Croce's Restaurant & Jazz BarGreat experienceThe overall experience was fantastic!! We were traveling from Arizona when we decided to check out the restaurant Croce's. Using my phone I found OpenTable, we were able to secure reservations for dinner that night, look at the menu, and get all the info we needed via the website. This was so quick and easy to do!! The restaurant was busy but we never felt unattended too, even the owner greated us at our table. the food server was the best! When he realized I wanted salmon but not they way they prepared it he took care of it and the chef prepared it differently and changed out the rest of the dish as well so it would all be to my liking!! AMAZING!! Dinner was excellent, the employees were great and overall it was a very special evening!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat music, great foodChose Croce's on this evening to listen to Holly Hoffman & Mike Wofford play great jazz. Decided to have dinner there, & brought another couple with us. Food was great, service was great, the music was super. We sat at a table in the bar - somewhat difficult to carry on a sustained conversation, because of the music. But I wasn't there for conversation...Bistro-style menu, with unique Croce's touches - all food very good.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA must do place when in San DiegoFirst of all I want to thank Mrs. Croce for the signed book and as always it is great to see the head chef herself in command of her restaurant! This is why this restaurant is the best experience time after time. I wish your move to the new location goes well and with minimal stress.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat entertainmentI made the reservation for dinner but mainly to see Eve Selis in the jazz bar. I am going to be celebrating my 65th birthday in June and this was a precelebration. This was my first occasion to dine at Croce's. Food and serve were fabulous. However, I was disappointed that we had to vacate the table because we could not see the show. We were lucky to find a spot in the jazz bar. The reservation system does not allow for requesting a table in the jazz bar, and it should add this to the reservation form.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful food and excellent serverThe food at Croces is absolutely wonderful and the server was awesome. My boss (supercuts franchisee Bob Jerome) took myself and another member of our La Mesa supercuts management team as well as our General manager there for dinner in celebration of a job well done for last year. We went two years ago also and loved it. Croces is my favorite restaurant and I will be sad to see it leave the gaslamp. It is definitely a treat to go there and my meal was amazing!! Thanks so much for a wonderful dining experience!!
Laura Nelson ( La Mesa Supercuts Manager)5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCroches night outVery welcoming, great band, lots of Jim Croche memorabilia, waitress very friendly, food excellent. Definitely worth a visit if you are in San Diego.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing. TheThe food was amazing. The ambience was timeless. The live band sounded great. Servers were very hospitable. It was a perfect place to enjoy our anniversary dinner!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHusband's pickMy husband enjoys Jim Croce's music and had heard about this restaurant so he was interested in going. Since we were staying at a downtown hotel we decided to try it. The ambiance is friendly and laid back while the food is upscale and really well prepared. The appetizer hummus was excellent and my husband enjoyed the shrimp and ribs. Our entrees were good as well. My husband had a lasagna with spinach and potato and I had the meatloaf. The portions were large. I barely made a dent in mine, but it was very tasty. He finished his and said it was very good. Our server, Artie, was really great. Attentive without being intrusive. Live music was wonderful and although we were seated directly in front of them it wasn't too loud!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat dinnerthis was really a great restaurant! had a wonderful meal and great ambiance! would recommend to all!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great RestaurantWe had a great time, the food was delicious, the service was impeccable an the wine was great. We really enjoyed our evening at Croce's.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent foodThe food at Croce's was great, The place is a little noisy but it makes up for it in ambiance, especially if you are a Jim Croce fan. Definitely worth making a reservation if you're going later in the evening. The waitress had been there for 24 years and knew a lot about the history and Croce family.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA neighborhood icon with great foodThe food and service were first rate and the wine list is more than adequate. The server and wait staff were knowledgeable and prompt. Both the restuarant and Ingrid Croce are San Diego icons. I recommend that the property owner think again about letting the restuarant get away. The location is only special becasue of the iconic status Ingrid and the restuarant bestow upon it. Once they are gone to another location things will be different at 5th Ave and F St.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHate to see you leaveWe had a great time and meal. Great service and atmosphere. Hate to see Croce's leave the Gaslamp but we will join them when they move to Banker's Hill.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealMy fiancee and i done at Croce's recently and, although we were early diners, it has a nice atmosphere with jim Croce's music playing in the background. We shared the appetizer sampler and split halibut which was cooked to perfection. I would urge others to go before it closes.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous, once againMy husband and I live in Seattle and are lucky to be able to travel to San Diego many times a year. We always look forward to dining at Croce's Restaurant. Terrific food selection, attentive, knowledgeable servers, vibrant bar, and wonderful location. We always sit outside and are entertained by the colorful locals, and visitors, of the Gaslamp District.
Love it, love it, love it! Highly recommend.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience at Croce's!I made reservations online and requested to be seated near or within view of the performing jazz group and was pleasantly surprised to find myself sitting right next to the band. It was a great dinner date for my boyfriend and myself-- very romantic and special. Not to mention the ambience and vibrancy of the place and the music!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great and theThe food was great and the service was even better. Our server, I believe his name was Derek, was exceptional and he went to extra lengths to make my dad's birthday perfect. I really appreciate the great service!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time there with date.First time there with date. waiter was Artie. great job. We ate in dining room. Could'nt hear band. Just sounded like a lot of "noise" Old bank building, bad acoustics I imagine. Was so noisy my date and I had to lean across table to hear what we were saying to each other. food was very good. Service was excellent.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat staff, ambience andGreat staff, ambience and food. Ideal pre-show early evening dining spot. We've dined here before and will again.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA visit from PhillyWe really enjoyed ourself's. The meatball dish was the best meatball I've ever had (including places I've eaten in Soth Philly). Glad we were able to get there before they close and move to a new location. We still live outsode of Philly so for us it was a pleasure to go to Croce's as we have so many fond memories of Jim. When we are back in San Diego we will defenetly find the new Croce's again.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat!Food was wonderful and jazz group was to die for! Too bad this place is closing it's doors the end of the year...4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe place to goBeen coming for years during conference. Brought 9others. Everyone raved!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect outside dining, greatPerfect outside dining, great crowd pleaser, everyone loves it!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIconic restaurant in DowntownIconic restaurant in Downtown San Diego. It is rather noisy, so conversations are somewhat limiting. PLEASE NOTE: Their lease has not been renewed after 25 years. Unless this is resolved by late 2013 this location will close. Not clear if the new location will have the same ambiance.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSo happy we were able to eatSo happy we were able to eat at Croce's on this visit to San Diego. This was our second visit. The food was just as outstanding this time as the last one. Service was incredible. Loved the entire experience. I will miss the convenience of the Gaslamp location if the restaurant moves.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMJazzed about dining experience! All the many various foods we ordered were all truly yummy, from appetizers to first course, entree's & finally desserts; & let us not forget the libations! We were also fortunate to enjoy jazz with our meal, which added to the enjoyment & experience. Our group was treated very well by our server, kind, thoughtful &fun! Everyone in our group enjoyed it very much. I continue to recommend it each time I know some one is heading to SD. Thanks for consistency in high quality of food, service & entertainment.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchWe usually only go to brunches with bottomless mimosas, but the food was wonderful the ambiance was great, and frankly the bloody marys though not bottomless, were very good and worth the cost.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved Jim Croche and wasI loved Jim Croche and was so excited to hear about this place when staying for a conference in San Diego!! Went for evening food terrific, music fantastic!! I will definitely be back when on town again. Great service as well!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent staff, deliciousExcellent staff, delicious food, beautifully decorated and romantic. Highly recommended!!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWorld-Class--Disappointing EntreesMy wife and I went to Croce's for our 25th anniversary--obviously, an important occasion for us. Croce's has a very pleasant, relaxed ambiance and a cool view of San Diego's gaslamp district. The waitstaff were nearly perfect--attentive, but not intrusive, professional, but relaxed and relatable, etc. Overall, our experience was great. My one complaint would have to be the food. Although our sampling of the local beers was great, and the appetizer we ordered was fantastic, we both felt our dinner entrees were bland and uninspiring. This really surprised us, since everything else was so world-class. We'll almost certainly come back again, because we loved the place, but sadly we'll probably just be ordering drinks and appetizers.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a memorable EasterWe had a memorable Easter Dinner here. The service was excellent, and the food even better. I had the Ahi and my husband and son had the steak. We were all really pleased. I also had the salad with spinach, figs and oranges- don't remember the name- a really pleasant vanilla dressing, might be too sweet for some, but I really liked it. The server did tell me in advance about the sweetness so was also pleased with that attention.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat jazz combosFood and service are impeccable. Our waiter was witty, knowledgeable and not intrusive. This is my 3rd visit in 2 years and I will keep coming back.Music is terrific but not too loud to have a conversation, although I enjoyed it I just wanted to listen.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable brunchMy family and I went for Sunday brunch on Easter and thoroughly enjoyed it! The food and the service were great, and the live piano music added a nice touch to the ambiance. There was a good bit of street noise from the doors open to the sidewalk dining area, but overall not bad. I'd recommend it!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Date Night SpotDined at Croce's on a Saturday night with my hubs. Got a table no prob (due to the reservation). Ambience was energetic - we dined upstairs which was more of an intimate setting. Our Server was Artie, who was friendly/knowledgeable. Ordered the small plates appetizer which consisted of Hummus, Ribs, Shrimp and accompanied relishes. Appetizer was delicious - ribs melted off the bones, and the shrimp had amazing flavor with a kick. Main meal consisted of Scallops (for me) and Sea Bass (the hubs). The Scallops were amazing, only wish it had been mentioned on the menu that there were tomatoes mixed into the side risotto. The Sea Bass was flavorful and moist which is fantastic as it is a delicate cut of fish. Will def return!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food at this place isThe food at this place is AMAZING!!! I do not live in San Diego but everytime that I visit I come to Croce's for fine dining. The service is excellent. Although I wasn't, I was made to feel like I was the server's only customer. The ambience is wonderful and is complimented with live jazz music. I love this place!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed dining outside whereEnjoyed dining outside where we could hear the music, watch people walk by, and it was not loud. Our server was very good, making suggestions and giving us time to visit before ordering. The food was good. Wine prices and beer were fairly standard, but the mixed drinks were high.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall we were very satisfied.Overall we were very satisfied. Our group of six had six different approaches to dinner and our wait staff was with us every step of the way.
We did think that the live music was great; however, the canned was a little loud and made it difficult to talk.
It was recommended to us and we will recommend it to others.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA musical Noshow. The food and service were excellent, but the musicians never appeared. That was a great disappointment for us, since our visit to San Diego had the music at Croce's as a highlight.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ambiance is historic asThe ambiance is historic as the building was originally a bank 125 years ago. Food as always was great. The pork chops were perfectly cooked...the scallops were divine with the lobster risotto. Every time we are in San Diego we try to fit in an evening at Croce's. The jazz ensemble begins about 8:30 p.m. on the weekends. One recent development is a club opened directly below the restaurant and with the age of the building, about 9 p.m. the floor begins to vibrate. We were reassured that they were addressing the issue. Overall, the experience is one not to miss while in San Diego!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, jazz band excellent.Great food, jazz band excellent. So happy we went there.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMKudos to the entire staff,Kudos to the entire staff, service was very attentive, food was delish and the live music in the bar rounded out a perfect night.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe spinach salad was describedThe spinach salad was described by the server as very sweet with a light dressing. I found the dressing so light and flavorless it was almost not detectable. The sweetness came with the poached figs, but was not objectionable. The server offered a different salad, but I just asked for additional (different) dressing, the server suggested a delightful balsamic, which brought up the brightness to what the salad needed. My husband had the baby back ribs and thoroughly enjoyed them.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my parents there toI took my parents there to hear Jazz and they loved the dinner and music. Our server was great and so were the other assistants.
I will come again.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first trip toThis was our first trip to San Diego / Croce's restaurant. We loved touring the city and ending our stay with dinner at your restaurant was perfect. My wife, her sister and myself are from the Jim Croce era and we enjoyed listening to his music at dinner as well as the live jazz music after. We highly recommend this evening out.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI found the staff to be extremefulI found the staff to be extremeful knowledgable and helpful. The food was exceptional and the overall experience to be well worth the little extra cost.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGo Before Croce's Move to HillcrestThis is truly an exceptional place. My "stars" ratings are well deserved. The jazz music is excellent.1/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGo Before Croce's Move to HillcrestWonderful place, especially for special occasions. Very good live jazz.9/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
