A word from Criollo at Hotel Monteleone
New Orleans in its soul is a true blending of many cultures. The European influences, namely Spanish, Italian & French, coupled with prominent contributions of Caribbean & African heritage, have produced one of America's greatest indigenous cuisines, Creole.

Criollo, the Spanish word for Creole and the name chosen for the new restaurant, represents the amalgam of cultures reflected in our cooking and the unique tastes that comprise Louisiana cuisine.

Fashioned with Louisiana & the Gulf South region's abundant bounty of fresh, home grown products from the land & sea, Criollo's ingredient-driven seasonal menu is designed to offer creative dishes inspired by culinary traditions & an appreciation of today's contemporary tastes.

Diner Reviews
  • "We loved the food (the grouper and crab and avacodo appetizer) and the martinis. The white chocolate creme brulee was very good and James, our waiter was very knowledgable and friendly. The music from the bar was alittle bit loud but we enjoyed it anyway. I plan to go back."

  • "This place is the newest, hottest restaurant in town."

  • "We celebrated a rare chance to lunch together and found the Criolla on the Coolinary list for August - the tomato/mozzarella appetizer was fresh and tasty as well as artfully presented... the chicken dish was probably the best chicken I've EVER had! and the sheephead fish had a wonderful supporting cast on the plate that included fresh greens with a delicious citrus dressing. Very attentive service and a relaxing outing."

  • "We had a great lunch at Criollo's! The Coolinary options were great, as is the rest of the menu! Loved our waiter and the manager took the time to come over and ask how everything was. Will defineltey be back and suggest to friends!"

  • "We went there for dinner on a very busy Saturday night. There were 2 big events in the city, and one particularly taking place on Royal Street. The scene was very vibrant, but we got a nice cozy booth and didn't seem to notice. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. Our waiter was excellent and seems to really enjoy his job. Service was great! The gumbo and the sweet potato soups were delicious. Our entrees were good (I got swordfish for the first time) and the best part was dessert! It was a white chocolate creme brulee in puff pastry, and it was to die for! I love Criollo and I enjoy having a drink (or two) at the adjacent Carousel Bar. Well done!"

  • "Soft shell crab was drenched in roumalade unfortunately too rich to enjoy got filled after a couple bites. Gumbo was good. We ate here bc we were staying at hotel."

  • "I have loved this hotel all my life, but on this occasion the service was poor, such as no spoons for the gumbo, no bread, etc. the muffulettas were an insult to that name. When the bill came and I took out a credit card, then I was told one could not use credit cards that day! I was not told beforehand mI used up all my cash as I never carry checks, and had no t left for the garage. I shall never return, although this was my third time here. There were only two other persons I. The restaurant. Janice Donaldson"

  • "There were several functions at the hotel that evening and the Carousel Bar was packed and extremely noisy. Thank goodness all that noise didn't quite make it into the restaurant. The food was good and the staff jovial and helpful."

  • "This is our second time at Criollo - first was for Revillion. The food was delicious! The waiter started off really good - however, once our order was taken - he disappeared until it was time for the check."

  • "I have lived in New Orleans all my life and I find Criollo an old New Orleans dining experience. Very comfortable, great service, great food. This is the second time I have eaten here and look forward to going again. The drum with shrimp was outstanding!"

  • "The Criollo is a wonderful restaurant! My husband and I enjoyed each course from the appetizer to the desert. The staff was very attentive and willing to make any changes if we requested. The food was absolutely marvelous - changes needed! I asked if the chef would tell me how to make the salad! He came to the table to tell me how he created the dressing! Amazing! New Orleans is a magnificent food experience - Criollo being the Best in town."

  • "I'm a Chef who took 14 out to dinner- all Chefs or those that work in the food industry. we all agreed that Criollo was fantastic for both food and service. I've eaten at many of the best restaurants in New Orleans, of which there are many, and this ranks in my top five favorites.Enough said!"

  • "We loved this restaurant. We started our evening at the Carousel Bar with fantastic cocktails and then stepped next door to the restaurant. The decor was very nice. The service was excellent and our waiter was wonderful and made some awesome recommendations. Our food was cooked perfectly. Overall a wonderful dining experience."

  • "We made a reservation at the Criollo because we were staying at The Hotel Monteleone (which we enjoyed immensely). The waiter warned us off the snapper and we should have listened. It was barely edible (my husband didn't eat his). No flavor. Chewy, not crispy. My mother had the duck and it was good. Grouper also not great but better than snapper. Turtle soup was vey good. Gumbo so-so. Very disappointing for a restaurant in the heart of the French Quarter. Way too expensive for the quality of the food."

  • "A relaxed, upscale atmosphere with delicious food and excellent service - it was the perfect choice for our Saturday family gathering. The menu had something for everyone and conversation was easy as the noise level was low. We will definitely return to Criollo."

  • "We had high expectations for Criollo, and we left feeling "meh." Our server started off very energetic and then started disappearing for long periods of time. My duck, which had been ordered medium, came out very well done and dry. My husband's steak was good. We were looking to order after dinner drinks and desserts, but after waiting 30 minutes to see our server, we just decided to leave. To be fair to our server, the restaurant appeared to be extremely understaffed, which would account for the lack of service we received. And I will say that the cocktails were very well made and tasty."

  • "The breakfast menu selection is great. Several Benedict dishes to choose from with local flavor. The blueberry scones with lemon curd delicious. They do stop serving breakfast at 11:00 to close, then reopen at 11:30 for lunch. Would be perfect if only they had jazz music."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The drinks were great. However, I had the duck entree and it was very over cooked, the sauce was not the best, and the rice was flavorless. I had the dobash cake for dessert. it was slightly dry and there was no chocolate ganache on it. Appetizers were ok but small and not worth the price. The service was very good though."

  • "I had a good shrimp and crawfish gumbo. Entree of red snapper that was ample and delicious. I was able to get a pisco sour drink which is not available at most bars. "

  • "My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday brunch. I was a little disappointed there was no jazz music. The fresh fruit and juice were wonderful, especially the pineapple. Also, the selection of breads was magnificent. Had asked the waitress for orange juice which we didn't get until we asked again. She acted as though that was the first she had heard of the order. Great food though. "

  • "This was a really enjoyable meal. It was our first time at this restaurant. The service was great. I had a duck dish and my wife had the lamb dish. Both were very good entrees. The menu is not extensive but what they do, they do very well. "

  • "We enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner as visitors to the city of New Orleans. It was fun to enter through the Carousel bar, but have a nice table tucked away from the busy hotel entrance. The seafood was delicious. Wasn't a huge fan of the Turtle Soup though."

  • "I dined here with a group of five. I probably enjoyed my food the least - although it was still good; all the others raved about their choices. It's comfortable, a good place to talk, and there's a fine bar next door for a pre- or post-dinner drink."

  • "Outstanding attention to the needs of a diner with some allergies. Service was friendly and impeccable. Food was perfectly prepared and soooo tasty."

  • "Charming dining room in a beautiful historic hotel in the french quarter. The pork chop was the best I have ever had. We had a free night in New Orleans and thanks to Open Table I was able to choose this dining experience. Go early and check out the revolving bar."

  • "The wait staff is wonderful. One of our waiters made specialty drinks for our 13 year old and he loved them. We always stay at the hotel but, have never eaten dinner there. We loved the food and will eat there again."

  • "If you're on vacation in the French Quarter, I strongly recommend walking through the elegant lobby of the Hotel Monteleone, then have some truly fine Italian food at the Criollo. The service, menu and food are outstanding. The pizza was unforgettable!"

  • "The big problem was the host who seated Us He was very snooty and not friendly It was a Sunday night Not crowded And I specifically asked for a window table There were 3 available but would not seat Us there At first he tried to seat us in a very dark Part of the restaurant I asked for the window again and was told It was for 4. People We were there for 2 hours and the tables were still empty The rest of the experience was good but I will not go back"
