Craft Los AngelesGreat service and foodWent to Craft to celebrate our anniversary. From the beginning to end the entire staff were very attentive without getting in the way. Our server was amazing. He listened to what we wanted and made excellent recommendations. He politely told us when we ordered something that would not work well with our meal and made a better recommendation. He ended up being perfectly correct. The food was very well prepared. Nothing fancy or cutting edge. Just good solid meals.

This isn't a place that wants to intimidate; they just want you to eat well and feel welcomed. We had octopus to start, braised short ribs, Berkshire pork, pea tendrils, roasted mushrooms. Service was attentive but not intrusive. The Sommelier was happy to decant a bottle we had brought from Austin. The portion sizes were just right for a multi-course meal, and everything we ordered was just done perfectly. The veal sweetbreads first course and the mixed mushroom sidedish were exceptional! I have lived in LA, NYC and traveled throughout Europe. The service was unparalleled as the staff was very attentive without being over the top. The food is outstanding and the atomsphere far more lovely than it appears in the pictures. As the restaurant filled with patrons I noticed they were careful not to seat tables next to eachother but space people out so we all had a sense of privacy.
From the moment we entered we were treated like royality. The Jidori Chicken was fabulous, the risotto sheer heaven and the desserts.....yes I will return and recommend this to everyone. It is not trendy or molecular; it is simply the best at taking the freshest ingredients and cooking them perfectly. In addition, the ambiance is warm and the service is unobtrusive but perfect. We showed up and grabbed a drink while they finished preparing our table. When we sat down, the menus were customized for me/us! The wait staff was super-accommodating regarding special requests. I was given a special glass/cup from the friends, and Craft made my alcoholic beverage in it! We ordered all the food, and our waiter was nice/wise/observant enough to let us know we had ordered WAY too much food.
The food was absolutely delicious. Great combos, excellent presentation. There really was not a single thing that was not outstanding. The staff was very nice and the service was superb! The place itself is gorgeously decorated and has pretty landscaping outside to create nice ambiance. The food was all great too-- my parents and I thought it was one of the best places we've ever eaten, and we've eaten at our fair share of nice restaurants! Our recent business dinner was exceptional: great service and fantastic food. The octopus and chickpea starter is sublime; the scallop entree is to die for, and as always the steak is some of the best in LA. Our business colleague is from New York and remarked that the service was that she would expect in the top Manhattan restaurants.
Also my birthday meal was secretly organised by my boyfriend with the Craft host. The extra detail added by the staff was lovely: personalised menus, which were presented to us as a keepsake,wonderful service, and a scrumptious birthday cake with compliments of the restaurant. The food, especially the pasta dishes, reminded us of dinner in Tuscany. Simple, yet delicious and heart-warming. But, the staff really make Craft stand out from all the rest. Everyone was so friendly, from the young lady who poured our first glass of champange, to the young man who cleared our plates. Jim, our server, was excellent! He was right on top of everything. Noone rushed us. We even had a chat with Stacey for about 20 minutes between courses and the night still flowed. We actually just about closed the place on a Wednesday night...

The wines didn't blow me away. I wanted the wine to enhance the food and vice versa. I didn't get that. Nothing peaked my interest. For the cheese course the wine was too sweet, too syrupy. Usually I would as for a list of the wines to take with me, this time I didn't bother. Other than that, the food was AMAZING!!! The service was some of the best I've ever had. The food was spectacular with every dish perfectly prepared. Appetizer standouts were the octopus, the pasta and greens, and the hearts of palm/avocado/blood orange salad. For mains, fish dishes were winners: salmon and artichoke with a simple, flavorful broth you'd want to drink: perfectly seared halibut, and jidori chicken. Short ribs was the only unimpressive dish. For sides, Yukon gold mashed potatoes melted in the mouth. And desserts were monstrous, especially the rhubarb tart and the doughnuts.
