A word from Criollo at Hotel Monteleone
New Orleans in its soul is a true blending of many cultures. The European influences, namely Spanish, Italian & French, coupled with prominent contributions of Caribbean & African heritage, have produced one of America's greatest indigenous cuisines, Creole.

Criollo, the Spanish word for Creole and the name chosen for the new restaurant, represents the amalgam of cultures reflected in our cooking and the unique tastes that comprise Louisiana cuisine.

Fashioned with Louisiana & the Gulf South region's abundant bounty of fresh, home grown products from the land & sea, Criollo's ingredient-driven seasonal menu is designed to offer creative dishes inspired by culinary traditions & an appreciation of today's contemporary tastes.

  • "Grab a bite of great food and follow that with a drink at the carousel bar right there."

  • "Even though I did not stay in this hotel this was a great find. The food was prepared well and the presentation was terrific. I had the pork chop and Banana Split. I loved the variation they gave to these dishes."

  • "Criolo in the Hotel Monteleone offers a wonderful lunch. My wife had the hamburger while I had the Pompano. The service was excellent, the wine list was very good and the ambiance is special. The connection of the restaurant and the Hotel to several famous authors makes this place truly unique. We also stopped in at the Carousel Bar next door and watch the bar go round."

  • "One of the best Dinners in the French Quarter. I usually avoid Hotel Restaurants but this on is very good."

  • "I took a group of nine people there for dinner. The service and food were excellent! Best meal I had in New Orleans. Would definitely go back."

  • "The location, ambiance and service was exceptional! Our cocktail and appetizer was terrific. Our fst sandwich was eh."

  • "The hotel is awesome, the carousel bar is legend and the dining room is very nice. Unfortunately the food doesn't live up to the rest. It's not that it's bad, it's just not anything special. You won't hate it, but (like me) you'll have a hard time remembering what you ate a few days later."

  • "My mother and I had a fantastic dining experience Criollo! The food was exquisite and the service was fabulous! From the moment we entered the restaurant we felt welcome and were greeted with smiles! We'll be back for sure."

  • "This place was wonderful. I took 6 of my international colleagues here for dinner and it was a highlight of the week. The $20 bottles of wine on Wednesday was a great surprise. Good wine selection. DO NOT miss the crab shrimp and avocado appetizer. It was awesome!!!"

  • "Despite being fairly empty for the entire time that we were there, we were squeezed into a tiny table in a corner of the restaurant, with the explanation that we had a great view out of the window (the view was of a side street, so was of no value). The amuse buche of pan seared duck breast was truly excellent, and created a very high expectation for the rest of the meal. The gumbo was unfortunately somewhat tasteless. My porcini crusted filet was quite good, except for the fact that there was no porcini crust. The potatoes were too salty, and while the oxtail ragout was intensely flavored, it too was excessively salty, totally ruining the dish for me. My dining partner also complained that his duck breast was excessively salty."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant based on some other reviews but was ultimately disappointed by this restaurant on my recent trip to New Orleans with my mom. We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was not very crowded despite the crowd at neaby Carousel bar. Unfortunately our server was not very good - I wanted to like him because he tried to be very nice, but he brought me the wrong drink and forgot about my mom's dairy allergy and the entree came out with cheese on it. The food left much to be desired as well, but that could have been because mine was cold waiting for my mom's food to be re-cooked.For the prices here, there are much better restaurants nearby that have far superior food and service."

  • "My wife and I enjoy staying at the Hotel Monteleone and have eaten at their restaurant on two occasions. Our latest meal was not as good as the first as the food was good but not great. Service and ambience were very good. The dining room is situated next to the added bar and noise level has gone up accordingly."

  • "We had a delicious dinner Saturday night at Criollo with another couple while in New Orleans for the weekend. The hotel is beautiful, and the decor in the restaurant was elegant and soothing; a lovely respite from the sensory overload of the French Quarter. We were attended by not only our waiter but also two servers, with the maitre d' watching every encouter. Everyone was friendly and engaging but unobtrusive. Attentive when we needed them, but out-of-the-way when we didn't. Perfect!"

  • "We did arrive about 30 minutes before the breakfast buffet was to end, but we paid the same price as those who got their earlier. Breakfast buffet was cold. We had to ask for juice which was included in price of buffet. Service was mediocre. Felt they just wanted us to leave and they were being put out every time we asked for something."

  • "The addition of Criollo is a "better than most" restaurant addition to the high end French Quarter hotel market. The food is excellent and the atmosphere would be romantic if not for the "too close" adjoining bar which is very loud. The service was not to the same standard as the food but that may have just been our table. The one downside is that on most of the tables, one person (if a party of two) will be looking at a wall. There are mirrors but they are above the level of the seating. There is no way to sit where both diners can enjoy the view of the room."

  • "As always, dining at Criollo, in the Hotel Monteleon, was a stellar experience. The staff is amazing, especially Stephen, the cuisine divine and the ambiance perfect. My favorite place to dine when in town from NY!"

  • "All good in an elegant atmosphere. The chef came to our table so we could express our praise, then sent a sampling of both their bread puddings, we liked the white chocolate one better, but there was none left of anything we were served. Going back tonight!"

  • "highly recommend checking this place out if you find yourself in New Orleans."

  • "I live in another state, and was there in January, but absolutely had to come back in February! I was not disappointed. Again, the food was melt in your mouth lovely with a bold touch of New Orlean's tastes and flavors that we all love so well. If you are looking for a restaurant to satisfy those NOLA cravings, with service that makes the meal, you must go to Criolla's. The menu also focuses on local, sustainably-sourced items, so the extra fresh delightful rush you get starts with the first bite and ends with the last. I branched out and tried the New Orleans Turtle Soup followed by the CEDAR SPRINGS LAMB Mediterranean Couscous Blend, Tawny Port Reduction, Smoked Goat Cheese. Perfection. Try this place and enjoy returning again and again!"

  • "Food well prepared but lacked seasoning and bland considering this dining establishment is in the Crescent City. Ambience nice but food mediocre. Look elsewhere for a taste of New Orleans fare"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "It's nice to have an excellent meal in relative quiet during the chaos of Carnival in New Orleans' Vieux Carre. The staff was ver attentive and helpful and the food was delicious. I had swordfish butterflied on risotto and my wife had veal; both were just as we might have wished. We had eaten at Arnaud's the previous evening and this was no less delightful."

  • "We went for Sunday Brunch (we thought) this last Sunday, only to find that I had incorrectly read their brunch times. However, most of us were perfectly happy to order lunch. We were a group of 6 girls who were celebrating a bachelorette party, and certainly a little more rambunctious than the other guests. The restaurant was beautiful and the food was not only extremely impressively presented, but delicious. The guest of honor had the crab, bacon and shrimp beignets and thought it was the best meal we had on the trip. One of the girls had our heart set on breakfast, and although they were an hour past the brunch time, they accomodated her with a personal breakfast order that wasn't even on the menu! Keri, Chas and Omar were amazing!"

  • "This is the second time that we dined at Criollo and we were not disappointed. This place is delicious, the kitchen is open and you can see the chefs making your meal! This time around, I was disappointed at the fact that they didn't offer specials. Last year I had a veal chop that I still talk about! Definitely an upscale restaurant, I would stick with the classics (cesar salad, etc) and leave New Orleans fare (gumbo, grits, etc) for a neighborhood spot like New Orleans Grapevine. Love this place, they grill to perfection! Notable wine list with great prices on Wednesdays!"

  • "Great environment in the french quarter to have a nice meal . Had lunch there on Mardi Gras and realized quite a few of the crowd were locals. Great food and service"

  • "This is a restaurant with an interesting menu, full of good choices, which does not disappoint. Food is delicious, and the presentation is imaginative with great attention to detail. Service is attentive and engaging. Not your standard hotel fare. This restaurant stands on its own, and is a worthy choice on the New Orleans food scene."

  • "Highly recommend the avocado/crab meat app. Just the best."

  • "While staying at Hotel Monteleone, we decided to have breakfast at Criollo. The restaurant was beautiful, with large, cushiony leather chairs for diners. We chose the buffet and had plenty to choose from. I loved that beignets were a part of the buffet. Our server, Della, was sweet and attentive."

  • "My wife and I were celebrating our 20th anniversary and Valentines day with two of our friends. Service was excellent. The waitstaff personalized the experience by knowing our names and the special event. Two of us had the Pork Chop and the other had Red Snapper. The preparations were excellent."

  • "My wife and I have been for lunch at Criollo on three occasions. On each visit we were exceptionally pleased with the quality of the food, the varied selection, and the quality and friendliness of the service staff and management."

  • "Went to this restaurant because it was listed in Zagat as one of the ten best new restaurants in New Orleans. The setting is lovely and the room well appointed and quiet. The food is universally mediocre. Our waiter was only superficially informed about items on the menu and more the most part indifferent and absent throughout the meal. Overall a huge disappointment."

  • "In selecting Criollo Restaurant at the Hotel Monteleone (I was staying nearby and walkability was a key factor), I got much more that I bargained for. From start to finish we were delighted with the food, staff, ambience and service. We had FOIE GRAS DUO and the SHRIMP, BLUE CRAB & AVOCADO. The flavors of each were a delightful mélange that “massaged the palate” as my daughter commented. The excitement continued with a cup of gumbo featuring the perfect NOLA blend of flavors (just a kick of heat) in the soup. Next, PORCINI CRUSTED BEEF FILET, and SHELLFISH “COO-BE-YON”, Grilled Grouper, Gulf Coast Shrimp, Louisiana Blue Crab, Diver Scallops. General Manager David Marinaccio and Chef de Cuisine Joe Maynard. We will be back!"

  • "It was our first visit to Criollo. We were there for lunch. The food was very good. Stephen was an outstanding waiter. He was very professional, great sense of humor, made you feel comfortable and like family, explained the items on the menu -- outstanding! I will definitely visit again and will request Stephen. He is an absolute plus to Criollo!"

  • "We went for the British Invasion celebration on January 18. The dinner menu creatively used The Beatles song titles for its various offerings. I had Octupusses Garden, Strawberry Fields, and While My Grouper Gently Weeps. Each dish was excellent. It was kind of noisy, but there were a lot of people there for the event so that was to be expected. The Carousel Bar is one of the most fun places in New Orleans and it was packed for the show. Well worth the effort."
