Diner Reviews
  • "No live music on Tuesday's is a plus for me so I'm able to talk with the people I'm dining with. Food and service were excellent and the noise level would have been quiet except for the group at the next table - this can happen anywhere."

  • "Try out their Park West fries with 3 dipping sauces, this is good. It's good that they have half portions for some of their entrées so I ordered the braised short ribs which was tasty. It's a good place to try."

  • "A relative who lives in San Diego recommended Croce's a few years ago, though he had not dined there. He met us at their new location the other evening and enjoyed his recommendation! The food is excellent, and service was great! Our table was in the "regular" restaurant, which was next to the glass window that separates it from the music room where live jazz is performed. That room was full, and people seemed to really enjoy it! A great experience, and yes it is owned by the late Jim Croce's widow!"

  • "We have been to Croce's several times and have always had excellent food and service. We went for dinner on Sunday night July 6. If this had been our first time there we would not be returning. Both the food and service were lacking. It took forever for the server to even acknowledge us. She seemed to have too many tables that she was responsible for. It took 10 minutes from our drink order to drink delivery. The restaurant was not full and the bar was bordering on empty. The service went downhill from there. Each course took a little longer and the table was never bused until the next course came. TOTALLY out of character for Croce's. The breading on the shrimp was mushy. The one bright spot was the whole sea bass which was excellent!"

  • "We always enjoyed Croce's in the Gas Lamp, but this new location really serves it well. We went for brunch and they did not disappoint. Best Bacon Bloody Mary's with an extra kick! A+ food and service was on spot! We were also treated to beautiful piano music while dining. Outdoor patio was packed, as it is dog friendly. Great addition to Hillcrest."

  • "Very disappointed; Service was extraordinarily slow, dirty dishes sat on our table for 15 minutes, before anyone came over to remove them. Waitress forgot which wine we ordered for dinner, we were halfway through our meal before it arrived. Crispy duck was not crispy, very dry and 2 drops of sauce. A dessert menu was left, took another 10 minutes for someone to come back to our table and take our order."

  • "I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. The old Croce's was one of our favorites in SD. To be fair, we sat outside and may have missed a lot of the new locations attraction. Will give it another try and sit inside. Miss the vibrance of the GasLamp district. Our guest meals were awesome, according to them. The lamb was give 5 stars. my chops were ok and my wifes ribeye was bad. Still enjoyable but not the notable evening we used to have at the old location."

  • "I be always wanted to go to Croce's when it was in gas lamp, but never made it. We finally went for our 17th anniversary. It was better than I imagined!"

  • "Come for the food, stay for the music! GREAT live music in a supper club atmosphere. Love the ambience. Late night drinks at the bar spinkled with a few Mad Men suits and people from the art scene. Croce's is terrific at its new location. Keep brining us great jazz and we'll keep coming back."

  • "After 6 months this place continues to surprise me. Food options change daily and the bar continues to be fun. GReAT wine options and the best dirty martini in the city!!"

  • "I like how you can get lunch or brunch on weekends. Our server was really great - friendly, helpful, but not intrusive. Its a wonderful space to sit and enjoy great music and food."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised on our first visit to Croce's new location. It's better than ever. The food was very tasty with a bunch of interesting choices on the menu. The service and music were pitch perfect. What a great vibe. We'll be back."

  • "First time to Croce's and definitely won't be the last! We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Hostess was super friendly! Our server Jessie did an amazing job describing the food. I ordered something a bit out of my comfort zone...duck fettuccini. It was divine! They were busy, but we never felt ignored and Jessie went our of his way to get us a table in the room where we had a great seat for the live music that night. The owner stopped by our table to see how we were doing and allowed us to gush about our memories of her late husband's music. Excellent wine choices and the chocolate hazelnut ice cream...wow! We'll be back on our next trip to San Diego!"

  • "I have been searching for a dining and entertainment ambiance for a while and this was it. My husband and I were on our date night and we had the corner table that faced the band. It was a romantic setting. The jazz band was great, very energetic! It will be our definite go to place for our future date nights."

  • "While on a solo getaway in San Diego, I went to Croce's on a Sunday night (which happened to be Father's day). I had a reservation for 6, but went early and sat on the patio. The staff was fabulous, very friendly and accommodating. It was happy hour when I arrived (tremendous value for fabulous food and deliciously crafted cocktails!) I moved inside for dinner, where the food just continued to be superb and the wine delicious. The service was amazing and the music was great! Great ambiance and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening out on my own in the great city of San Diego. Overall, outstanding place to relax, savour and enjoy. I had to buy the cookbook to challenge myself to try and recreate the wonderful gastronomic experience at home!"

  • "Excellent food. I had Lamb special. Took a long time for server to take our order. Then a very long time to bring us the check. Otherwise service was good. But it is frustrating when it is time to go & your server is nowhere to be found."

  • "We have dined at Croce's in the Gaslamp Quarter whenever we were in San Diego since they first opened. It was often crowded and noisy. The new place is much easier to get to and the ambiance is very nice. The food and service was the best I have experienced in ages. They have an extensive wine list and a friendly sommeleir to help you choose. We were there on a Thursday evening and the band that played added a nice touch to the experience."

  • "Made reservation at Open Table. When I got to restaurant, the restaurant was closed for a special event. If they are that disorganized with their reservations, what can you expect from the rest of dinner. STAY AWAY!!"

  • "Took my dad here after a show at Old Globe and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Food was very good, music in adjacent lounge was not intrusive and service was friendly if a tad slow. Definitely would recommend as pre or post-theater dining experience."

  • "We had an exceptional time on Father's Day! Isaiha was really great. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, he was very attentive."

  • "The feel of the new location of Croce's was upscale and casual at the same time. The ambience was eclectic and mature. The food and service were equally nice."

  • "This was the first time we came to the new location and it was great. A much better location than the Gas Lamp and the music was terrific as always. We really liked the vegitarian options on your menu. We will be back, especially for the great music!!"

  • "I have always enjoyed Croce's, but it's really just good. The atmosphere makes it a fun place to be, but the food is just good. The fact that you can order half dinners is fantastic and suits me well, but my hubby is just not excited about the unexciting taste of the food. This time we sat facing the music and it was LOUD to say the least. If you are going to talk, sit toward the front. I would go back, but mostly because I love the spicy martini:)"

  • "We went for lunch, 4 seniors. The chairs are so comfortable overstuffed armchairs. The tables good sized and solid and a help when it came time to stand up to leave, The service is personable and quick. The prices are very reasonable. And the food is excellent. I'd recommend Croce's to anyone."

  • "Most of the food was very good. I had the sea bass and my date had the pork chop. Both were very excellent. I also liked their wine list a lot. The warm spinach salad wasn't warm or wilted, and had little flavor. It was a bust. But the worst thing was that the hostess moved us, not once, but twice--so we got to see the view of the back of the restaurant from 3 different tables. Are you kidding me? The tables all appeared to be the same size, so I'm not sure why. They gave us a nice appetizer to allay our dissatisfaction, but it was just too much. All that being said, the food was good enough and I will probably give them another try. Everyone's entitled to a bad day."

  • "after being seated by a not so nice host, it took about 5 minutes until we were recognized. there was a lot of confusion going on with the staff. not sure if I would hurry back. the food was very good."

  • "Amazing dinner! The Spinach salad with figs and vanilla bean dressing was outstanding! The only thing better than the meal was our service "T" was incredible! Always anticipated our needs without hovering over us. Beautiful smile, warm & friendly. Made our date night all the more special. Thanx a beautiful romantic evening!"

  • "Went for dinner with friends. It was a jazz night and the music is in a back room and was not overwhelmingly loud. Corn soup was excellent, Caesar salad with lots of anchovies (good) but spinach salad with vanilla was wired. Main dishes were uniformly great--succulent pork chop, rich short ribs, properly cooked salmon and a very good shrimp pasta. Too full for much dessert so cannot comment. Overall a fun evening but if you want a very intimate evening try for a table more to the front, and if you want to hear the music ask for the back of the restaurant"

  • "Wonderful restaurant. The good was perfect, plus they also offered 1/2 portions which is a great idea. Their chef is outstanding. It's very much an adult restaurant and the vibe is fun. They had a jazz group playing in a different section of restaurant and a glass wall is partially open to hear the music. Nice, that way you can still talk and be heard without the loud music drowning you out. I would come here everyday if I could."

  • "We tried the new incarnation of Croce's on a whim after readying online reviews. It really was an outstanding experience. A lively ambience and fantastic, attentive service. We sat in a roomy booth that was somewhat elevated, which allowed us to survey the scene. Love that they have half portions of the entrees and the rack of lamb was to die for. Great prices on the wine list too."

  • "Our first time at Croce's - the entertainment was absolutely wonderful! We sprung for the $5 each cover charge to sit in the room with the music and were not sorry! We thoroughly enjoyed listening to the quartet and will definitely return for that reason. Our waiter was very friendly but the food was pretty bad. We had ceviche which was really hot - one bite and I was done. And who knew that "veal/pork meatballs with spaghetti and marinara sauce" could be so spicy????? I couldn't even eat it - and the menu never made any mention that it was a spicy dish. Disappointing! For those of us who don't like spicy food, this is not the place to try! Next time I think we will stick to drinks and dessert! "

  • "We had a terrific experience at Croce's. It was my husband's birthday and we were seated at a perfect table with a view of the jazz group performing that evening. Our server was Leslie and she was great and personable. Our food experience was excellent from the shrimp appetizers, main course , salad and dessert. We would certainly return and would highly recommend this restaurant to friends."
