Diner Reviews
  • "Went there with my wife on a special brunch date. All the usual, and some unusual menu brunch items were available. Great food, good drinks, and live music to top it off. Will definitely do this again."

  • "I really enjoyed dining at Croces Park West and the food was delicious. Our server Robert recommended several dishes and provided excellent customer service"

  • "Wonderful meal here last Friday night with friends. I had the scallops with rissoto that was on point and contained the most succulent vegetables. We stayed on for the music that also hit the mark. The staff was most acomocating about finding us a table in the music room after dinner."

  • "The food was average at best. An overly ambitious menu appears to be the culprit. Some of our food was clearly prepared well in advance and had been sitting in a refrigerator until it could be served. That's something one would expect from a quick-service food establishment, not a formal sit-down restaurant."

  • "Brought a group of 9 for Sunday Brunch and had a dedicated server who took extra special care of us. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Start off with a cinnamon roll (to share!). Go, go, go...you will not be disappointed!"

  • "My wife and I had been to the downtown location several times but the one on 5th is even better. We had the scallops and Ahi and both were excellent. I thought the poached egg on the Ahi vegetables sounded strange but the blend of flavors was superb. Our waiter, Isiah, was always there when we needed him. He was very friendly and personable. For dining in the Balboa Park neighborhood, this is a real find. We'll be back."

  • "If you enjoy listening to jazz and blues while you eat, this is the place to go. The ambience is great and the food is good. I would rate the food great if it had been a little less oily. But, it was quite tasty. I especially enjoyed that Ingrid stopped by each table to greet and say hello to all the diners."

  • "Just loved this place. The food, the house drinks, the atmosphere... I could go on and on. The best dining experience I've had in years. Definitely will be back many times."

  • "I'll admit to wondering how the move to Banker's Hill would fare for Croce's, but the new location and set-up is a hit in my book! I like the intimate setting for music, yet having a dining area seperate from the concert area so you can have a low conversation without disturbing the pure music lovers and not having to scream. Food was excellent and the half portion was the perfect amount to satisfy 1 person. My only criticsm would be that the wait staff appeared to be hurrying us through the meal yet it was a weeknight and many empty tables. The waiters need to be as smooth as the music."

  • "Sunday in the park west,we came on a sunny day.Hope to hear some good jazz, but got a great guitarist singer that made our Sunday brunch oh so smooth..... Food was very good, the service over top,the staff stop by often to see to our needs. All and all just a super day."

  • "The table they sat us was in the band room. there was a $5:00 cover charge per person. The music was so loud that I couldn't hear my friend. She was from out of town and I was very disappointed. I love the food and service, but the noise and extra cover made me have doubts."

  • "I've been wanting to go to Croce's for some time now, but haven't made my way down to San Diego for a while. All the hype I've heard about Croce's is well warranted! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Short Ribs and my wife, the Filet Mignon. We shared the Kale Salad and the Baked Brie/Garlic. Honestly, we both agree, we can't remember ever having a better meal out. We'll DEFINITELY return!"

  • "I'm grateful to Open Table for their service, but they should know that there are separate seating sections, and not only that, a section (with live music) that costs more to sit in. My guest and I got sat in this section, but were nervous the music would be too loud, so we asked to sit in another section which proved difficult for the staff, but in fairness, only for a short time. After that, we were treated very well by our waiter and the staff. This is a great place with a fun atmosphere, a great bar and great live music. After 10pm, there is no additional charge (which is nominal anyway) for the live music section."

  • "I was impressed with the restaurant's layout, almost 3 areas of dining in one space. Great service and good food! I had requested a quiet table which they honored and even with the music element happening behind the glass wall, we could pleasantly chat and enjoy both. Very friendly. I loo forward to returning soon."

  • "When we travel to San Diego, we always make reservations for dinner there. The new location is very elegant in a neighborhood restaurant. They are serving their excellent meatloaf as a special and is worth trying. The braised short ribs are fork tender, boneless chunks of beef in a delicious sauce. The mac and cheese served with this entree rounds out a "comfort food" dinner. Michael was very helpful with our wine choice for the evening. I only wish we were able to get there on a night when they have entertainment. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal in San Diego."

  • "The new location is not quite as vibrant as the old but the food is every bit as delicious. Another great meal with superb service and the enjoyment of listening to great music while eating. Croce's continues to be a San Diego classic."

  • "This was my first visit and I really enjoyed myself. Brunch on the patio gave us a front row seat for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious, and light. The cream cheese stuffed french toast was also a hit. I would definitely come back. Parking was rather challenging due to the parade, but it wasn't enough to make me avoid visiting again. The only complaint I had was that the server was not as attentive as I would have liked. We were not offered drink refills at all or given an opportunity to order any additional food items. He disappeared after he served our food."

  • "If you haven't been to the new restaurant, you need to try it. It's quaint and not quite as touristy as the old spot. The drinks, the food, the service, were all wonderful and we will return!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at the new Croce's location near Balboa Park. We were happily surprised at how delicious our food was and totally WOWED by the service! Every person working at Croce's acted as if they were the owner; meaning they all seemed like they had pride in the job. They were all very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I asked for a good table in the comments section when I booked on open table and I swear they gave us the best seat in the house. I would definitely dine here again and again. I will be recommending it to my friends and family. The jazz music was excellent too!"

  • "Nice variety of entrees, and kudos for offering half portions. I'd never heard of the group that was playing the night we went, but they were great. We deliberately sat in the area where the performers are. Only disappointment was there were a number of very talkative people in that section during the set. If you don't want to be quiet and experience the music, don't sit there! But we'll definitely return."

  • "We haven't been to Croce's since they moved to Bankers Hill, but it won't be long before we go back. The food was excellent, the service was very good, and the music was exceptional. This is a welcome addition to our neighborhood."

  • "A great find. Food very good and no one had difficulty finding something that appealed. Jazz ensemble was excellent. Seating comfortable. Staff and Ingrid Croce were gracious. The prices were not cheap but were within reason. Who could ask for more?"

  • "My friend and I decided to check out the new Croce's now open for about 6 weeks. Everything was smooth, Ingrid, the owner, even stopped by our table to welcome us. We loved the sea bass and the highlight, Sue Palmer and her band. We'll be back."

  • "My wife and I tried Croce's on a Thursday night, reservations at 6pm. This was a great time to go as the place was beginning to fill with a lively bar crowd. We were seated in the lounge area where the band plays at 7pm on scheduled nights. Seating was comfortable and not crammed together. Dinner was excellent as was the service by Leslie. No doubt I'll return and plan to stay longer for the music."

  • "We had hopes of this being the new local hangout, but the food was so disappointing We would never go back. The sea bass was basically an over cooked "Fish stick" and the duck . Dry and tasteless. The decor was strange , but at least the chairs were comfortable."

  • "My wife and I went to this new to our neighborhood place and were pleasantly surprised but the level of food and service that we received. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food and wine list, and gave great suggestions. The live music coming from the back room added a nice background theme for the night. Overall it was an outstanding environment and great time."

  • "The place was awesome. Great food, drinks, and music. It was a first time visit and the staff really made sure it was a pleasant experience. The service was fast and courteous. The drinks were strong and tasty. The food was not overly priced and it tasted terrific; there were no left overs. The ambiance was perfect with three separate areas: bar, quiet dining, and seating with live music. They also had convenient parking lot right on the property. Great experience overall."

  • "We were a group on 9 on a Monday night and had the best evening celebrating two birthdays. Our server Justin was on top of everything, knew the menu well and was a very pleasant person. The menu is extensive and the ability to "half portion" everything was fun. An added bonus was that the owners came by our table for a visit. We were all happy with our meals and will come again and recommend the restaurant to all our clients and friends. Perfect evening."

  • "Food was really good, but service was only ok. We had reservations for 2 at 8pm. We didn't get seated until 8:30pm. It was a Friday, so I understand there are a lot of people, but isn't that what a reservation is for? After ordering the seabass entree, the waiter came back to let me know that they were all out. Then, after 20 minutes, the restaurant found another seabass entree serving. It was good news, but we then had to wait for over 30 minutes for the food to be served. No wonder our they could not keep the reservation schedule."

  • "Great location, neat set up with glass divider for diners to enjoy the live music. The service was pretty poor, took a long time to get our server to take our orders, very delayed with checking in at our table, and she was lacked the friendliness and professionalism of the old restaurant. The bus girl came by twice and tried to take plates when the guest at our table wasn't finished eating - dinner and desert. Overall, it was rather disappointing and we hope they get back to the old style of service."

  • "Great atmosphere. We arrived for 7:30 dinner and stayed to listen to live music. The menu had 1/2 portion options which was perfect for my wife. The GM, Scott, is very knowledgeable on the local brews they have on tap and was accommodating with tasters to determine what went best with each course."

  • "The appetizers were good as were the desserts. All four of our main courses were disappointing and certainly not worth the prices. It's a Club not a Restaurant."

  • "We so enjoyed our experience! I loved seeing people of all ages at this place! Groups of senior citizens having a blast, young couples enjoying themselves. The sea bass was amazing! My husband's filet mignon was great! Okay, if I had one complaint, it's that there wasn't enough ahi in the ahi poke, but it was stilll delish!!! I also loved that Ingrid was very present and accommodating! I am on the KIFM Easy 98.1 morning show, and will be mentioning this morning. If you would like an aircheck, I can see about getting you one. Thank you!"

  • "This was our 2nd time at Croce's Park West and it is great!!! My husband and I liked the Gas Lamp district location but it was so hard to find parking and a bit too crazy. Now it is in our neighborhood and so easy to find parking!! The place itself is more open and still very lively and energetic but with a sense of the neighborhood that brings a respect to it...a neighborhood ownership that isn't so crazy. Anyway, the service was excellent and very good. The food is great also! A nice menu that isn't pages long. It is so nice to be able to see live music just a long walk away. We hope the Croce family feels welcomed and we will definitely make it a regular part of our Friday nights out. Nice for friends (3 or more) night out too!"

  • "A very unfortunate experience. Appetizers were off and I ordered fish - BIG mistake. Horribly overcooked. When you leave a restaurant and your only good memory is the very comfortable chair you sat in, it doesn't bode well. One can only hope everything will improve. But for now stay away."
