The food and service was amazing, I would go back there in a heartbeat, but it is very pricey. For a hard working guy like me it is only worth it to go on special occasions. When they called to confirm our reservation they asked if it was a special occasion, so I told them yes. From the minute we walked in the door and all night afterwards every person who came to our table greeted her by name and wished her a happy birthday. The even had a special menu printed which she was able to keep. The food was phenomenal, as expected. The real treat, however was the great lengths they went to to make my sister!s night super special. There were no disappointing dishes on the 7-course tasting menu but that being said, I hesitate to put Craft in the upper echelon of my NYC dining experiences. Service was mildly amateurish at times (never poor, mind you, just not "$130-tasting-menu-style" IMHO) and none of the dishes blew me away. Each totally yummy in their own right, just no "Wow!" or surprises. Not that there's anything wrong with that & maybe that's the whole idea. Portions are well-sized for the price and quality - many top restaurants pride themselves on nouvelle-cuisine-sized portions - not this place. Excellent unobtrusive service, and flawless execution of all dishes, including handling special requests (birthdays). Their mixed roasted mushrooms side-dish is NOT to be missed. Focus on seasonal ingredients speaks for itself - high spicing/saucing should not be expected, in order to showcase the flavor of the ingredients themselves. Meal. Ever. If you ever get the opportunity, this is a must. Not only was the food divine but the service was unsurpassed. When they called to confirm our reservations, I mentioned we would be on our honeymoon. We were greeted with complimentary champagne and our menus were personalized as a souvenir. We also received two petite loaves of banana chocolate chip bread for breakfast. This place takes customer service to a whole new level. The food is amazing, the service is top notch, and the drink selection is respectable. So, it was first place in my mind when I wanted to take a girl for her birthday. She recently moved back to NY, and on the occasion of her birthday surprised her with a trip to Craft. The restaurant was creative, welcoming beyond all expectations, and an overall wonderful experience.
The waiter was superbly fluent in the menu and ingredients, and gave assertive, but thoughtful recommendations throughout the ordering process. The menu is diverse, and as many things as possible should be tried!

She's a big fan of Tom Colicchio so I figured she would get a kick out of it. The staff was very freindly and polite. They play a variety of music while dining. The food was great and they sent free samples of soups and desserts. Be prepared to spend some money though as everything is a la carte. The food was creative and absolutely delicious. We started with the agnolotti appetizer, oysters and the Foie Gras which were just out of this world.
My husband had the short ribs and I had the Wagyu beef and again both dishes were above and beyond. The server was very knowledgable and explained some of the more complex dishes very well.
On our departure, the hostess handed us each a chocolate chip scone to have with our morning coffee which was a great personal touch (and the scone was delicious the next morning!)
Although the meal was a bit more expensive than usual --- this was no usual meal! Well worth it. We chose the tasting menu and everything truly was exceptional. Our favorites included a farm egg served over fettuccine w/ fava beans and lemon; a succulent day boat scallop w/ Thumbelina carrot, sugar snap pea and tarragon; and rabbit loin w/ soppressata, swiss chard & faro. I chose the wine pairing as the kids are slightly under age and my spouse does not drink. Wines were perfectly paired with each course. The service matched the high quality of the food and we were checked upon routinely to see if our dining experience met our expectations. All expectations were exceeded ! We made a last minute reservation at craft for an early dinners memorial weekend. My husband started off with the pork ravioli appetizer and I had the wagu carpaccio. Mine was very good but his ravioli was out of this world! The sweet maple syrup with the warm savory pork was incredible! We then went on to the main course. I had the halibut with a side of mushrooms and my husband had the braised short ribs, again amazing! We finished off the night with desert. We had the sugar donuts with strawberry and chocolate dipping sauces, to say that was heaven is an understatement. I was so full but could not stop eating them. For the service, there was a moderate lag from when we sat down fto when the service staff arrived and again, until we got our drinks. After this, service was fine. My husband was a little less than thrilled with his pasta dish (fett w/ egg) but I had substituted mine out and found my selection delicious. Everything else was stellar and serving sizes were generous. After being greeted and congratulated at the door, we were guided to a comfy table in the corner for the two of us to enjoy. Everything from here on out was great. We were given the menu (which had a personalized Happy Birthday message at the top) and the wine and champagne list. They have a myriad of wines to choose from, and you see it right when you walk in. Their food was amazing and tasteful, and brought out on copper pots to extend the luxury even more. They also treated us to a few items on the house so we could try them. Just a slab of fish. Not a fingerling or bean in sight. You can order a vegetable dish for an additional $15. Feels like being nickled and dimed, which was disappointing in what I had expected would be a high class dining experience.
The music sounded like boring background Muzak.

The service was amazing. All I did was mention in our Open Table reservation that we were celebrating and the whole staff knew it. Every staff member wished up Happy Anniversary. It really made us feel special. Not to mention the complimentary sparkling wine and personalized menus!

With Tom Colicchio's reputation as a first class chef, we chose Craft. We were not disappointed! Excellent food - great service and many special touches for our anniversary, such as printing Happy Anniversary on our menu. They also provided a delicious complimentary glass of champagne. As I was thanking them for all these special touches, they told me that when someone chooses them for a special occasion, they are very honored and try to make it as special as possible. All the staff knew we were going to the theatre, (I never mentioned that, but maybe they supposed because our reservation was so early), but we felt like we were in good hands, and they were taking care of the details. Everything down to the shape of ice cubes is carefully considered. The staff was amazing, especially one adorable waiter that took time to speak with me. I also found other guests to be quite amicable - not sure if the restaurant tends to draw a certain crowd? The food was amazing. The fettuccini with farm egg was rich and delicious; I had to keep myself from eating the entire portion or I wouldn't have made it through my tasting menu. The short rob was also delicious. The only dish I probably wouldn't order again is the rabbit. It was tough to cut and chew. Started with the Crispy Bacon and Pickled Ramps which was a mistake. The flavor was excellent but the dish was not what I anticipated. Expected more ramps enhanced with bacon. The fat of the bacon was too heavy and affected the rest of the experience. Rabbit loin was excellent and the gnocchi probably the best I've ever had. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her short rib (though the bacon & ramp dish made it tough to get through) and her risotto was outstanding. The best she said she's ever had. The entire staff is amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, and so accommodating. This first rate hospitality is equally matched by the skill in the kitchen. Every single dish we had was outstanding. Besides laying claim to the best Pomme Puree in the world, the Rabbit, Chicken, and carrots were all absolutely delicious.
A manager was even kind enough to offer me a recipe card for the Pomme Puree. Everyone went above and beyond.
Craft is easily one of the top 5 restaurants in New York City. Great service from the moment we walked in. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating in all aspects. All of our dishes were fantastic (appetizers, entrees and sides) . The extra nice touches were the complimentary small appetizer and dessert dishes they provided as well as a very tasty banana chip loaf that they gave us as we left the restaurant. Very classy! One of the best things we found was that while the restaurant was full and vibrant, we were actually able to have a normal conversation with our friends due to the great sound acoustics in the restaurant. The ambience was wonderful--big tables and wonderfully decorated--very chic and elegant. I kept telling my dining companions that I never wanted to leave! The service was superb--we were waited on with care and attention but without being smothered. The food was delicious, simply but elegantly presented. The portions were just right. The amuse bouche was a tasty surprise, the bread was fabulous, and the main entrees were marvelous. I had the rabbit loin with fresh asparagus (I thank the waiter for his vegetables recommendation). The dessert was even better. Then as we left, we were given small loaves of banana bread with chocolate chips.
