Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant was very clean. The service was good and the food was excellent!! Will definitely go back when I return to the city. Very cozy. "

  • "At first when we walked in, we didn't know there was an upstairs seating area. We were seated up there near the bar and it was great. There was even a little outdoor balcony upstairs too. The service was great, helped us choose some drinks and put his input in for our food choices. The appetizers were amazing; some of the best grilled octopus I've had! Entrees were wonderful as well. Some of the reviews say that the food lacked flavor but this was not the case! My date and I both had very flavorful dishes (lobster curry - very spicy! and an Indian-inspired pink snapper). We were too full for dessert! I've definitely go back here again."

  • "When Crave first opened I was in the hood often and ate when it opened and several times after. Always good. This was the first real nice ay. Restaurant was packed. Sat my date and I early and we had a leisurely dinner that was just fantastic. Jasson, one of the owners was our server. Great. Let us sample wine before we picked bottle. Service great. Food great. Still top flight after aover a year in business. Only unfortunate part is it is a stretch of 22nd avenue that has a restaurant in every storefront. This place is really a stand alone."

  • "Our meal was a great surprise as well as this restaurant. I am glad I found it. The service was very good, really and I liked both waiters (there was a shift change?), and my flounder was perfectly cooked. I am originally from Louisiana and so I have definite opinions about seafood and most places in New York City are a disappointment, so take it as a confirmation that this restaurant is going in the right direction when I say I will go back."

  • "Great fun restaurant in Midtown. Food is fresh, beautifully prepared, creative, and delicious. Restaurant has a fun vibe. Staff is great and very accommodating. Highly recommended"

  • "I live in the neighborhood and have had several good dinners at Crave; I've even recommended to friends over the past few months. Unfortunately, the happy hour experience was a disappointment. I stopped in with three friends at 5:30 during the week for the oyster & wine happy hour. It was quiet, plenty of open tables. Once our server realized we weren't necessarily ordering dinner, he became VERY inattentive and honestly downright rude. It's not an inexpensive place; we sat for a little over an hour and our bill was $130, for happy hour. It was therefore shocking to be treated like a second class customer and I don't think I'll be back."

  • "Terrific food and wait staff. They need a pro managing the front desk. It's busy, and they can't handle the flow."

  • "Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere but was very disappointed that a Entree could not be served as a small plate. For a restaurant of the caliber and price point there should be some flexibility and willingness to please your clientele."

  • "Excellent food! Loved "Oyster Happy Hour"! Good, attentive service and nice decor. The only negative was the overwhelming noise! Could barely talk. But one cannot havse it all! REcommendation: specify " booth" seating when making reservation for more than two."

  • "I definitely loved the food and have every intention of going back. However, I am not likely to sit outside on the sidewalk. The tables were crammed and the noise level high. On the plus side, we got a surprise when the bottle of cava we purchased was half off due to happy hour. And the oysters are $1 ea during happy hour. Pleasantly shocked when the bill arrived."

  • "Read the reviews and wanted to try. Sat downstairs and was comfortable. The food --- fresh but no flavor. Mussels ( a special) were plump and fresh but had no flavor at all. The broth and vegetables were bland. The entrees were without any spice ( salt, pepper,, lemon, garlic -- simple stuff ).. Maybe Monday evening the real chefs were off. Would not recommend this place."

  • "Went here for dinner. I had the tuna tartare and the flounder entree. Both were very good. But the best part of the meal were the desserts. The chocolate chip cookie and the peanut butter cake were delicious. Service was friendly, attentive and relaxed. The place looked ok."

  • "Been at Crave Fishbar several times to take advantage of their happy hours oyster deal by the bar BUT dining in was a whole different experience - very attentive wait staff and enjoyed the food and not rushed were worth the $200 tab for 3!"

  • "2nd Avenue in the East 50s continues its culinary renaissance. A recent visit was a blast. Great fish and great service. The place is nothing to look at, and it's noisy and crowded, but that didn't get in the way of a fun time. It's probably to be expected widen a midtown hot spot hits its stride. Crave is definitely worth a return visit, especially for seafood fans."

  • "I absolutely love their happy hour deal where they offer oysters (from both the East Coast and West Coast) for just $1! You can also buy sparkling, red, or white wine at a low price (I think around $7) per glass. Crave Fishbar is normally quite pricey but the happy hour deal makes it worth going to. The lobster curry is good too, with a real kick and plenty of meat. I wonder if they would serve lobster in other ways, though... I prefer my lobster steamed."

  • "The exterior of Crave Fishbar gives no hint at the decadence within. The freshness of the ingredients and the unique and inventive combinations made for a memorable dining experience. The ceviche tostada and grilled octopus were crisp and clean dishes. The lobster curry was brimming with flavour and texture. The cocktail list was expansive and the service was prompt, friendly and understated. We will return."

  • "Crave was a great find and even more so for an after work spot in midtown, where I always struggle to find good options that aren't an upscale fine dining experience. Crave has a contemporary nautical feel and the food is amazing. Really fresh and well prepared. I'm still thinking about the Octopus appetizer. Will definitely be back."

  • "A friend and I dined here for the 3rd time at lunch this week. The service was impeccable and the draft beer cold and delicious. I chose the La Freida burger and loved every tasty bite! My friend had fried clams and the fish tacos and also enjoyed her choices! Our waiter was a delight - his enthusiasm for the food enhanced the experience. Cannot wait to return!"

  • "Great place to go on any night, great service and food. A range of gin for the pre-food drink, always a plus point. Food very good, not quite excellent, but quite close."

  • "I went for an early dinner with a friend and didn't know quite what to expect and was blown away by this restaurant. The bar was hopping due to the Happy Hour $1 oysters and discounted drinks but the 2 level restaurant was lively without being too loud. The ambiance is soft lighting and votive candles, not what you would expect from a place known for its raw bar. The food was outstanding. You must try the assortment of east coast oysters and the flounder was the best preparation I have ever had. Our waitress Paulina was knowledgable, friendly and very attentive. I can not say enough things positive about Crave. I will be returning with my colleagues for our team dinner as the long communal tables on the upstairs level would be perfect."

  • "There is nothing that isn't delicious here. Even if a description of a dish (or a cocktail) sounds odd, it turns out to be inspired and wonderful. Even the bread is heavenly. My husband is so in love with the lobster curry, he rarely orders anything else, but when he branches out, he is always happy with his dinner. Desserts lovely too. Everyone who works here is gracious -- the bartender was happy to approximate a drink no longer on the menu (seasonal) even though the ingredients were not available -- using meyer lemon juice and basil rather than thyme, it was delicious. The waitstaff lovely -- yay, James! Always a wonderful wonderful experience here. Not even one tiny criticism!"

  • "We ate upstairs which was rather quiet and tucked away. The food was good - not too fancy and something for everyone. Our waiter who was English was a bit opinionated though. He warned me that the curry was hot as if I was a 5-year or a yokel who had never eaten curry before. He almost put me off the dish. When it came it was perfectly fine and about as hot as any curry dish I've had. Wine was good and we had our teenagers with us; they were all happy with the choices for their picky palates."

  • "Went with the family. Waiter Michael was hilarious. Food was unbelievable. We sat upstairs - I think downstairs it would have been nicer ambiance-wise...some how the lighting upstairs threw me, but that's me...also we shared upstairs with a loud anniversary party...so, i have a feeling that were i sitting downstairs i would make this a 5 star across the board. aside from the shark platter (small raw mix up, clams, oyster, shrimp, crab meat), everything was absolutely worth it and delicious (shark platter was delicious too, just maybe not the best bang for the buck - from what i gather, if raw is what you're after happy hour is the way to go!) i had lobster curry. it was awesome. will go back any time i find myself in the neighborhood."

  • "The fish was very good and we ordered a variety to share. That said, the server was either impatient and resorted to eye-rolling and sighing or alternately enthusiatic. I would try Crave Fishbar again and hope for more consistent service."

  • "We were a group of girlfriends in NY for a weekend, and chose Crave Fishbar based on reviews via this site and others, and it's proximity to our hotel. We could not have been happier with our dinner and will be visiting again as soon as we can! We had a great waiter, who was personable, could answer every question we had about the menu and made some terrific recommendations. The seafood was fresh and outstandingly prepared. For appetizers: lamb ribs are amazing, the octopus is tender and the prawns were incredible. Tilefish was perfectly cooked, and the house made spaghetti - well, one of our party said it was the BEST meal she'd EVER had."

  • "This is the second time I've been to Crave and it keeps getting better. The bar drinks menu is really creative but not too crazy. Raw bar is always pleasing and continues to change. It integrates nicely with the full dinner menu through crudo apps. Big fan of this part of the menu. Main menu is solid and easy if you're not a seafood fan. Ribs app and Cavatelli entree are actually my favorites but I continue to steal some fish from my wife's plate since it's so fresh and well prepared. Big thumbs up. Would love to see another one of these dowtown so it's easy for me to get to from home."

  • "Loved this restaurant! Started out with bay scallops with fresh pomegranates and fresh shucked oysters. Main course was tilefish, which was unfamiliar but the server explained was similar to sea bass. It was an apt description and delicious. The other main course was curried lobster, which was reported to have a nice "kick" but not overly spicey. They have a unique list of cocktails and we each chose a spicey margarita. Mine was good but a little too much grapefruit. The other, contained tequila with homemade hot sauce and fresh lime. Wow!! So good. Service was attentive and knowledgable. Can't wait to go back!"
