A word from Crossings
Crossings restaurant is located in the beautiful historic Edwards and Faw building on Mission St. in South Pasadena. The building was originally built in 1908. Crossings utilized the beautiful brick and mortar structure to inspire a classic American restaurant space. The downstairs dining room encompasses a fully open kitchen and 14 foot ceilings. A patio under a 100 year old oak sits right next to the Metro Gold Line, providing a truly urban space not easily found in LA. A wine loft sits between the first and second floors, offering a wide variety of wines to choose from. The second floor offers a full bar as well as raised booths and tables overlooking Mission St.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Took my husband and daughter tonight to experience dineLA menu. Everything was perfectly prepared. We had a reservation on the early side and were seated immediately, upstairs, in the larger room. The booth was perfect and our meal was well timed. No rushing at all. Also, our server, Mauricio, was attentive and knowledgeable. We all enjoyed our various first courses (burrata allowed for "perfect bites," BLT Wedge was crisp and quite a portion, and short-ribs so tender they melted), all savored the filet mignon which was prepared differently for each of us, and shared the two rich and fabulous desserts. And the rosemary bread was perfectly seasoned. We all left feeling well cared for, satisfied, and special. Thank you Crossings!"

  • "We came from LA to So. Pasadena for the dineLA Restaurant Week promotional. Excellent service. The promotional menu was also excellent."

  • "Food and service were excellent. A great place for dinner and in my neighborhood."

  • "Hospitality embodies not just food and wine, but the welcome you feel (or don't) as you enter the restaurant through the "thank you for coming and hope to see you again soon." Service here is superb; professional but personable. Wine by the glass is poured at table, temping artisan breads are offered throughout dinner service.. Food quiality was excellent and expertly plated. Ambiance combined the historic building with elegant artistic touches."

  • "My husband and I tried this restaurant with another couple. So glad we did! The atmosphere was upscale without being stuffy and we were able to carry on a conversation without shouting, which seems rare in restaurants these days. The service was attentive and our waiter was knowledgeable about the food and gave us a good wine recommendation. Started with a very nice watermelon martini, enjoyed a delicious salad with grilled peaches and burrata, ate every bite of a perfectly cooked and seasoned filet mignon and finished with terrific creme brulee. We will be back."

  • "After a late afternoon appointment, I checked on Open Table for some early dinner reservations. The menu read really well, so I booked it. Everything about this place was great! The food, service and storefront ambiance of Crossings went way beyond my expectations. I highly recommend it and will certainly make sure to come back whenever I'm in the area."

  • "Third visit; food, service, attention to detail continue to be excellent! Best swordfish ever!"

  • "Had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but was put-off by reports of loud music. We took advantage of DineLA to do an early dinner. The upstairs dining area was casually elegant. Music was good and not overwhelming...nice mix of styles. My daughter had the swordfish and BLT salad and the Blueberry Cobbler with Mascarpone. Delicious! I had the Grilled Peaches with Burrata Salad, which was excellent and the Filet Mignon, which was just okay, cooked rare as requested, but grey. The thyme reduction saved it. Creme Brûlée came with toasted meringue, but was much too sweet, so I scraped it off. In all, a good experience and will come back to try the full range of food. The ambiance is wonderful. Sophisticated but comfortable."

  • "A great place romantic dining. The wait staff was extremely attentive. The filet mignon (served rare) was better than anywhere. If you like oysters, try the Oysters Rockefeller."

  • "I brought my family to Crossings for a special occasion and we were treated to an amazing night. Our server Annie was phenomenal. I couldn't decide between the two vegetarian dishes and they actually let me order half orders of each. I've never had a restaurant do that, and especially one as nice as this. Great ambiance, extensive wine list, and foodies will be very happy. Definitely going to be returning here."

  • "Another fine restaurant in my neighborhood worth coming back to. Just come and enjoy the food and service. If you are a wine lover, you will love it more. Personally, I thought the Gold line is a little bit too close for comfort (You can almost touch the training as it goes by thus can be a little bid loud). Of course, this could be attractive for some."

  • "Our table of four friends had a terrific Friday night dinner. Swordfish was sublime, halibut yummy, apparently the veal chop was terrific. Melon/ prosciutto was delicious and different, spinach salad really really good. Not cheap but not stupidly expensive. I will go back often!"

  • "This was my second time o Crossings, I have talked this place up to many because there is nothing I do not like. This time Stephanie showed us the outside patio are, so very nice. I also like the seats at the end where the chefs cook, this is where you learn what is really happening. Another great feature is you can take the gold line from Pasadena and it will drop you off right across the street. All the more to come you do not have to drive or worry about a parking space."

  • "Has a great meal at Crossings. Great tasting with excellent presentations and service. Everything including special of the night, Veal Chop, cooked to perfection as ordered. Piquillo Pepper Sauce with the Black Cod was fantastic."

  • "FINALLY, South Pasadena has a restaurant that could be found on the West side...OUTSTANDING! We had the perfect evening. Thanks to everyone at Crossing for making our Friday night so special!"

  • "The Oysters Rockefeller was no where near New Orleans calibur, and my wife's entre, salmon, was slightly overcooked and lacking in flavor. The desert, a raspberry peach tart was only okay, and the salted caramel ice cream was pretty subtle, with barely a hint of either salt or caramel, and not coming even close to the salted caramel ice cream at Carmela Ice Cream. The waitress was very attentive, but the food was not worth the price tag."

  • "Excellent choice for our anniversary. Delicious fresh, local food with interesting preparations. Chicken with Moroccan spices was exceptional. Service thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive or having attitude. Prices a bit high but not unreasonable, and corkage is a deal at $15 these days. Modern, cool looking space, vibrant. Could be noisy if near the bar, but upstairs is perfect. Will return when ever in the area."

  • "We stumbled upon this place here on OpenTable and decided to give it a shot. Turns out that we took a chance and scored big time. The ambiance is romantic downstairs and a little more quiet, and upstairs it's a little more lively and upbeat. While no one was dining on the back patio on a Tuesday evening, it seemed liked it'd be a really nice place to enjoy a warm summer evening. The food was fantastic . . . we tried the pear and burrata salad, the filet mignon (south pasadena style), and the chicken. All was delicious. We also enjoyed fresh squeezed lemonades that were great. The service was also great--above and beyond what I was expecting, although I'm not really sure what I was expecting. Overall, loved it and will go back soon!"

  • "Although Crossings isn't new, it opened in the last year, so it's new to me. It is really a little upscale for South Pasadena (which I consider to be a mostly casual kind of town), but it isn't overstated. We were there for an early sitting on a Sunday afternoon, almost the only ones in the place, so it is a little hard to judge the service at busier times (it was filling up quickly as we were finishing). The food was outstanding and carefully served. The oysters were perfectly presented (I hate it when a restaurant doesn't train their staff to cut the oyster loose from the shell when they shuck them), these were done correctly. The dishes we chose were inventive and beautifully plated. We will definitely be back."

  • "My husband and I are foodies. We were in the restaurant industry in the past for over 10 years each (both servers/managers). However, we have been out of that industry for the last 6 years, but we carry with us, high standards when we go to almost any restaurant. With that said, I will go into my review. The décor was elegant and classic. The food was very good. The service could use a little work. Empty plates should not sit in front of patrons for more than 5 minutes, as ours sat for 15. We were the only two-top in the front of the restaurant and I felt we were getting less attention because of that. All patrons should be treated equally because we could bring in a larger parties on other occasions."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The wait staff was attentive and friendly, but not intrusively hovering. Our meals were (me-Halibut special and Joan-swordfish) very tasty, generous portions. The restaurant was recommended by 2 of our sons. We will return soon."

  • "It was my first time at Crossing; my friend had been there once before. We had early reservations so we had the entire staff to ourselves! We did ask that the music be turned lower which they did quickly. Our cocktails were acceptable. My friend asked for her entrée choice to be served somewhat differently than the menu had described and the chef was most accommodating. My entrée (halibut) was moist and flavorful; my friend's was delighted with her striped bass choice. The market salad was good but not all that interesting; the other starter was oxtail sliders which went over very well with my lady friend. Neither one of us ordered dessert."

  • "Wonderful ambience, great food and impeccable service. A real treat! The patio is really fun, with Gold Line trains zipping quietly by in the night. It's almost like being in New York, but better. "

  • "We liked the ambiance, the split level bar upstairs is cool; excellent drinks but the food is somewhat overpriced ... probably won't make this a routine outing."

  • "Crossings is a fabulous dining experience - every detail is attended - the seats are comfortable - the ambiance is inviting with great hospitality - the SWORDFISH is outstanding! Food presentation first rate. The proprietor is engaging and eager to make the experience memorable. Will definitely be returning. "

  • "My wife were celebrating a special occasion. we chose this restaurant based on local's recommendations. the dinner was fantastic and the drinks were very good. the ambiance was good and we never felt overcrowded. i would also go for drinks at anytime as they have two bars. i prefer the bar on the second floor as they have a better view. Servers were great; very friendly. "

  • "This was our first time at Crossings, so we had no idea what to expect- found it on open table based on # of stars. The ambiance was great; cool old building, nice design, not overdone. The service was impeccable, they treat you like they know you even if you've never been before. The food was fantastic, we had the Halibut and Ribeye special- both were cooked perfectly. Some of the best food in LA. Our one complaint was the new dessert we tried, a peach/raspberry tart- not good. Hopefully their dessert chef eliminates this one and can come up with something a little more creative and tasty!"

  • "The dining room was booked so we sat in the patio. All agreed the patio was the place to be! A big oak tree was hung with lanterns, there were heatlamps for every table, and the occasional train rumbling by added to the romantic atmosphere. Service was impeccable. And the food was amazing. The oysters were super fresh. Two shared the huge rib eye special, which had been beautifully divided in the kitchen. One had the swordfish which was said to be the best ever. I had the sea bass served over a puréed sauce with corn. It was the best sea bass I have had in a restaurant with the skin crisp and fish perfectly seasoned. The extensive wine list has many expensive wines but we selected a very nice moderate Pinot Noir. "

  • "Being in the business this was a great find, I have shared with several friends what a great dinner and the food was equally as wonderful. I loved seeing an area to eat where to cooks prepare the food, if you are a regular they will share a lot of great information/. I will be back within the next couple of weeks. The other nice idea is you can take the gold line from Pasadena right to your restaurant. Another plus..."

  • "Crossings was recommended by a friend...now I pass on MY recommendation. Made a reservation. Started with cocktails which were all excellent. Brought our own wine. Corkage is $15. Made our dinner for 3 out of the appetizer menu. Braised short ribs are a MUST, but we had to order two so we could each have one. Soup of the night (Wed.) was tomato...nice spicy, unexpected kick=yum! My parents loved the oysters and ox tail sliders. BLT salad was just ok, but the blue cheese dressing was good. Sat upstairs with a nice view of South Pasadena. Freeway close to 110 which made getting to the Ahmanson afterward, a breeze. Great to find a new yummy locale for a nice dinner. "

  • "Located in a renovated older building in the lovely Mission St. area of South Pasadena, Crossings is a find. The upstairs was a quiet retreat with a bright and airy feel. The braised peach, buratta cheese and prosciutto was a marvelous beginning to a great meal. I ordered the Swordfish and my boyfriend ordered the special Halibut. Both dishes were beautifully presented and a palate pleaser. "
