Went on a Monday night at 6:30pm. It was quiet and the service was great. We tried the Crab, Avocado and Kale salad, Bone Marrow and Carbonara, which were all very good. Tiramisu was decent, if you like coffee. They sprinkled in coffee grounds in the dessert which gave it a sandy touch, but overall still tasty.

The ambience - warm brown brick walls, dark wood, modern lighting and open kitchen/bar, reminded me of restaurants where I have eaten in Rome and in Siena. Food was very high quality, simply but elegantly prepared. The quantity was just right. Prosciutto apparently is a specialty. I ordered it w/ figs and parmesan. The ham was super - delicate, tender (no stringy/chewy stuff like in some Prosciutto). The parmesan was phenomenal - very long finish on the palate. I also ordered spaghetti carbonara, which was very flavorful and a lot of food - perfect Italian comfort food if you can burn the carbs...which I could after walking around Manhattan all day.

Have been going to Crispo for 10 years on a regular basis and have always found it to be a stellar gastronomic experience. But Monday night was not so good. Maybe it was the dish. The corn ravioli type pasta was hard and tasted old. Usually, we have come to enjoy the newer dishes on the menu, but this one was really almost inedible. My partner had the regular truffle ravioli and said it was fine. It was annoying that I asked the server how the corn pasta was and he said it was great.

We do not live in NYC, but have been to this restaurant several times when visiting "the City." The food never disappoints; it is always outstanding. The menu is unusual with an emphasis on cheese and prosciutto. The atmosphere and staff are warm and friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant.

  • salsify asparagus sauce a triumph

We had a nice dinner at Crispo. It's pretty small so you are very close to other diners. (Watch out for the servers' and bussers' elbows and body checks that could topple your drinks, etc.) The stuffed fried squash blossoms were really good as was the grilled octopus. The bone marrow, despite being laden with garlic, escargots, etc., was a little underwhelming but look very paleo. The scallop/lobster ravioli special had a simple cream sauce with cut asparagus and white salsify, very fresh-tasting - you could distinguish each vegetable bite; a triumph. We also enjoyed our vodka martinis and a 1/2 bottle of pinot noir.

Crispo never disappoints. I've never ordered something that I didn't like. For appetizers, I highly recommend the proscuitto with fig and the burrata or the truffle mozzarella. They also have really good gluten free pasta for anyone with with celiac or an intolerance. If you're a fan of spaghetti Carbonara, their's is amazing! Great food, great ambiance and always really great service. All for a reasonable price.

Crispo is consistently good on all levels. The pastas (raviolis), tapas, lamb chops, branzino agro dulce ans tiramisu were on our table last night. It can get very noise in the garden room so we usually sit in he front room. The staff is very easy to deal with and professional. Service is great and tables are quickly cleared. With literally thousands of restuarants in NYC to choose from we took a shot on Crispo based on Tripadvisor and Yelp reviews. Overall the food and service were good and reasonablly priced for NYC. Our group sampled several small plates and an appetizer which we all enjoyed. 3 of us had pasta dishes which were portioned properly and 1 had a special. We did make a rservation and were seated promptly. While the outside seating in the back which we had requested was full they were able to seat us outside in the front of the restaurant. Even sitting along the sidewalk it was not noisey and the weather was perfect for dining al fresco. Overall we had no complaints!

Food was delicious ! However this restaurant is not romantic as others have claimed. It's small and the nosie level is deafening. I brought my wife for our anniversary dinner. Our very small table was wedged in between two larger tables. Long story short my elbows were poking patrons on each side of me at two different tables. I would say to dine at Crispo but maybe on a week night definitely not a Friday or Saturday evening.

I'd have give this 5 stars, however the bus boy spilled my wine when he was clearing the table, and there was no mention of replacing the wine. Later on, 1/2 glass of wine appeared. The right thing to do would've been the server come, apologize (he didn't speak english, but did try to apologize) and replace the wine with a full glass. I also felt a bit rushed (again the busser) because my companion finished before me and he started clearing. The food is wonderful (mozzarella risotto balls) and the garden atmosphere is like a calm breath of Europe in Manhattan.

My sister and I began by sharing a piping hot and delicious order of fried calamari and zucchini. The appetizer appeared almost immediately which was jarring (though to our server's credit she did not rush the rest of the meal). The much-publicized spaghetti carbonara was disappointing. Because a single poached egg creates the sauce, it was dry. The menu listed hangar steak but the kitchen served another cut - not as flavorful or interesting but good. The portion was large and was served with a generous order of fries. We did not stay for dessert because by 8:30 PM the noise level was overwhelming and it was hard to hear one another talk.

I selected the artichoke All Romana & the Black Truffle Ricotta Ravioli. My companion had the Burata di puglia & the Spinach & Short Rib Ravioli. We both had the Italian cheese cake. All our food was carefully prepared & presented. The dinner was just the right lightness for before an evening in the theatre. Our waitress did seek out any answers even though she didn't have the answers herself. We did remind our server we need to leave for the theatre and this time slipped past her such that we ended rushing at the end. Overall I would recommend Crispo. We sat in the garden room which is quite pleasant. There were only 3 tables occupied. Because it is a small place, I imagine it could be quite nosy when a full house.

Patio was empty at 5:30 PM other than 2 other tables. We were told we would have our choice of seating. Hostess had a woman bring us to a table on top of the two other seated tables under an overhang. Asked if we could move to another empty table for more privacy and was denied stating tables were reserved. I stated we would be leaving within 1 hour as we were going to a play. Still refused. By the time we left only 1 of the tables were occupied. This was a birthday and they refused to accommodate us when the tables were NOT reserved until much later, and after we left. Also, at any given time at least 3, sometimes 4, staff members stood lined up along the wall staring you down. Pretty uncomfortable.
