A word from Cuba Libre Restaurant & Rum Bar
Cuba Libre features a contemporary interpretation of traditional Cuban cuisine and a broad base of authentic Cuban cocktails, including the largest selection of rum in Philadelphia. The restaurant’s interior has a beautifully weathered historical feel. The materials combine warm mahogany and oak, cracked tile, painted plaster, exposed concrete and brick, and iron railings. With iron balconies overlooking a courtyard, a dramatic 30-foot ceiling, and paddle fans turning lazily, the space looks and feels like a street in Old Havana in the mid 1950s.Continued

  • "Great atmosphere with a definite Cuban style. The food was excellent and they provide many drink and food options. The staff was excellent and his (Ryan) recommendations were spot on. Highly recommend!"

  • "We were first seated next to a large group party and it was loud in that back corner. Upon request, the hostess moved us to a quieter location in the main dining room with an excellent view of the incredible interior that looks like a street in Havana! Thank you! We chose to go the Tappas route - allowing us to have six different menu items. All the items were excellent - but almost all seemed overly salty to me. I had three different flavored mojitos, all of which were excellent. The main dining room really makes you feel like you are eating outside on a street in Havana. Excellent atmosphere, although the dining room is loud. This is not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. I highly recommend Cuba Libre."

  • "The service was great and so was the food. Our server Ryan was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and recommendations. Definitely will be going there again! !!!!!"

  • "This is my favorite go-to spot in Old City; the atmosphere is always vibrant, and their food is delicious! I could eat the Levanta Muerta soup and Yuca fries every day. The staff is extremely accommodating and always friendly, and their drinks (especially the caipirinhas) are great. I have taken friends and family there numerous times, and also go with my boyfriend on weekends, especially when they have dancing at 11. One last thing to add - that mango butter is seriously addictive!"

  • "going for lunch was extremely pleasant, in large part because it was quiet enough to have a conversation. I would give it outstanding for menu except they don't have ribs for lunch."

  • "Very disappointed with the limited lunch menu. I had family visiting from Italy and was hoping to impress them with the usually exceptional Cuban cuisine."

  • "Used to love this place but had horrible service. Waited 20+ min just to get our drinks and order anything. It wasn't so crowded that it warranted that wait."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Our server was more than helpful when we were making our tapas decisions. All the food came out at a great pace and was delicious. We heard about an "all you can eat" brunch and can't wait to go back and try it."

  • "Requested a quiet table. And they did very good with the request THe service was attentive and helpful without being overdone. The food was great will be sure to return."

  • "I dined here with a group of 5 friends this weekend. The atmosphere was great. We were indoors, but since it's so nice and open inside, it almost felt like we were dining on an outdoor terrace. Could be romantic if I just went with my husband. It was fairly loud where we were seated, since there was a bachelorette party literally at the table next to us. The food was pretty bad. We ordered 3 tapas per couple, and only one was fairly good. The empanadas were tasty, the guava rubs had good flavor but had tons of fat and hidden tiny bones to spit out. The meat platter was all fatty and didn't taste very good. The guacamole was the worst I've ever tasted. It was sour and slimy. The mojitos had delicious flavor, but almost no alcohol."

  • "The interior décor is exotic and beautiful. My wife and I went here expecting the place to be romantic. However, the setting is more like a bar and better for groups. It's not very romantic or intimate and tend to be loud. The food was good and well presented. The waitress was very knowledgeable and the service was attentive. I'd recommend this place if you're looking to hang out with your friends or guests but not for a romantic dinner."

  • "Tapas served quickly, making it easy to linger over each one without feeling rushed. Topped off with a special coffee."

  • "Cuba Libre never disappoints - the food is great, and the tapas brunch is a fantastic bargain - and a great way to try some dishes (grilled baby octopus anyone?!) that we otherwise might not be brave enough to order!"

  • "Brunch is tough, filled at most restaurants with look alike menus. Not so at Cuba Libre. The grilled pineapple mojito will break your mimosa habit, and the Coffee with steamed coconut milk will start your day with the right caffeine jolt without being too sweet. The menu offers many tapas-- from breakfast items like a grilled peanut-butter and banana sandwich, to brunch favorites like crabcake benedict, to more conventional tapas, like ribs with guava barbecue sauce-- interspersed with Cuban surprises like the mouthwatering warm spinach and goat cheese balls. Portion size and food quality are uneven-- some dishes are exceptional, while others, like the pancakes, mundane. But a beautiful place to catch a brunch that has no imitators."

  • "This was our second visit to Cuba Libre- the last time years ago. We just weren't that impressed with the food. The appetizers that we ordered weren't great and two people got steak which was fatty and hard to cut. We did have a great waitress though."

  • "Had dinner with a friend who grew up in South America and has traveled to Havana a number of times. She acknowledged that many items on the menu were very much like the food offerings found in Cuba."

  • "Great looking restaurant with Cuban theme. Menu looked interesting but the items we had were small servings for the price. Ie. 15.00 for 3 small empanadas. $9 plus for a small mojito of mostly ice. Hostess was distracted. Server was always rushed although serving few tables. Whole evening could have been better. "

  • "Very good food and drink. Music was too loud in the bar area so it spilled out into the dining area. Tables are very tightly packed "

  • "We had a special-occasion dinner with four people in our party - we had all been to Cuba and thought this would be fun. The menu offers so many different options - small plates or large, traditional or modern. All our food choices, which we made from all over the menu, were delicious. And so by the way were the mojitos, made from scratch as they should be. The decor is fun too."

  • "awesome Mojitos and Sangria, you can eat just tapas or try their entrees, the waiter Ryan was awesome steering and recommended several on target plates. the after dinner coffee with coconut milk and a shot of spiced rum perfect compliment. can't go wrong"

  • "The soup is like HEAVEN :-) But, we were in a hurry to make it on time to a show, and so had to ask to have our dinners, wrapped. I asked 5 times can they make the paella without peppers, as I am very allergic, and he said yes every time and even made sure with the kitchen. Sure enough, later on, I open the container to find a BOATLOAD of PEPPERS! :-( This is NOT the first time that if you ask for anything particularly omitted, that it DOES NOT HAPPEN> If you are allergic to anything, don;t expect them to remember to take it off. Just a warning."

  • "My family and I went there for brunch on a Sunday to celebrate my graduation. It was a great experience … we enjoyed the food, the ambience and the beautiful decor. Service was good as well. I was especially happy to see my parents enjoying the food, since they rarely eat cuisines outside Indian and Chinese."

  • "We had a great Mother's Day there but it was more because of the company than the food. Service was its usual level. It had been a while since we came and we usually do dinner; this was our first brunch. Some of the menu items did not appear as described on the menu so that was a little disappointing. I guess I am being harsh because the experience here is usually wonderful in terms of the food. I understand now that there might have been some changes in the kitchen. "

  • "Came here for mother's day brunch with my wife and daughter... The food was amazing and the service even better. Certainly not cheap but fair prices for tapas, but for a special occasion you'd be hard pressed to find a restaurant with a better combination of ambiance, service, and adventurous menu items. They even removed a menu item from the bill after we had eaten half and decided we didn't like it. We will most definitely be back"
