses them in some ways. The Cuban sandwich is hands-down the best I've had in the city. The bread is special; I don't know how or why but it's godly. It's pressed perfectly; the whole package is sensational. The staples (plantains, ceviche, yuca fries, guac, etc.) are well prepared. The entrees are attractive and the ones I sampled were delicious. I enjoyed that kid's menu mirrored the main menu's fare because it allowed me to sample the food my daughter left behind for a broader sense of the whole experience.. Will definitely, eagerly return."

  • "We went to Cuba Libre to celebrate my Birthday. We had eaten there once before and were extremely pleased with the food and atmosphere! I am a vegan, and I was able to eat some small plates. Their bread with Mango butter is delicious, as was their plantain and guacamole appetizer. Many of the small plates were great! I was disappointed in a small mushroom plate that was much better last time. I also thought that the desserts were somewhat over priced and not as good as the rest of the food. The meat eaters seemed very happy with their dinners. I would go back a 3rd time."

  • "Took a date here and tried the chef sampler which included small portions of something like 4-5 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts. Even though it says it is for 1 person we ended up splitting one for $40 and could not finish it. Drinks are all $10+. The end bill ended up being around $100 plus tip. The ambiance was good and I love latin music so I was vibing out to that during dinner. Overall good experience."

  • "Fantastic food, exceptional server. His name is Ryan, I believe? Top notch - really knew what he was doing, both from a technical/food standpoint as well as taking care of us. One of the best servers I've ever had at a restaurant. I am a vegetarian, and the 2 other people who dined with me are not, so they did the tasting. The 15 tastes of Cuba for $39.99 is a steal deal. Great variety, tons of food, great price, and just an all-around obvious pick (assuming you eat meat). Plenty of vegetarian options too, and all exceeded my expectations. Great atmosphere in the restaurant - trees, decorative fans, high ceilings, etc. The way it's set up makes it the perfect spot for a casual dinner, but also a great choice for a special occasion."

  • "I had the steamed mussels and pork empanadas for dinner and both met expectations. The empanadas were not too greasy or spicy and the mussels broth was so delicious I continued eating it after I was finished eating the mussels. I also enjoyed the guacamole with pineapple and plantain chips as an appetizer, which was plenty small for 3 but would have been great for 2. Prices are high for drinks so I only got one, but they are worth it. Would recommend dining with a group later in the evening so you can stick around for dancing after 11pm."

  • "There were six of us. It was a special dinner out that I was hosting. My guests both run non-profits and I wanted it to be a special evening for them. The food was wonderful and well explained. We had one little hiccup with one of the wait staff but I am not going to describe it here because she apologized once it was brought to her attention. I appreciated that. If you are looking for a good Cuban experience you should give Cuba Libre a try."

  • "This was our second visit to Cuba Libre and an even better experience than the first. Our waitress Rita was superb- engaging and helpful. I had the Tasting menu which included plantain and taro chips with three different dips, a sample of four appetizers, three entrees (with sides of black beans, rice and platanos),two desserts, and the most delicious coffee. I chose to also get wine pairings with my meal. Needless to say, it was too much food, even with my husband helping me eat the chips and appetizers. My husband had the Taste of Havana, which included a Cuban sandwich, black bean soup, and a salad- also a lot of food. As much as we enjoyed all the different choices- and ,boy, did we, we could have easily shared my meal and been full."

  • "We had brunch for 5 at noon on Sunday. We had made a reservation but did not specify seating. The food was interesting, different and very well prepared. W had several apps and some main courses. All portions were small, but we like that; allows one to sample a variety of foods. We were seated in a room in back of the main room, which has the plants and the high ceiling, very airy and beautiful. Our room was darkish and plain, although much more quiet than the main. It's a trade-off. We could go back and take guests again."

  • "Went here with my wife for a romantic dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We made reservations through open table which was a brilliant move as the place was mobbed. Highlights include the rum bar, empanadas and main courses, all delivered in a very timely manner and visually as well as gastronomically appealing. My only criticism lies in the seating. As a person who suffers from occasional lower back pain, the outdoor type seating found throughout the restaurant had my back aching by the end of our experience. So, go in knowing that you're in for a great night of food and drink, but may walk out with a sore back."

  • "My friends & I dined on a Friday after work. We arrived & there weren't many diners. We were taken to the upstairs dining room where there were 3 ladies seated at one table & a young lively group at the bar. Our waiter was really attentive, nice & helpful with ordering. We shared appetizers: tostones, grilled baby octopus, calypso shrimp & scallops, all yum! I had mango mojito shrimp & it was good just not what I expected taste wise. It tasted like it came straight off a backyard grill (which I would have loved if that were what I expected) no hint of mango or citrus at all. My friend had the churrasco a la cubano which she raved about. My other friend had salmon, can't really go wrong. For dessert we all had tres leches, meh. I'd go again."

  • "This restaurant is amazing. I have been to Havana and this restsurants decor is exactly what I remember seeing there. We visited Cuba Libre on a Tuesday night which is TAPAS Tuesday. $26.00 buys all the TAPAS you can eat the list of TAPAS is extensive and as each one is presented to you the server will tell you what it is you are eating. There was an additional charge for the cerviche but feel worth the fee. Service was excellent and friendly good selection of wine by the glass. I will return to Cuba Libre the next time I visit Philadelphia."

  • "8:30 reservation & our table wasn't ready until close to 9:30. When we sat there were several empty tables. The bartender & server were nice. We both found dinner very salty. I had the skirt steak. The blk beans were great. My husband had the Paella. The menu stated it takes extra time to prepare. I assured my husband, who has never had this traditional dish, he would not be disappointed. When our main course was served, I was disappointed for him. It was not a traditional paella. It was a very small serving that include small sized seafood. The drinks were ok. I had a traditional mojitio. It was extremely sugary. I requested the next to be light on the simple sugar &!it was so much tastier. All and all it was just an ok dinner."

  • "Ordered from the tapas menu as opposed to the strictly entrees. My date and I were thoroughly impressed for the most part. Presentation and quality of the food and drinks were great, although we did order two small plates that didn't quite do it for us. If I am to come up with one complaint, it would be that our waiter's attentiveness level was slightly below satisfactory...this despite the dining room not nearly being at capacity. Overall, however, it was a good experience and we'll likely dine here again."

  • "I've dined at Cuba Libre a few times and it's always been a pleasant experience. The ambiance is fun and really captures the Cuban vibe. The food has never disappointed me and it's always been extremely good. The mango butter that comes with the bread basket is delicious!! The classic mojito is refreshing, but the mango mojito is perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, I've gone to Cuba Libre for a date night with my fiance, late night dinner with friends and brunch with family. I never leave disappointed."

  • "This was our second time here. I remembered liking it the first time but realized I actually loved it the second time around! Food was incredible (the four of us couldn't decide what to order). Our server was awesome especially when one of our guests had strict dietary restrictions. Our server did everything she could to explain what was in every dish to our gluten-free, lactose intolerant friend with such patience and friendliness. We stayed really long chit chatting after we finished eating but no one rushed us out even though it was getting very busy on a Saturday night. The service was quick and friendly!"

  • "Our first time at Cuba Libre and we will be going back - hopefullt to check out the night scene. We got the guac app and the guac itself wasn't so great but the plantain chips were fantastic. I ordered the Vaca Frita (flank steak) which was great and my boyfriend ordered the pulled pork entree and it was definitely something neither of us have tried before (to be honest I don't even know what was in it - mashed potato and some green sauce and something like coleslaw), regardless he enjoyed it but I was not a fan. Our mojitos were amazing - definitely recommended! The service was average - nothing spectacular. Just wish our server would have explained the menu to us and made suggestions as we saw other servers doing for their guests."

  • "I came here with my boyfriend for the very first time, and I had such a great experience. I had always wanted to try seafood paella, and I had seen on the online menu that this restaraunt had it, so i ordered it, and it was amazing! The flavor came out real nicely, and I really enjoyed the scenery. The place is dimly lit with candlight, so it definitely gives that romantic vibe. I give this place a 10, and would definitely come again."
