We thought we'd give a new restaurant in Old City a try - what a mistake. Crab and Claw may be trying to be a step up from the college beer joint it was as Mad River, but it fails miserably. The atmosphere is barely a step up from Applebee's, the service was lousy, and the food just so-so. We almost left when the server came to take our drink order and tried to list all the wines they were out of...getting confused when it came to malbec and merlot - all she could say was that they had something that began with M! Definitely not returning and wouldn't advise anyone else to try it.

The food at Craft & Claw is incredibly fresh and very good. The staff was great. They were very attentive and friendly. The sliders and crab mac & cheese as appetizers were fantastic. I had the wedge salad, which was fresh and very generous just a bit too much lemon in the dressing. Our table had fish & chips, hamburger, crab legs and grilled salmon as entrees. Everything was fantastic with the exception of the salmon. The salmon, which was perfectly prepared, was served over warm potato salad. Once again, the chef over did the use of lemon. A little bit on the fish would have been fine but so much was used that you ended up with lemon flavored potatoes! It really ruined an otherwise great dish. Overall, it's a really nice place

I ate dinner here because I was interested in booking a private party and wanted to try the food and visit the space beforehand. I guess our 9:00 reservation was late because they were out of many of the menu items including the mussels, and Dungeness crabs. While the waitress was kind, the service was slow and the food was average. Furthermore, I spoke to Mike Donovan the same day I had dinner regarding planning my event and was supposed to receive a call back a few days ago, which never came. Overall, I'm not impressed with Craft & Claw and believe there are much better seafood places in terms of food and service in Philadelphia that I would recommend.

The restaurant was decent enough. It was very very quiet when we went on a Friday night but I could see that might be a fun bar scene when crowded. The crab bisque, sadly, tasted tinny, as if from a can. The crab sliders were light and fell apart too easily; I know that means there were not a lit if fillers but I personally prefer them a little crispier. These were too mushy. My son gave good marks to his Baltimore fried mozzarella and burger...but was that a fried egg on the latter? I'll need to check the menu online again to make sure it's noted that way. Overall, good service and a cute decor. It would be a fun place to stop in fir a drink after work but I'd choose to go elsewhere for dinner next time.

Searching for seafood in the city without astronomical center city prices. This Olde City gem has a small, yet attractive, menu of dinner choices. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was, for the most part well prepared. The "Baltimore style" mozzarella sticks were a delightful surprise to start the meal. Snow crab clusters were perfectly prepared - meat was sweet - not at all soggy or salty as they are found in many other establishments.

Industrial modern decor & decent crab. It was not worth the 30 minute walk from our hotel. Food was fine. Server was very awkward and not helpful, so we kept to traditional fare and didn't experiment. Beer menu was heavy on the pilsners, IPAs, and stouts, which are not my taste. No darks, ambers, goldens, or hefes - just 1 apricot ale & 1 white. Had to return my first beer, which the server did willingly.

  • Overpriced and underwhelming

I really, really had an underwhelming experience here. I made reservations thinking it was going to be a really great meal, and it ended up being overpriced fare that I could have had for half the price elsewhere. Two of my friends got the crabs & macaroni, which ended up really being spaghetti in a standard grocery store tomato sauce with hardly any crab or crab flavor. I got a salad that was really just lettuce drenched in way too much salad dressing, with an elote on the side that was also absolutely nothing special. Not to mention, when we first got there and the waitress asked us what we'd like to drink, she brought out two bottles of water that ended up being $7 each, without even mentioning that they had tap water available.

Really disappointed with this. I'm weary of seafood places where on a Wednesday at 8, there were only 4 tables. Apps and entree were brought out at the same time. Crabs weren't great.

This place is great. The decor really takes you off the Philly Sts. We got the all you can eat Crab deal on Mondays. It was excellent with 3 flavor choices, Old Bay, Ginger Broth, and Plain with Butter. They were all delicious and it was great to switch up flavor and style. Our waitress was great practically reading my mind when I needed another soda or a refill on the crabs, which came out practically instantly. You also get unlimited steak fries with old bay seasoning and house made ketchup, lots of tomato taste. They also have a ton of micro brews which would make this a great place to go out with guy friends.

All you can eat snow crab legs on Mondays is a great idea. I had an amazing time with my boyfriend. Our favorite style would definitely have to be the Baltimore buffalo style. The corn that came with the crab legs were one of the best combinations I have ever tasted. I will definitely be coming back for more!

Was surprised how dead the dining room was, but hopefully that is only because this is a new restaurant that some are afraid to try. Although had it been fully booked I could guess that it would be very loud and seem stuffy. As it's a very wide open floor plan on the main dining area. The menu is very reasonably priced for the seafood selections, and those items are very good. The beer list is good, and the service was attentive.

We did the All You can Eat Snow Crabs on Monday night- AMAZING. I can't believe for only $25 you can get all you can eat snow crabs. They were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. I had two orders but my boyfriend had 5,no questions asked. Here are my only complaints- We go to order beer and the waitress tells us they were out of 5 Beers-this place is called CRAFT and claw! Secondly it took 45 minutes for our first order of crabs- nonetheless after that they came pretty fast. They also did not come with any side orders like fries or corn that I heard they do- so I guess that was forgotten? The service was a bit choppy but I'm sure they'll work out the kinks as time goes on- great place I would highly recommend it and I'll return!

The 5 star points...nice space, low noise level and reasonable prices. Our waiter, Anthony, was one of the most pleasant and attentive servers I have had in Philadelphia! Unfortunately, the food was 3 stars in my book. We had Baltimore and Ginger style crabs. Sauce and crab taste was ok, but crab texture was mushy. We ordered artichoke app, but it was under cooked and we sent it back. Too bad, because that is unusual to see on menus. Anthony brought us some good biscuits to tide us over so we where happy. Considering C&C just opened it has a lot of promise.

My husband and i went here on date night. After walking through the plume of smoke at the front door from the smokers standing at the entrance, we entered the restaurant. our server came over in a reasonable amount of time but had zero personality. It felt like she was doing us a favor by being our server. We shared some apps and crab legs. The crab fingers were disappointing at best. The mac and cheese was good, but lacked the flavor of a key listed ingredient - bacon. We also had to ask for a spoon to serve it. Before we finished out appetizers they brought our crab legs which did not fit on the very narrow table. The crabs were cooked well, but were drowning in old bay! Overall, we won't go back.

Some of the menu is great - we really enjoyed the crab legs we ordered, and the drinks and beer selection were very good. The tables are too close together, however, and we were seated right next to the very packed bar, which made conversation difficult, as it was loud and fairly obnoxious -- the people standing at the bar and looming over our table had no regard for the people dining right next to them (I blame the restaurant for this). Our service was pretty poor. When asked the difference between the three types of crab offered, our server said, "These are the cheapest and these are the most expensive." I also found the service of crab very odd -- the tables are really nice, as are the seats, and the crab is pretty messy.

THe staff was friendly and efficient. The wait staff was friendly and professional. Our waiter came to check on us and something as simple as refilling glasses was done without a request being made. The food and drinks were great. The servings were perfect and the alcohol was reasonably priced. I left feeling satisfied and full. The atmosphere was awesome without a cheesey nautical feel. This was definitely the first of many more visits.
