Diner Reviews
  • "Went there with family for pre theatre. 10 out of 12 dishes were outstanding, didn't care for the lobster bisque so much. Someone needs to tell them to TURN THE MUSIC DOWN! I realize it was Happy Hour but I think the owner should remind the bartender that it is a Tavern not a Nightclub, that is what the basement is for. My third visit there, will still do lunch."

  • "Very loud and noisy bar scene with no place to eat and enjoy some food. The menu is vey limited. Service was decent. Not a place to relax at all."

  • "My girlfriends and I were pleasantly surprised when we ate here for lunch pre-theater. We truly enjoyed our food. I had the kale salad with seared tuna on top. It was delicious, healthy and very satisfying. We were short on time as our train was delayed, and they were able to get us out in plenty of time, even with ordering two courses. The only downside was the noise level."

  • "Been here twice and both times were not disappointed. Food is great. Service is Great and we were going to a show so there was not problem with getting in and out in time to get to the show early. Love this place will be sure to go again and again"

  • "We were looking for a brunch location near, but not in, the Times Square area. We had a great waiter, a great meal, and a great time."

  • "We had a very good brunch at Croton Reservoir Tavern. The food and cocktails were good and the service was wonderful. Would recommend."

  • "This little bar / restaurant is lively and fun. The food here is excellent; much better than typical pub fare. I had the salmon and my husband had the sirloin. Tasty !!! Would definitely recommend."

  • "Being our reservation was months ago in June 2013, it is hard for me to remember what we ordered. I can say that was our first night in NYC, so we were tired from travel and sightseeing. Our reservation was accepted and we were seated quickly. The place was busy, happily loud, our drinks were very good. I do remember they had an incredible Vodka list which caught my attention immediately. Never have I seen so many varieties in one establishment. Nice bar scene. I imagine this is a hot spot for locals getting off work in NYC."

  • "Not quite a bar, a step up from a coffee shop, this place serves a good function in a neighborhood where it can be tough to avoid chain restaurants or take-out. Their kale salad is quite delicious, and you can feel self-righteous about its being healthy. Or you can just get a burger and be done with it! Prices are not cheap, but you're paying for location."

  • "Great friendly service! The food is good for a bar and reasonably priced. Did a nice job for the Superbowl, as well!"

  • "We were a talkative group of four with lots of questions and distractions, and despite these challenges our server could not have been nicer or more effective. He was attentive and responsive, kept our various beverages and special requests coming quickly and checked in with us often without being a bother. The atmosphere was festive, the food delightful and the service outstanding. We will definitely be back."

  • "We were early for a 12:30 brunch reservation though we were not the bar's first arrival. So it seemed odd that the staff was initially in a fog. Not a deep REMS sleep by any stretch but definitely, I don't know...thoughtful yet inattentive. The Bloody Mary's we asked for were quite good once we got them. The water we were offered came after some unusual delay too. But it can be said that once everybody woke up the staff clicked. The food also took the long way out of the kitchen but once presented was hot, delicious and very filling. The staff was helpful when I asked for the almonds to be removed from my brownie sundae and coffee was served hot. I'll come back but later in the day."

  • "We came upon this place just because were were in the area. Granted the server was new (as she announced it was her first day) her knowledge of the menu was very, very lacking. The food was good, although the sweet potato fries were severely burned. Portions were large and filling, although it was odd that the menu did not have appetizers. A good place if you can't find anything else."

  • "I was researching a restaurant for my boyfriend and I to eat at before going to see a show on Broadway, as many reviews for the restaurants in the surrounding theater district area weren't so good. I wouldn't say that it is a romantic spot, as the bar and dining area are situated right next to each other, but the food is really very good, as are the drinks, which to me is important because I don't like spending money on a bad meal. We went on a Thursday night, so there were a lot of after work people catching drinks and dinner. The waiter was very attentive and friendly and our food came quickly. I recommend the FILET MIGNON TAGLIATELLE and SPINACH, ARTICHOKE, CORN DIP! I will definitely return again."

  • "I was shocked and dismayed as I entered Croton Reservoir Tavern - not as depicted online. Sports games were blaring and the more than rowdy patrons at and near the bar were ROARING!!! I would have walked out and let the reservation go, but the weather was bad and I did not want to look for another place. My friend and I were seated as far from the bar as was possible. The ROARING! flared up and died down throughout our meal. It was very difficult to hold a conversation. The service in general was a bit slow and not very attentive. The food was was nothing that couldn't be had in a million other places. So, if you're looking for a place to have brunch with a friend in the Bryant Park area where you can hear each other, keep looking."

  • "Somehow NYC Dept. Of Health grades should be a part of reviews. If a restaurant can't be in the top 55% of restaurants in the city in following health related guidelines then it makes you think what other corners are being cut."

  • "Excellent food, truly warm and thoughtful service. So glad we happened upon Croton Rservoir Tavern! We had excellent food all around, including our picky vegetarian and our grandson -- very good children's menu, unusual for NYC."

  • "This restaurant has been on my list for a reasonable business lunch for years. Since my tenure at Ralph Lauren, and I left in 2009, I still come back even though I work across from Grand Central. Any chance I'm in the neighborhood or have a Client in the area, I will suggest lunching at CRT. The lobster bisque is phenomenal, and service never an issue."

  • "This review is unfair since there were TWO holiday parties going on at the same time, the noise level was very high. There were five of us in a comfortable, corner booth. The booth had high backs, so it made it a little more intimate, however, was still difficult to talk to one another. I ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad to start, out of this world! Very good. Others ordered the Lobster Bisque and were impressed. I then had the Filet Mignon Pasta dish. It called my name due to the Horseradish sauce it was tossed in. I was disappointed as I did not taste any of that flavor. It was good overall and I would give it another shot, but would NOT order that dish again. Others had the seared Tuna dish and again were satisfied, but not WOWED."

  • "Went for lunch with my friend. We were seated downstairs and given the basement level, it was pretty comfortable. Very busy place and our server lacked any personality or friendliness. My friend and I both had the kale salad which was very good but they should use better quality canned mandarin oranges in it (they were tasteless). Also, soda does not come with free refills which at this type of place astounded me! That I ended up paying $30 including tip for a decent but not amazing lunch seemed excessive."

  • "I met an old friend for dinner at CRT. We were looking forward to "catching up" with each other. I was hoarse when I left from talking above the noise. The food, "Chicken Pot Pie" for both of us, was excellent. Our server was attentive and caring. Despite losing my voice, I would go back."

  • "Brunch at the Croton Reservoir Tavern was really good. There were a good number of selections on the menu, so there is something for everyone. The food was delicious. Our server did a great job and was very helpful. I'd highly recommend it."

  • "I can't say enough good things about Crotin Reservoir. A friend and I ate there on December 9, 2013. The waiter was personable and efficient. The menu is large enough to accommodate even the pickiest eater, but not expensive enough to break the bank! My filet mignon tagatelle was superb as was the spinach and artichoke dip we shared as an appetizer. The brownie sundae was enough to share and still feel like I had a full dessert. All in all a wonderful dining experience. The only downside is the tables are too close together. We wanted to sit downstairs where it's a bit more spacious, but it was closed for a private party."

  • "Booked this restaurant after reading reviews. We were welcomed warmly on a bitter cold night by cheerful staff. The friendly atmosphere with good background music hit you immediately. Fixed price menu average but worth the money, amazing turkey and well presented . Overall, we made a good choice"

  • "Croton fit the bill for hungry parade goers. Good was delicious and abundant. We were relaxed, encouraged to linger, and content with the entire experience. Even our special requests were honored. Would visit again."

  • "I ordered the traditional Thanksgiving spread. The turkey and gravy was juicy and tasted good. The stuffing came out very hard and shaped like a brick. I have never seen stuffing like this. The potatoes tasted like they were reconstituted. The veggies were cold. I had pumpkin pie for desert which was excellent. I don't fault them for being a little off on the good quality. Most restaurants don't do their best work in holidays. Was this meal for 3 worth $200? No, but I would try this place again in a non-holiday."

  • "This is a good place to have dinner or a drink after work in midtown Manhattan. Food is very good. Noise levels can be a bit high but one just has to find the right spot in the restaurant if you want a little quiet to have a conversation. It has become a reliable venue for me."

  • "Sunday brunch before theatre. Sat by front window. Service, food and overall good selections. Nothing negative to say. If you are looking for an easy place in midtown to eat on the weekend."

  • "The restaurant was smaller and more relaxed than expected based on the photo gallery, but still had a nice level of sophistication and very comfortable seating. A small, but very pleasing menu that covered all the basics. We enjoyed the Spinach Dip appetizer and Vegetable Rigatoni. Good selection of on-tap beers to be enjoyed while watching the football game on either the jumbo screen or one of several smaller screens around the perimeter of the restaurant. I was looking for a nice restaurant near the theaters to bring my college-age daughter to, with a good basic menu, fun atmosphere, and under $100. Croton Reservoir was a perfect choice."
