Diner Reviews
  • "As usual our food was excellent; however the local grown beef (New York steak) was not to the Capt. Cook standards. Flavor was satisfactory however texture and consistency was not what one would expect with a well-aged beef. Flavor was good but not savory as is normally the case with the Crows Nest."

  • "Preparing for a restaurant experience as such, every detail would be expected to be flawless. Staff/food/ambiance/ and view. My worries that day due to the unfavorable weather were going to lack one of the great qualities that the Crow's Nest offers. That was not the case at all. If you are hesitant to make reservations due to this limitation, I would highly suggest continuing. Even though the absolute tops of the mountains were not to be seen, it still did not limit a breathtaking experience. Every other detail is within the control of Crow's Nest and was exceptional!!! • "I took my wife to the Crow's Nest for her birthday and it was everything I could have hoped for. The food and wine was amazing and the courses were perfectly timed to not crowd our table. Our server was very friendly, very professional, and had amazing recommendations for pairing the wine we picked with the soup and entree selections. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family who are looking for fine dining in anchorage."

  • "...and wonderful flexibility of the wait staff, who accommodated a last minute "birthday dessert ush" when 4 friends joined us unexpectedly. Kimberley cheerfully accommodated us all, deftly separated the bills, and quickly accommodated the requests of all. DINNER My husband writes, "The Alaska King crab legs were wonderful and the portions were ample and filling. The swiss chard was a great accompaniment. And I stuck with the IPA suggested by the hotel desk manager, Hunter, who'd had a good discussion with me earlier about my favorite IPAs." I ordered the tri-tip steak, which, along with a wonderful flavor and tenderness, was large enough to share with my husband and"

  • "For our last week in Anchorage, it was lovely to dine with a beautiful view a chance to spot where we had visited and notable places. Thank you for a wonderful memorable evening."

  • "If you want to dine with a grand slam view of Alaska, dine here!"

  • "I have lived in Alaska for 45 years and the Crows Nest has always been the pinnacle of Anchorage dining. Unfortunately, things change. I took my family of four to dinner to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Although the restaurant was not crowded the waitress appeared hurried and inflexible. Milosc, a pleasant gentleman, served us a small sample of delicious butternut squash bisque accompanied with delicious olive rolls. We felt pampered to begin with. And then things got worse.... All salads weren't brought WITH our dinner as requested. The waitress said it was too burdensome on the staff. The salmon was cold in the center, beet salad was TINY, veggie entrée was comical, all was overpriced. The view, as always, was wonderful."

  • "The crows nest was awesome! Great scenery and food, and the wait staff was really helpful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a romantic dinner with a fantastic view."

  • "The Capt Cook once again does not disappoint! Every part of the meal from the amuse bouche to the oysters to the rabbit trio was prepared perfectly and a gastronomic delight! The chef did a wonderful job of pairing different flavors on each plate (without having too much). The views, service, and food were excellent. And the sommelier, Thomas, is fabulous. We gave him a general idea of what we like and what we were willing so spend and he recommended one of the best wines we have had and for $50 less than we were willing to pay! I also appreciate the fact that they took notice of the note I put in the booking about attending a concert to make sure we stayed on a good timeline."

  • "Crow's Nest is one of my wife and my favorites. Service is always solid. Food generally quite good. Views are the best in Anchorage, perhaps al of Alaska. I had the elk, which was quite good. My wife, the seafood dish, which was also excellent."

  • "This was our first visit to the Crow's Nest, for a special occasion, and we were very pleased with our selection. We had a gorgeous inlet view from the 20th floor of the Cap't Cook Hotel watching the sunset as we dined. The service was outstanding, the food was a work of art, and our special occasion ended with special memories."

  • "Seated at 645pm, couple nearby came at 7; they were not drinking any alcohol and had leisurely dinner, and left when we got entree. We finished at 915pm. 2 of 4 of us ordered drink; servers checked drinks every 10-15 min while we waited well over an hour to get entrees; restaurant not packed. Suspect if we did not order a glass of wine we would have been served much quicker. Brought one bun each to snack on for the 1+ hr wait. They no longer provide any children friendly entrees; used to do mac & cheese; also short-order fried stuff from Fletchers - always a life saver with kids. Server adamant that mac and cheese was off the menu. Split a steak with my 10 yr old son who was not excited about fancy entrees. Nice real estate, bad service."

  • "As expected, high-class restaurants serve food made with incredible artistry, quality, and thought ... and with small portions. This might be disappointing for some, but my palate is sophisticated enough to know that this makes it possible to sample more of what the experience has to offer. We've lived in Alaska outside of Anchorage for nearly forty years, and never been here for anything other than a cocktail. The Nest attracted us because of its view, service, dress code and reputation as a place to enjoy a splurge. If I want a hearty meal I will go elsewhere. But when we want to feel like Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, this is the place to go."

  • "Great environment and scenery. We have been here for 2.5 yrs and didn't even know about the crow's nest. Thanks to our coworkers who recommended them. Initial look at the menu prices was expensive but you get a good amount of food for the price...we'll worth the money."

  • "Our overall dining experience was excellent. We have no reason to express displeasure to anyone or not return ourselves. Our only negative, and it is a small one, is that the server passing out the bread left one roll each. It would have been nice if he'd left us more or asked if we more later on. It wasn't until the drive home that my wife and I talked about our experience that we both shared this thought."

  • "Took my husband here as a birthday surprise.Staff was aware and even wrote a wonderful card for him. The problem was the seating. I would have preferred somewhere quiet for just the two of us. Instead had to sit by three very loud, self-absorbed guys. It ruined our intimate evening. Also I'd asked previous to arrival for champagne but this was never done. I didn't complain because I assumed they'd sent it to our room since we were staying at the hotel. That was not the case. All in all, not the romantic surprise I had intended but the food was amazing and the service was terrific."

  • "We are aware that the Crows Nest is usually amazing or 'meh' depending on the which chef is working that night. The food was amazing, but fell short due to the incredibly SLOW service!!! I know it was a busy Friday night, but that should be nothing new for these seasoned professionals. We were at our table for close to 4 hours. So if you are in no rush, perfect. We had to ask for everything along the way...menus, bread, & even to place our order. There were times that I felt our waitress was in another building (along with the sommelier.) The food was high quality, but sat in the window far too long before making to our table, making it a 'miss'. The 'junior' sommelier was not up on his wines on the 'new' or 'old' list."

  • "The food was not great but it was good. There weren't a lot of options on the menu and it is mostly seafood. The service and atmosphere was wondeful!"

  • "We were dining there for my husbands birthday and it was perfect. We both had wonderful meals, our server was very friendly and knowledgable and helpful. At the end of our dinner, the Fur Rondy fireworks started and we had the best view of the city. It was a perfect night out."

  • "The food here is excellent, though the menu is definitely different. The ambiance is very quiet and personal, which is good but it seems to naturally make people talk quietly. That can make it difficult to hear what the employees are saying, especially when they are using unfamiliar words for food preparation. I only had two issues. The personnel were somewhat slow at refilling drinks when you consider the tab of $150 for two people. And they sat my date and I in a u shaped booth big enough for six, which hampered the personal feeling of the resteraunt. Otherwise it was very good and well worth the money."

  • "I took my wife for our anniversary celebratory dinner. The food was excellent, the services was outstanding, and the view was phenomenal. Our reservations were just after official sunset, therefore we were able to look out across the city at the change from daytime to nighttime. We had a fantastic time. I recommend the Elk with Bone Marrow. :)"

  • "Where the ambience was nice the noise level of other guests was a bit high. The server was knowledgeable of the menu itself but not how the meal was to be prepared. He was not very attentive to us in general, seemed preoccupied. The food was delicious, cooked well, portions were small and the presentation was good. However we were not expecting full anchovy fillets on top of the Caesar salad. Was not appealing at all unless one really likes eating the fillets separately. We felt the cost of the alcohol/wine selections were a little high. The view was spectacular and the facilities were extremely clean. I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I brought our daughter to the Crow's Nest for her 18th birthday. Our waiter was very attentive and recommended items we might like to try. He was knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The view was spectacular. The food was amazing and well timed. Our daughter was even surprised with Happy Birthday being written in chocolate and a candle with her dessert. When we asked her later, she said it was "The best birthday ever!" Thank you to everyone at the Crow's Nest for making our evening special. We will recommend the Crow's Nest to anyone looking for a memorable and special evening."

  • "A totally disappointing experience compared to previous one. Fresh oysters came with a melon sorbet which didn't cover not so fresh taste. Ordered prime rib eye, elk loin, both medium rare. Both came cooked rare. Were lukewarm. The texture of both meats were mushy and exceptionally salty. Lot of meat tenderizer. Bone marrow was covered with salt crystals, too salty. They offered a bottle of champagne when we visit again. We won't!"

  • "Food was alright, but not amazing. We ordered the oysters as an appetizer (interesting and different seasoning, but still tasty), seafood pasta (a little bland) and a halibut (good but nothing special). What this place does have is a great, unique view of the city, and a romantic setting. I was celebrating my anniversary, and we got a table against corner windows, which was great. I was hoping for some sort of special treatment for our aniversary, but didnt get any special attention. Service was very good and waitress did good job suggesting wine, but towards the end of the night, we felt a little neglected."

  • "A romantic get-away perched high above the Anchorage nightlife, the Crow's Nest lavishly welcomes guests with elegant, world-class dishes served by friendly, smiling staff. Our favorite dish of the evening was the 5-cheese appetizer, served alongside fresh berries, dried fruit, a variety of nuts, and fresh honeycomb - absolutely delicious."
