We went there for our weekend getaway. We were excited to taste the food created by Aaron Sanchez. Well the voodoo shrimp were good. But the jambalaya was awful! It didn't have any Cajun seasoning. Tasted more like tomatoes with bell peppers, something out of a can. The margarita was so watered down it wasn't worth getting another one. This place is overrated. If you have a choice go some where else. My husband said he needs more hands to give them more thumbs down as two aren't enough.

We went on Wed night to catch Anita DaBomb a local blues band. There is usually a band playing around 6:30pm to 11:00 pm so you can catch some music while you eat. The band was great, service was good and very friendly. The menu is pretty standard fare. We had Caesar salad with blackened shrimp and Chicken Quesadilla and it was all good.

I would not typically recommend a restaurant like House of Blues because they do not specialize in farm fresh or local food sources nor do they attempt to cover special dietary types in their regular menu. I do; however, recommend House of Blues when you have tickets for a performance there. The food is prepared with some concept to appearance and taste and the menu offers unique types of entrees. The quality is at least moderate to very good. The bar drinks are well done and include a few unusual types of microbrews and a very good hard cider as well as tasteful mixed drinks. Of course the music is the main reason for eating there is waiting nearby the music!

We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard to attend an evening event at Copley Symphony Tower and decided to walk next door for an early dinner here. Our server Holly was awesome. She knew the menu well, offered suggestions but did not oversell. The food prices on the Happy Hour menu were incredibly low and the food was really good. The bartender delivered great cocktails and we felt like we got our moneys worth. A nice band was just starting up when we left for our other event but sounded like one we would have enjoyed hearing. Overall we had a great experience with good food and great service and will definitely recommend and hopefully return. By the way the hotel was charming and a definite great place to stay.

  • Great bar... Not restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013

I expected more of a restaurant feel on the restaurant side. We had terrible seating in the "hall" next to the restroom when the dining room was empty so we moved to the couches and are with plates on our laps. Service was HORRIBLY SLOW and when the food can out the order wasn't right. I didn't send it back because We didn't have another 45 minutes to wait for a salad with no black beans... Really it was that terrible. Menu was a typical bar appetizer menu. Portions were large but selection was poor unless you wanted pizza wings or burgers. Not the experience I was looking for, but the concert after dinner was great and after all that's why we were there.

I recently joined my 16 year old daughter for food and fun at The House of Blues in San Diego. We have enjoyed the House of Blues in Disneyland for years. We were attending the New Politics concert and decided to dine as well. There were no VIP packages and if you had dinner at the restaurant prior to the concert you could go to the front of the line....YAY!! We had a lovely night. I ordered the Buttermilk Chicken- I have not have Fried Chicken for over two years!!! and my daughter ordered the Shrimp Poor Boy. Good food, fun and great band!!! Foodie :)

Enjoyed our dinner, Ivan did a great job with the service, it was early and no waiting. The pricing on Appetizers & drinks during Happy Hour is a super value. The Applewood Bacon wrapped Meat Loaf was very good and I loved the snow peas served as the vegetable. Wife had the Barbecue Slider as the Appetizer, which she has ordered before, but this time the barbecue was dry and there wasn't any cole slaw. The salads were very fresh and the combination of four types of lettuce, pecans, and dressing was very good.

My husband and I were staying in San Diego, and were told to go there by friends. There were families and young people there, we're in our sixties. This place is for all ages. Our food was very good I had the Fish Tacos and my husband had great tasting Burger this was during happy hour. At 7 PM a Jazz band came in and played. We stayed for the first set. We will return next time we're in San Diego.

Sat in the bar area facing TV's, not sure if that was the only thing available? More casual than we expected. Not the best service, yet very very quiet Sunday night. Bar was empty, took 20 min for my husbands beer to come. Good food, decent price. Grabbed a few things from the happy hour menu. All in all, a more casual group restaurant.

The shrimp and humus appetizer is a flatbread pizza with shrimp, humus and arugula and can serve as a main entree. It was very tasty and highly recommended by our server. A must have! We each ordered a different salad (flat iron steak and blackened shrimp). It was delicious and very satisfying. The service was top notch. New drinks were given to us when our drinks were half full, not at empty like most places. It wasn't too busy for a pre-concert dinner. We had enough time to see the show after dinner and not feel rushed. We'll definitely make a return trip to try other entrees.

The waitress was obviously trained in trying to upsell her customers but not trained in making it less obvious. It is unlikely my family will return. The experience in July was much better. If there could be some indication from the restaurant that the next time would be different, I might consider going again.

The drinks were amazing as was the happy hour pesto flatbread but beyond the friendly hostess and attentive server there isn't much. Unfortunately the quality of the food did not meet the cost of the dish. The open floor plan if indeed it had been packed may have added some heat but it was warmer under the heat lamp at te hostess stand then it was inside the building.

Went for a girls night out of food & concert... while the food was good, it was overpriced in the opinion of the 7 girls I was with. The most annoying thing was our waitress seemed more interested in becoming our best friend than serving us. She spent lots of time talking to us & we noted to other tables too instead of taking our order or paying attention to our requests. She was a very sweet girl but she needed to be more focused. I have eaten here many times tho & have not had that problem before so I am sure I will be back.

Reserved it for a work event on Friday night employee appreciation dinner before going elsewhere to catch a comedy show. Food was spectactular, best corn bread EVAR! I had the Lobster Mac N Cheese was better than I could've ever expected, could've probably used a litte more lobster for the price but was simply excuisite. I tried all the other dishes as well, the pork chop came on bed of squash and beans which was a lovely marriage of flavors I didn't expect to sing together as well as I expected. The meat loaf was a solid dish and wrapped in bacon how can you go wrong. NY Strip was a little pedestrian though that might have more to do with it being ordered well done than the cut itself. Overall a wonderful dining experience.

I frequent House of Blues for concerts and almost always eat at the restaurant prior to the event. Because we had a party of 5, I made a reservation for 6:00 pm. It was bit disappointing that we arrived exactly at 6:00 pm but still had to wait for a table to be set up for a party of 5. I would assume since we made a reservation, the table should have been ready. Do you not agree ???

I was nervous to eat here after reading negative reviews. I'd eaten @ Disneyland HOB & it was just OK. We ate here for the "Pass the Line" opportunity when you spend $20+ a person & it was DEFINITELY worth that at least. We got HH drinks--my vodka tonic was OK but my husband hated the whiskey coke. He enjoyed the signature drink he ordered afterward tho. HH chicken fingers didn't taste like anything, and my husband said his fried chicken was about the same. The sides are all good though, and my grilled chicken sandwich (like I had at Disney) was delicious and came just as I'd ordered without mayo/onions. Overall it's an OK place for dinner if you dont want to wait in line for the concert & dont mind spending $40

We had high expectations for the food at House of Blues because they tout Aaron Sanchez as the chef who created the menu. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf which was dry, dense and very salty. The serving of garlic mashed potatoes was about 1/3 the size of the meatloaf slice, not great tasting-blah. The saute'd veggies were OK, but dripping in oil that was not very appetizing. Overall a waste of money - $17.99! My husband had a 'juicy lucy" burger which he said was below average and very salty overall. Fries were boring. At $42 with the tip, this was not a cheap meal and so disappointing. Will not go back.

With all the great choices in San Diego I really regret this one. we where apparently not cool enough to garner attention from the staff. we asked if we could sit at the 4 top because the tables where so small. we where told it was "reserved" and stayed empty along with most of the other tables. The waiter forgot my side of vegetables and brought me a small cup or under cooed vegetables because he forgot i still go to pay the $4.00 charge for them. the food was pedestrian at best. over cooked chicken and raw veggies. the waiter would not pay any attention to us to do anything about it. this is a great of a place that is not worried about repeat business. Tourist beware!

Everything was perfect. Hostess allowed us to have the circular booth, better for my wife's back, even though I know it's probably a four or six top normally. My Shrimp and Grits were really outstanding - an unusual paring, but it worked. Arron is certainly onto something. All the food was prepared and presented well. Service was spot on technically, but more important was friendly and with genuine warmth. Just a great Friday Night dinner in the Gaslamp.

Arrived during HH, drinks & appetizers were reduced in price. Jalapeños & cheese corn bread reg. $7.99 was only $5 and well worth it. Served in a miniature cast iron skillet w/maple butter - delicious. Pulled Pork sliders reg. $9.99 was only $6 & wife said they were outstanding. Draft was only $3. Service was very good, but not without flaws. Energetic music and hand painted murals make for a great art, food & music collision. Arron Sanchez menu re-work, puts some very interesting spins on old favorites. Applewood Bacon wrapped Meat Loaf was perhaps the best I have ever had - of this old favorite and worth every penny of the $17.99 price. Plating was well done, artistic and current. Excellent value in the Gas Lamp, will return.

We went Saturday during Comic-Con and it was very quiet inside the restaurant with most people seeming to be at the bar or outside. We were one of two tables seated inside. Service was great - no shortage of people checking on us. Cornbread, steak salad and BBQ burger all delicious! Happy Hour prices through 7 were nice. We come here every once in a while and I'm sure it's much busier on show nights. We love looking at all the colorful art on the walls and listening to the great music.
