A word from Crux Cafe
Chef Stewart’s passion for cuisine was developed in his early days in South Philadelphia. He apprenticed at La Campagna in Cherry Hill where he eventually worked as a line cook, sous chef and finally Executive Chef. During his 16 years, Chef Stewart was awarded the “Wish Dish of the Year” five times, from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He also displayed his talent in many private events, including a private dinner for the renowned Chef Paul Prudhomme of New Orleans.
Chef Stewart’s philosophy embraces the principle that “cuisine should be simple, using only fresh ingredients, so you can let the freshness of the ingredients speak for themselves.” Embarking on a lifelong desire to own and operate his own restaurant, Chef Stewart has created Crux Café, a cozy BYOB set in Audubon, NJ.
The word Crux has the meaning of essence or most important part of something. In this case, it is the start of a café with great food and hospitality for all his guests.

We had friends in from out of town and were looking for someplace nice to go. My wife works with someone from the family who owns and runs Crux. We had never been there before but decided to take a chance. Great decision! We thoroughly enjoyed our night. The staff was great. Our wautress Lauren was personable and very attentive. We brought in a few bottles of wine which they chilled and opened for us. The food was delicious! We covered the spectrum from Mahi to Chicken to Tuna to Rack of Lamb. All were excellent. Great portion size and presentation. The desserts were fantastic especially my flourless choclate cake...Wow! Prices were very reasonable at about $25 a plate. We would definitely recommend Crux to others and I look forward to going back there myself!!

Don't mean any offense but Crux Café does not a Diners Choice in any way in South Jersey nor Philly. Food is good if OK good. Not special. Onion Soup was sweet, wedge salad lacked dressing, eggplant rollatini wasn't rolled and wife's chicken schnitzel was certainly unspectacular. In summary, I think the chef owner gives a good effort and this should be a very good neighborhood restaurant where you learn what to order but not a destination restaurant. It was a destination for us based on Open Table Review as Diners Choice but did not live up to billing. Best to let locals enjoy this chef on a good day.

The 3 course Thursday Throwback menu is a wonderful. If you can, make an effort to take advantage of it. There are 5 selections all of which are tempting - my wife had the chicken pot pie entree and bread pudding dessert - and she was thrilled. I had the beef stroganoff entree and the flourless chocolate dessert, both were outstanding.

Our party of six was warmly greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. As is often the case, Chef Stewart came to the table to introduce himself and chat with his diners. Several of us had the potato leek soup which was served piping hot and very tasty. Onion soup was also hot and delicious, as was the fried calamari. Five of the six in our group enjoyed the Tuesday special of Surf & Turf, and all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. One person had a strip steak which was quite plentiful and cooked to perfection. Because we were celebrating a birthday, we brought in a small cake, so this trip we didn't try any of the desserts.

Not Cheap, but not expensive... your getting your value with the quality of the food, the presentation, the portion size and the great staff. Clean... and my biggest pet peeve... the wine glasses provided are spotless... I love the attention to detail. We love this place! The food is always on par, Definately an eye and taste on detail. The owners are very personable, always following up making sure your meal was to your satisfaction. A lot of regulars, taken in consideration location. They just had their 1 yr anniversary, kudos! That's difficult in today's times to accomplish, especially if your not a chain. However, it's easy to do if you offer what Crux does. They always have intriguing, delicious specials. Like the other night there was beer battered fried cod with homemade Mac and cheese. I don't usually go that route, but that night glad I picked that road......yummmmm!! They have everything, pasta, meat, seafood. (Tuna-incredible!) Desserts...gotta try!! Save room, worth it.

My husband and I went with another couple to Crux Cafe to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We go out to dinner once a month with this couple, and we love to try different restaurants in the area. Our friends introduced us to Crux Cafe when we went out in August, and we loved it so much we decided to go back for our respective wedding anniversaries. What a lovely evening! Even though it was rather busy for a Thursday night, the service was still excellent, and the food fantastic. It was another excellent meal and a lovely evening in this gem of a restaurant.

Here is a family run, neighborhood, small BYOB with sophisticated preparations that could compete in Manhattan. The atmosphere is clean, contemporary, but warm and lively. The table cloths, oversize dishes, wine buckets, warm and varied breads, and elegant plating of foods all show the attention to detail necessary for a special experience. The noise level is ideal for conversation. No blaring canned music. Attentive, friendly service without a single (hated) "is everything alright"? Varied ingredients and some "twists" on the usual choices, but nothing weird. Chef owned and operated. Easily a Michelin one-star! Don't miss it.

We discovered this restaurant on one of their Throwback Thursdays: 3 courses for less than $20. But the comfort food favorites were nobody's idea of "home style" food. The Beef Stroganoff on noodles I ordered was one of the best I have ever tasted. The meat was amazingly tender and the sauce was a rich wine infused delight. We returned for a family birthday celebration. Even my Philly based foodie son was quite impressed. He labeled it a winner. Everything was superb and the wait staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Finally, I am disabled and often find restaurants inaccessible. Not only did the restaurant have a handicapped accessible entrance, but one of the staff waited by the front entrance to lead me to it. 5 of 5 stars!

The waitress was very pleasant and capable. The restaurant is charming and comfortable. A new menu was offered and it was difficult to choose an entree. Gone were some of the more adventuresome food and in their place were some safer options. Instead we had summer salads which were delicious. Filled with a plethora of ingredients, it melded together well. In addition. I had the sweet potato soup. It was a star. Seasoned correctly, it was one of the best soups ever. My wife had the scallop with risotto. She gave that 5 stars. The risotto alone was worth the visit. The disappointment was the seafood cocktail. It was not served chilled and the fish wasn't as tasty as I expected.

We enjoyed a very good meal at this well-run BYOB somewhat off the beaten path. It is a very pretty restaurant and the hostess and waitstaff are friendly, professional and welcoming. The food is very good and served beautifully; potato soup was excellent, tuna and salmon prepared exactly as requested and there is a nice dessert tray as well. Even though 2/3 of the restaurant was occupied by what appeared to be about a thirty person wedding party, the noise level was quite reasonable and our food came out as quickly as could be expected. Very impressive and we will enjoy returning.
